WE’RE gonna win the league, aren’t we?
Here are the ratings:
Loris Karius: 6
Had, literally, nothing to do bar pick the ball out the net, so hard to judge.
Everyone seemed a little more relaxed, though, and he’s gorgeous.
Nathaniel Clyne: 7
Defended well and ran up and down the line exceptionally.
Possibly our best full-back in 20 years.
Joel Matip: 8
Smooth, just like the silk, soft and cuddly hug me up like a quilt, I’m a lyrical lover, no take me for no filth.
She call me Mr Joel Matip,
Say me fantastic, touch me on the back,
She says I’m Mr. Jo…
Matip, say me fantastic,
Touch me on the back, she says I’m Mr. Jo.
Ragnar Klavan: 6
Made a bollocks of a back pass, had little else to do. Steady Eddie, otherwise, and proving a most astute acquisition.
James Milner: 8
He probably won’t like it, but if he carries on he’s going to be a shoo-in for the next England left-back.
Jordan Henderson: 9
Another positive performance from the Liverpool captain. Had a chat with Gibbo after the game and he was saying that the ‘who should be Liverpool Captain’ chat has died down, which is possibly the biggest compliment you could pay him.
Gini Wijnaldum: 8
Got a bit of stick for his rating in his last game so watched intently today. The only thing I could say is that he reminded me of a Barcelona era Edgar Davids, picking and passing and picking and passing.
Soz everyone, you’re right and I was wrong.
Adam Lallana: 9
Ridiculous how much he’s come on, proved it again today. Looks like the boss has spotted his biggest strength is his awareness.
Great first goal, whether he meant it or not, his arl fella is adamant he did, saw it again and still not sure, but if he did assume that this is an 11 instead of nine.
Sadio Mane: 9
A constant threat. Must be absolutely terrifying to play against because he can operate in the smallest spaces.
What a signing.
Roberto Firmino: 8
Another one who looks like he’s showing more and more every week.
Strength, touch, awareness — hard not to be getting carried away. But was really, really good again today.
Philippe Coutinho: 9
Loathe to overdo Phil, because I think he could be better most of the time and gets frustrated too easily, but he was brilliant today. All the bonus points but got stuck in, made the right passes and was a level above anything Hull had to offer.
Could be a worldie, this lad.
SUBS
Daniel Sturridge (on for Lallana 69′): 7
Lovely feet to win the penalty. Obviously wanted to take it, but didn’t make a big deal of it. Bit quiet after that, but his mates had probably swerved it.
Marko Grujic (on for Henderson 74′): 5
Couldn’t quite get to grips with it, but will benefit from his first league run-out.
Emre Can (on for Coutinho 74′):
Fair play for coming on and just barging into people.
Funny how you give a young Grujic a score and Emre escapes.
Fantastic from the Reds today, end of.
New website is horrible by the way, if that has been your man’s full time aim you should’ve got a designer and a developer in.
Sorry, lads, as much as I enjoy TAW, this new website design is garbage.
Yeah, the new website design takes a lot more resources to load. There’s too much going on. Also a darker background is easier on the eye.
Amen about the website Jimmy, this site operates like old people fuck (sloppy, slow and not quite sure if you’ll make it to the end).
Nice Full Metal Jacket reference.
If youre going to do player ratings It’d be interesting if you guys would try and pick a MOM.
Personally I’ve struggled the last few weeks and often change my mind.
Love TAW also but I can’t believe this new website is viewed as an upgrade,
Much preferred the old site.
crashed my browser twice and required one restart just to read this.
I too am “not fond of” the new site. If it ain’t broke, why fix it??
Old site was perfect. Log in at the top, latest podcasts on the left, latest articles on the right. Job Done.
Sorry to be another who is not loving new Web design, esp on phone…
I bloody love Clyne, what a great player. Outstanding defensively, and good going forward.
Glad you saw the light with wijnaldum ;) I mean, to be fair, we’re 6 games into the season! Any overly negative or positive comments are premature, except with mane, who is clearly world class! :p
Phil still frustrates me a bit, but he can be a match winner for us.
LOVE lallana; what a great, late career, change of role. Battling centre mid all-rounder?! Taking over the midfield alongside another player who was playing as an attacking wide player last season! Who knew…
Got to agree, really gate this site
Got to agree, really hate the site
I used to run a website, majority used to complain whenever we changed it too, then got used to it and liked it, and complain again at the next upgrade. Comes with the territory, people don’t like change!
Agree with the rating, fantastic performance
What Nige said really, pretty new to the site and I’m not that bothered about the layout. Seems to work and the content, as ever, is king. Keep up the good work.
Ps
No rating for Emre but the young lad gets one despite coming on together?
Seriously this isn’t an improvement …… Was so simple before. Podcasts on one side articles on another ….. Click.
I know everybody moans when website changes but this isn’t a good one. Trust me I’m in the ‘online customer journey’ business ;)
Karius concedes his first shot on target…
No mention? The other lad got hammered.
Who designed this new website? Jim from Taxi? I’d be asking for your money back.
Site layouts fine lads. People will get used to it. If i had come to the site for the first time then this layout would be much easier to navigate than the last. Only thing id change is putting the articles under ‘features’. Its a bit of an unorthodox way of saying articles. Similarly, TAW player isnt clear unless you are a regular. Why not podcasts?
Did take ages to load though but always has for me.
Just thoughts anyways. You guys are boss. Sometimes i need to cut down on my footy intake because i hear children need time and affection etc and i have two of them..but i never cut out TAW.
cheers
Jesus Christ your CSS is appalling.
I genuinely hope he isn’t full time.
Lads, come on.
Give the guys a break, the website is a MASSIVE improvement to the older one. People moan when stuff changes. Embrace the improvement lads
My data has been destroyed trying to load anything on your site, please stop it, take it down until you have someone who knows what they are doing in charge of your content.
Stop cutting corners, stop buying WordPress themes and adding adverts into the template and taking us all for mugs.
It’s changed now lads, you’re not a group of mates in a room with a mic, you’re a business that owes your subscribers a product and you’re failing badly with this site.
Poor form.
No one is cutting any corners, ‘Jimmy’.
Coutinho motm for me. I’d have given the man a well deserved 10!
Re website: I think it’s miles ahead of its predecessor and has already improved since its initial go-live. If think the old one is better then you are quite clearly whiffing the glue. Well in TAW.
The site is much better on my phone than the old one in my opinion.
I’ve always liked Lallana & glad everyone else is getting on board. Wijnaldum gets better each game & it’s great that we’re massively weaker down the left hand side like last season. Firmino is more consistent too.
Above should say not weaker down left hand side. Doh!
Jesus! Reading these comments you wouldn’t know we’d just demolished Hull. I love the new site. Only downside is it’s been leading to me spending a lot more time than I want to reading back articles on here. With the search box one can easily access any month from any year and read the articles. There are some brilliant articles in the first few months of TAW which I’d recommend anyone having a look at.
Andy, I like these ratings. I read Neil’s report and Firmino got all the praise. Like the ratings, I’d put a fair few players ahead of him. I agree he’s becoming central to what we do though. Lallana was superb. In some ways I thought his MOM v Chelsea on the Pink was baffling. I suppose we all see it differently and my problem that day, perhaps, was I wanted people to recognise Henderson’s contribution more than Lallana’s. Probably a case of I thought he needed it more for his confidence. Today, I was shocked at how good Lallana was. Henderson, Coutinho, Mane and Milner impressed me too. Henderson does need to work on that shooting a bit, still. It’s not his main function though and what he was tasked with he was great.
I found it unbelievable how Hull couldn’t keep the ball. They were pressed and sometimes they managed to get the ball away to feet. Then another press and the odd time they got the next pass off but it couldn’t last. Each pass became more rushed, more panicked until eventually it got hoofed out of play. We’re like a pack of rabid dogs. It’s incredible how good we’ve become so quick.
I genuinely don’t get the Clyne stuff. Defended well? He had one piece of defending to do all day and he slept through it. He’s also no James Milner going forward.
Website not an upgrade for me.
These reds though – upgrades everywhere. Even the players who were here last year are upgrades on what they were. Lallana, Bobby F, Hendo …
Can’t help thinking of that scene from Jaws “you’re gonna need a bigger bus”
Another absolutely stunning game of football. Would have loved Karius to get a clean-sheet for his first prem league game, but we will take the 5-1!!!
The new site is miles better lads. I can find stuff now.
I dont give a shit about the website.
I love the content…
Keep it coming.
Well In Andy for joining the Wynaldum fan club….
He is very underrated…
It seems as though Mane,Phil,Bobby and Lallana really get each other’s games… It’s almost telepathic at times.
Joy to watch….
Jurgen Klopp is boss
Need to separate writing and podcast again. Job done, happy days.
Up the mighty reds!
For what its worth, I think the layout of the website is better, but the overall look isn’t. The background and header are particularly unsightly.
Anyone else really looking forward to some of the tastier matches on the horizon?
Looks like we can beat the rubbish teams, too, so I can’t wait to face Man United now.
Read it this morning. Got bloody Shaggy stuck in my head all day long…
Is this really his song? It should be!!
Spot on with the ratings, I just love how this is all about the team and not individuals anymore, gone are the days of relying on Stevie, Torres or Suarez, the sky is the limit now!
Can’t believe people are moaning about the new site? It’s great, what’s not to like? Anything for a moan I think..
Thought this was a footy website
Not my pics bigger than yours
Anyway witty and boss scoring happy days
loads more tens and elevens on the way I can feel a twelve coming for a few when we batter the mancs
Team upgraded…
Website upgraded…
Poole complaining about the team…upgrade your mindset.
People complaining about site…upgrade your handset
Need to upgrade my spell checker
People not Poole
Sorry to sound I’m in joining in hammering the website designer, but I too don’t like the redesign.
Much more complicated and the simple punchier format from before was just right. Also noticing the adverts added to the sight which is a shame.
Hope it for a switch back, but love your work, keep it going!
Bit harsh on big Klav: yes he did mess up the backpass but he was integral to our being able to pen Hull in – he was first to every header, tackle and interception, constantly getting in front of his man to get us moving again.
You’re dead right about Coutinho, mind. Could be a big season for him. Klopp won’t be afraid to drop him now if he plays as he did against Burnley again. It’ll do Phil good. He has to learn how to be more patient.
Great yesterday mind, but there’s more to come, and that will come with better decision making.
