Take an extra day and don`t do these pissed. Euphoria of result captured in podcast but not much in the way of coherent thought…Someone could also do to keep Mr Heaton in check a bit more, clearly he realises himself from time to time that that he should maybe give the rest a chance to say something without him talking over the top.
Anyway, for all the good work you`re doing with these podcasts maybe I am being overly picky.
Cheers!
Great show today. Heaton was on fire.
yeah, but Andy frackin Heaton is frackin crazee. Alwayz.
Man he can go on about Street Fighter though. I realise everyone was smashed but I still can’t believe how long that opening question went on for when we had just “hadokened” Spurs to smithereens ;) Go you Redmen!
(Don’t mean to sound harsh, love your work Andy!)
Listening to that made me glad i grew up a decade earlier.
maybe i am still basking in the warmth of a 5-0 win at WHL, maybe the christmas cheer has arrived but i Loved that episode almost as much as Flanno’s goal!
I’m in love with my football club, many people say that but i think i’m actually falling in love. That’s all.
Keep putting the best football pod on the web lads!
i guess that’s all.
At about 30 minutes into the game I had an epiphany. This IS turning into Suarez’s team. As Louis says there is only one captain — Gerrard (or more apty THE TEAM is the captain, for which Steve G. is a superlative lieutenant). But what they were yesterday for long stretches– and in glimpses in a few games prior — is a team of players taking on Suarez’s best qualities. Relentless, cocksure, wanting it more than you. You can see individuals and the team as a whole changing in a way that goes far beyond tactics and training. No doubts. No excuses. No quarter. They go top of the table on Saturday and don’t look back…
Great show.
I think TAW have the best formula of all podcasts. A lot of people like me look forward to the Monday podcast for the brilliant, thorough and calm analysis of the weekend game and our players. I get into the zone listening to it. Been looking forward to hearing this all day. Especially when i saw on Twitter it was an hour and a half. I’m slightly disappointed to be honest. I’m 35 mins in and I feel uptight. The usual brilliance is there underneath but there’s too many irrelevant and unrelated interjections. I keep slipping out the zone. I hope no-ones offended by that.
Funnily enough, I also got that feeling when Holtby got his yellow. Despite our dominance, the previous 10 mins prior to the red card had been quite tense. The next goal was gonna be crucial and in truth, either side could have got it. With the red i sighed relief but a few mins later when Holtby was booked along with his petulant reaction I just lit a cigar, sat back and admired the game. We’ve all experienced that feeling when we’ve thought ‘fuck it, we’ve completed lost it here’. It felt great to be us inflicting that on another team.
Sakho just fills me with confidence. I’ve been disillusioned with our centre halves for 18 months. This was the first game this season where i felt confident we’d defend corners and crosses etc. His presence felt massive in there.
I absolutely remember a debate on the podcast about 2 years ago when the point was made that with Gerrard being injured, Henderson had had his best game so far. How it felt like the shackles had come off. It was exactly the same yesterday. I just can’t wait for the City game to see how it pans out. I’m so intrigued by how Allen and Henderson will do. Even the Cardiff game will be interesting but City more so.
Despite being confident recently, I’ve felt we’ve had something missing. I didn’t feel like we had the team to go and win at City and Chelsea. I just pray yesterday wasn’t the result of Spurs being poor. I maintain that all these teams we keep making look poor is a result of what we’re doing to them in the first 20 mins. Let’s face it, it doesn’t matter how poor teams play they don’t attempt a pass and boot it into row Z of the stand. Spurs did it every 5 mins or so. I think it was a direct result of our pressing. There heads had gone.
Sakho made the back feel solid. We’ve all spoke about the midfield. Suarez and Coutinho are ok (though I agree I didn’t understand all the plaudits for him – he’s an excellent player but I was almost shocked when mates said how amazing he was). Others were so much more worthy of a mention.
Sterling really impressed me and has got me back tracking on my belief that he’ll never make it at Liverpool. He was strong in winning the ball. I’d like to see his final ball or pass improve but there was real reason for optimism in his performance. Alberto looks a slick little player. good vision and awareness. Like everyone, I loved Flanno’s goal. His reaction (and the teams reaction) made me well up a bit with happiness and the hairs on my arm stood up like when the Kop sing YNWA prior to a game. Great moment. The whole game was just pure indulgence.
As I’m aware my view is only ever based on the last game I’m not gonna rave about the team anymore but like I say, I can’t wait for City and Chelsea. I’m intrigued to know where we really are.
P.s Whilst writing this I’ve had the podcast on and it’s improved. We’re getting more detailed analysis. Nice one.
blows my mind how people want to judge Sterling at a few days past his 19th birthday (let alone previously), when he did a fine job when called on last year while he was still an insane 17.
What’s wrong with fans ffs.
It’s not hard to see why people would jump to that conclusion. It’s a big step up from kids football to the premier league. I’m sure people will worry about whether he’s physical enough. He looked strong on Sunday but I’ve seen him brushed off the ball with ease regularly. Whereas time will hopefully see him start making the correct decisions in games more, it won’t help his physique. Time will tell but it’s natural to have a hunch.
B******s to coherent thought. 5-0 away at Spurs …Xmas. ..slur and overtalk all you like guys
Fantastic! An attacking winger and experienced striker (I’d love Di Natale!) in January and any thing’s possible. Fuck it, any thing’s possible as things are. 2 days later and it still feels like a dream. Allen looks like the player everyone (Bellamy) said he was when he signed and Sakho looks a complete rock at the back, I still can’t believe none of Europe’s best (Barce) didn’t go for him!
Brendan’s got the players believing. Losing to Hull then going on to score 14 in 3 is a sign of the mental strength of the team. If the worst happens and we lose away to Chelsea and City, don’t anyone get carried away! They are the two best sides in the league, Arsenal’s early flourish and over reliance on an average centre forward is running out, so defeats to them shouldn’t be seen as a crashing back to earth. Imagine if we beat them both! Jesus, it could happen!
I’m still dreaming.
One of the great qualities about the wrap is that you encapsulate the madness of being Liverpool fans, when we play shit (think Hull) it is the end of the world, the pod is doom and gloom and then when it goes well you celebrate, the analysis is still boss but your either up or down depending on the result.
Sunday was different to anything on the pitch we have seen in years and the pod reflected this; Sunday felt like a St Etienne moment, the moment when everyone has belief in Brendon and the team, and it was a shock. All of a sudden players like Flanno have the confidence of Suarez and starts to play like him. For years the team was built around Gerrard and this was quite right but all of a sudden it feels like there has been a shift and we are now built around Suarez and his exuberance looks like it is spilling over to Henderson, Sterling, Flanagan and Allen (sic)
For years we sang about a team of carras and on Sunday it felt like we had a team full of Suarez and Suarez is the maddest footballer i have ever seen in a red shirt, The 3rd goal on Sunday took me back to the 81 and 84 cup final goals, when Phil Neal and Alan Kennedy just popped up and won the European Cup, you saw the goal, then you look at the scorer and you think, what are you doing there and how did you score that.
Finally from Henderson and Flanno you had fantastic goal celebrations where the whole team celebrated as one. On the back of this the Wrap was a bit mad but it was a mad game and so a mad pod and i really enjoyed it well done lads.
Haha the only thing Heaton loves more than 5-0 wins is interrupting Steve Graves!!
But seriously a great Podcast as always. You are all great at capturing the mood of the fans.
What a season its been all ready, cant wait for more!!
That’s was a funny podcast for the wrong reasons. Had it gone on for 15 minutes longer the guys would have been fighting! The booze was working its magic and making them argue about anything. It would have been hilarious viewing if it was done as a google hangout and watched live.
