I felt real bad long before the Man city fallout. Not with the Liverpool players but with Klopp following his pathetic reasoning which led to Liverpool fc becoming Santa Claus – dashing points to all comers in the EPL. I still believe that the moment he drafted Henderson and Fabinho to the defense was when the problem started. So baffling it was that after 3 matches and the results didn’t favor him he still continued until Man city came to town. Rhys and Neko would have done better in that defense while Henderson and Fabinho keeps things tight in the defense. WWhoever wants to blame the players may do so but it won’t change my view on why Liverpool fumbled.
There are a number of reasons for LFC current position, FSG knew last summer that a centre back was required at a minimum. Events between the the summer and the winter transfer window, we should have had a cb ready for the opening of the transefer window. From a business perspective, the cost of that decision may be calculated through failing to qualify for the Champions League next season. Given that these people are suppose to be business savvy, it is fair to say their hesitancy in the delay to sign cb’s may cost the club and fans dear, even if it the same players that were signed on the last day of the transfer window it would have made a difference in options available to Klopp.
The manager, i feel, should have used Nat Phillips more to get Henderson back into midfield to drive the players and the team forward. The midfield has badly been lacking in movement and creativity. I also feel that both Thiago and Curtis Jones both win the ball and play a safe pass. I believe both players, as good as they are, slow up the attacking formation of the team. The forwards seem to have lost intensity, both in attacking and defending game plan. All these points maybe a result of losing Van Djik not playing and organising the team from the back.
The substitutes although are good players are not going to improve the defence of the team (even defending from the front) so in my view we have a weakened bench.
Some players are returning from injury but the frequency of injuries of some players, as good as they are, have become a burden to the squad.
There is a need to have a good clearout of players and bring in players with better quality even if it means bringing in more Acadamy players to bolster ther squad.
