Get rid of Enrique? Really, Samantha?!!!
Yeah, that was odd. Haters gotta hate, I suppose.
Sounds like someone is fidgeting in bed through the first half of the football discussion.
I believe it was the dog
Getting rid of the whole defense is pretty negative… and I definitely have to disagree with getting rid of Enrique. I think he has been solid on the left side. He doesn’t let anything through and is a good outlet going up. As much as I love Coutinho, he isn’t that good helping Enrique out but he still doesn’t let anything through despite that. Johnson on the other hand does look quite shaky and I’m looking forward to Kelly coming back to give a bit more competition.
I really would like to see Agger and Skrtel play more regularly again. They haven’t been anything like they used to be but it might just be a bad slump. Skrtel has been a rock for the past couple season so to just talk about selling him is unfair in my opinion. Agger has also been weak but I think that is due to a weaker Lucas and Carra’s age.
At any rate a win is a win and I think Henderson deserves to be playing every week.
You can blame Lucas and Carra for Agger’s dip in form if you like but it seems a bit of a cop out. Mike Girling made the point on this podcast (and it was something I’d spotted myself) that Agger was man marking Weimann as a ball was about to be delivered in. When it arrived Agger was 3 yards away from Weimann but more worrying – was continuing to run in the opposite direction, leaving a free header. We’re seeing it more and more. How can other players be to blame when Agger is constantly losing his man and getting beaten to headers? It’s got nothing to do with his defensive partner or the holding midfielder it’s purely down to poor marking. We’ve also seen players dominate him in one on ones on the ground too. He just doesn’t seem to be fully focused. Absolutely no idea why that is but I’m looking to Agger for the answer and not players around him.
What’s with the deranged pen clicking throughout?
Heaton I think. :)
AAC audio again? The Anfield Wrap hates us :-(
Was someone colouring during this, on a blackboard?
Hi folks,
Quit complaining about the dog in the studio, the pen-clicking and podcast formats. These are irritants at best – not deal-breakers.
If you are not happy, tune-in (FOR FREE?) elsewhere.
TAW provide a twice-weekly service for FREE – it is generally very well planned, hotly debated and usually quite amusing.
For the TAW team – ignore the moaners – its easier to moan than to praise.
Keep it up – two highlights of my week.
D.
Apologies if this was picked up on in the podcast (only had chance to listen to the first 35 mins at present).
When I reflected on the Villa game my over riding feeling was a positive one. Yes, the first half was poor, Yes, we looked like we might concede anytime the ball came into our half, Yes, Villa are wank and we were lucky to still be in it at half time but I’m surprised nothing was mentioned at how well we controlled the game in the last 25 mins. We got the early goal and momentum completely swung but I think Villa only had one chance in the last 30 mins. For once, I just knew Villa wouldn’t score. We completely killed the game. I thought it was a professional performance. So recently we’ve been showing the character to come back from behind and now, for the first time, we didn’t panic and did what good teams do – killed the game. I think we saw it at home when we played Southampton but this was away from home.
P.s one final thing. Will there ever be a time when Liverpool win and it’s not because the opposition were so poor. Maybe we’re making them poor. QPR are poor but they beat us 3-2 there last season. This season we annihilated them. I think Fulham beat us home and away last season, Norwich got a point at Anfield, I think Wigan beat us at home and we’ve never been lucky against Sunderland. This season we’ve battered the bastards, like Utd do. Maybe it’s down to something we’ve done rather than how poor they are. Maybe we’ve made them poor. That’s the positive i’ll be taking from this season. We’re killing bottom half sides. That immediately makes watching Liverpool half less frustrating.
I thought at times on Sunday, our football actually looked good – almost as if we knew what we were doing, particularly the way we played out of danger from the back right into an attack.
If we can’t sell big Andy Carroll, bring him back and try and convert him to a CB. Was LFC’s best aerial defender last year, would be dangerous in the oppositions box at set pieces and would (for a CB) be decent on the deck.
Bob Paisley moved Ray Kennedy as an attacker to a midfielder to create a legend, Blackburn regularly used Chris Sutton as a CB in their Championship winning side and I believe Dion Dublin was converted by Utd.
Surely it’s worth trying if we can’t sell Andy for good money.
The Villa game was all about Gerrard.I thought he looked a bit leggy for the 1st 20-25 minutes. After that I realised that it would be Gerrard who would win the game.
Like a fox he watched what they were doing and their formation. Then he began to ping balls into every area where they were weak.We could have had 5 or 6 goals there.
The rest of it? Well we continue to play in some kind of rigid predictable formation on the rest of the pitch:the defence in particular.
We invite chances rather than the opposition creating them. It’s just like line dancing!Everybody knows which step to make and everbody else knows which step they’re going to make!
Sorry!I’m sure Brendan will work it out someday soon!
Haha Brian. Do I sense a touch of positivity in your comment? Brendan too!! It’s usually Rodgers. You’ll be calling him ‘King Brenny’ next. Great analogy of the line dancing. Maybe Rodgers has got them line dancing after the yoga session.
Sorry Robin,You’re going to be a bit dismayed. It was a bit tongue in cheek! “Brendan might get it right someday?” I won’t be holding my breath.
The game was about Gerrard doing what Gerrard does.I don’t think that “Brendan”has much of a clue about that.
But we battle on in the face of everything else. And I just live in hope that I’m totally wrong and I’ll be the first to hold my hands up when he turns out to be another Shankly Paisley or Dalglish!
Haha, that’s more like the Brian we know and love.
Thanks Robin,
You know your optimism is beginning to rub off on me.
Only a little bit though…….about this much “.”!
I’ll keep trying!
Kima Greggs from the Wire is clearly the best female detective! You guys are killing me.
