Liverpool went to Stamford Bridge and found themselves behind at half time and never managed to recover. This puts their season under additional pressure in terms of Champions League Qualification for next season’s campaign.
Sadio Mane performed well early before Liverpool had a poor 15 minutes and were punished.
Liverpool failed to get going in the second half and didn’t put enough pressure on the Chelsea goal.
Working through all of this are Paul Cope and Paul Senior, hosted by Neil Atkinson.
Lads. I get it. Trying to lift spirits and all of that. But way too much spin. We can’t doscuss everything in context of ‘we’re in the CL final so ……’
Paul Senior was on brink of describing what actually happened today …… then pulled it.
That was shite. Salah drop off VERY worrying. Bobby looks on empty and out counter attack which was almost done at will now looks leggy , over thought and fairly average.
Paul C. must think we’re all stupid today. Sharpen this up lads.
*bravado obviously
Wow, lads … a LOT of nonsense today.
This repeated “If you’d offered me that at the start of the season” line … is the biggest excuse buffer I’ve ever heard. It’s not the start of the season … it’s NOW, and our form and standards have fallen off a cliff …
WBA, STOKE, Chavs, Bitters, … all BANG average sides … who apparently all hold the key to stopping us playing … which alongside the fact that apparently we can only cope with ONE competition at this stage … means it’s ok to be crap.
I have no doubt if we fail again NEXT weekend TAW will still find a way to basically say it doesn’t matter …
LOVE you guys, but please keep it real and tell it like it is … Leave the feeble excuses for the Bitters and the rest.
Hi Lads, all good thoughts, over all consensus. its been a long 15 days for they players. there was a time we were shite and loosing 1 nil to them and I hate saying it we weren’t going to a big final. I thought we played lots of football in and around them. they got the goal from big oliver but if there is a warning sign v madrid In the final is the marking of madrid and picking up the Ronaldo. why is lovern getting frozen out for the goals on high balls. the guy can jump we all know that. all our lads are brilliant.
The spin on the show today is outrageous…. wow!!!!
Can’t agree with most of what has been posted here. Not because I saw a different game, since it’s true that the game looked done to me as soon as they scored. It’s the idea that fans have a duty to call a performance ‘shit’, to talk about ‘failing’ when the players in question have quite obviously given everything they’ve got left. I didn’t hear anyone raving about the way we played on that show, or trying to kid you that it would be enough to beat Real Madrid.
A couple of them only ever post to moan. Who’s surprised?
I’ve listened to TAW from the moment it became a subscription podcast and have been nothing but positive about the quality of the content. As a CUSTOMER (yes that’s what I am when I pay money) I’m perfectly legitimised to provide feedback that is negative and that’s what I did. I appreciate there is challenge to extract constructive feedback amongst the trolls but frankly I see very little trolling on this site (and let’s be glad of that). But seriously if your only argument is ‘some people just like whining and we all need to get behind the lads’ either you live in world that believes the team reads any of this shit and if they do might somehow be affected by it or you want TAW to be some sort of Reds propaganda site then crack on; I don’t. Some of the content provided is borderline magnificent but this Post Match was l8me some sort of Scientology experiment
I want to applaud they Guys for their positivity, it would have been easy to have become negative about the result. The reality is we played a (relatively) in form, full strength Chelsea, with an uninspiring midfield of TAA, (a tired looking) Milner and Wijnaldum! That after a physically and mentally exhausting CL semi a few days before. We have played above ourselves on a number of occasions this season … and no doubt will again in a few weeks, but in the league, we are who we are and suffer from our lack of a couple of key personnel and a lack of depth. If we make CL (and we should by beating Brighton) then it will have been a magnificent season in its context. If we repeat the City performance against RM – and they allow us to play … then who knows what history will be written.
Not 3 weeks ago some on the post match show were proclaiming this Liverpool team to be the best team in the world.
Sure.
“If you’d offered me one must-win game to finish top four and a Champions League final at the beginning of the season, I’d have snapped your hand off.”
What about a month ago when we had one foot in the semi-final and needed one win to secure a top four finish? If I’d offered you Liverpool to progress through the Semi-final (which everyone was confident would happen) and we’d fuck up the next three games needing a win from the final game of the season, or beat Real Madrid in the UCL final, to ensure Champions League football next season? What about last weekend, if I’d offered you a win to guarantee third place and a Champions League final, what then?
At the beginning of the season we all had very, very different expectations of what this team would go on to achieve. Just because none of us thought we’d overachieve on them to the extent we have, doesn’t mean we should be either content or blasie about needing a win on the final day. Will we win it? Probably, but that doesn’t excuse the cock ups over the last month.
