This is the Review.
But it is also the Preview. How could it not be?
With Anfield’s biggest cup game in ten years on the horizon, our Review show takes into account that prospect when taking a long look at what happened to The Reds when they went to Crystal Palace. Liverpool found a way against Palace but they didn’t shine and they demonstrated some weaknesses as well while falling short in the first half. Liverpool’s zonal defending gets a long examination, especially in the light of Dejan Lovren’s interview with Jonathan Northcroft in The Times. Jurgen Klopp himself had a good hour if half time and the second half are combined and Liverpool managed to secure the points.
Working through all that are Sean Rogers and Ben Johnson, hosted by Neil Atkinson. The three also look ahead to Manchester City and discuss whether or not either side may well compromise in this first leg. What can we expect from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City? What should Klopp look to change – if anything – to counter the threat they pose? How will the game play out? There’s a discussion of that prospect, of the Liverpool manager giving Emre Can every chance, of what damage City’s diagonals could do to Liverpool. The game dominates the round and dominates our thoughts and is ever present through this Review.
The show closes with Jamie Carragher talking about the impact of playing in massive European games with John Gibbons.
It’s everything you need to end the conversation around Palace and to build up for Liverpool being at the business end of the biggest competition in World Club Football. It is happening before our very eyes this evening.
