WE’RE delighted to announce that at 10.30pm last night we smashed the million download mark – less than a year after the first episode of TAW was recorded.
It’s been a mad 11 months since we launched – the podcast has been a regular in the higher reaches of the iTunes charts, we’ve had some top-notch writing on the site and we’ve been honoured to have some very special guests on the show.
We’ve also won a couple of awards: The People’s Choice trophy at the 2011 NOPA blogging and podcasting awards and Best EPL Club Podcast award from popular American website, EPL Talk, and fingers crossed we’ll win a couple more at The Football Supporters’ Federation’s Writers Awards this weekend – we’re up for best podcast and best football website.
Everyone involved from our host Neil Atkinson to all the lads behind the scenes, to everyone who’s ever written anything for the site, appeared on the show or simply offered some advice, deserves a huge pat the back for all this – nice one and long may it continue.
We”re proud that we’ve reached this milestone in just 49 episodes of the Monday podcast, and proud also of course that we’ve now got a two-hour show on CityTalk 105.9FM on Thursdays.
The podcast has been downloaded in 167 countries, with over 400,000 of the million downloads coming from outside the UK.
We’re staggered by how popular it’s proved to be. Thanks for listening, downloading and reading and keep your eyes peeled for some exciting plans we’ve got in the pipeline.

Congratulations lads. Keep up the good work.
Congratulations guys (& gals).
Well deserved. Great site and great podcast.
Meh
I’m quite positive that I was the millionth person to download as that was the time I downloaded last night! Oh my!
Great show boys. Thoroughly enjoy it.
Keep it going lads, love your work.
Boys, you should concider recording a video podcast some day for a change, just for us to see your mugs :) The last one was very funny, and I was trying badly to put a face to a voice of the lad who had that strongest scouse accent I’ve ever heard. I so love listening to you all that, as a non-native English speaker, I now understand (and like!) scouse better than any other dialect spoken in the UK.
But seriously, great work, always enjoyable, it’s like being in a company of like-minded people and sometimes, when things were not going too well, you’d offer some interesting cut on a situation, some insight, some light in the end of a tunnel. Always humorous, always sharp. Keep it going, and congrats!
It’s a great show, intelligent discussion, with a lot of humour, from people who go to the game every week, so there is more of the first person perspective which is always far better than watching it on telly.
The last show was the only i have not really enjoyed, to much talking over one another. Maybe you should do a seperate podcast for music only, just general music as well as the local Liverpool scene? But overall keep it up, maybe Neil will read my question out soon he said he would do weeks ago!
I think you’ve got ahead of yourself somewhat. I know for a fact I download both shows on itunes and on my android. I dont think you can count 50 odd. Sorry guys.
Great site, great pod, i started listening from pod #3 (i later listened to pod #1 & #2) and what is great about all the regular contributors is that their opinions are so consistent, you listen to the early pods and the concerns abouts the new players comming in were still there half way through the season and in some cases at the end. There is no ‘sky hype or lazy BBC punditory.’ The Suarez debates took the pod to a higher level and exposed the hypocrisy of the broad sheets never mind the red tops, whilst at the same time rightly critising the clubs poor handling of the affair.
However, enough of the quality stuff, any pod that regularly broadcasts the words ‘the Hodge’, ‘Winter’ and ‘cunt / twat/ bellend’ in the same sentence should be awarded the Nobel prise for ‘being fucking boss’.
Keep it going lads, well done
“Any spares?” made me laugh and also made me remember buying a ticket for face value off a guy at 7.29pm on the night Arsenal won the league in 1989. I was bombing round the ground shouting aforementioned “any spares?” when this very polte man tapped me on the shoulder and told me that indeed he had a spare ticket. He passed me a season ticket book with all the vouchers still in the book – a genuine unused season ticket. When I took my seat in the Kemlyn Road stand (2 mins after kick off) all the people around me demanded to know why I had not been to a match all season, what kind of fucking glory hunter did I think I was etc etc. I had no answers then, and I certainly don’t now. Very curious.
Great story Sean! What a mystery
Well done lads On 1 million the show is quality as a ex kopite now living in aus it is so refreshing to listen to every week keep it up boys
