As Premier League clubs spent a record-breaking £1.4billion in the summer transfer window, at the bottom of the football pyramid teams continue to struggle to make ends meet.
With ever-rising fees and facilities becoming increasingly rundown, the Save Grassroots Football campaign has launched a fresh petition in an attempt to persuade the government to impose a five per cent levy on the Premier League’s broadcasting rights, with the money being reinvested into the grassroots game.
Joining Josh Sexton and Simon Hughes to discuss the issues is Kenny Saunders, founder of the campaign, who highlights the intentions behind the latest petition and the next steps for the initiative.

Direct – TAW Special: Save Grassroots Football
Brilliant podcast. These hubs they’re promoting are great in theory, but in reality they won’t do the job that’s needed. So there’s 3 artificial pitches let’s say and they are to cater for how many clubs in the local area?? Well my club have 12 teams that will all want to use them, other local clubs have on average 10 teams per club, they all want to use them. I hope these pitches are gonna be open 24hrs cos my U9’s will be training on the last available slot on Thursdays 03.30 – 04.30!!!!! And cost???? They never give details on costings, they use words like competitive, well competitive with who, we already can’t afford renting 3G pitches that are in the area, so if that’s ur bench mark then our club and the others round us won’t be using the facility that’s being supposedly built for us. And the next stage will be the Councils taking away the local park pitches cos it’s too expensive to maintain them and the shiny new FA hub is down the road so just use that!!
