Neil Atkinson is joined by Dan Fieldsend, author of The European Game, John Milburn and Adam Melia to discuss the situation Liverpool find themselves in with five days to go until the season begins.
The manager is making noises as though he is happy with his squad as it is, how does everyone feel about that after a summer hoping to see The Reds kick on? Should Liverpool be looking to compromise at this stage? Will Jurgen Klopp do that?
Everything is within. Everything…

Klopp is dead wrong when he says there are only so many people who will improve this first team. that is a bold potentially arrogant statement, but here is why I think it is also correct:
There is more than one way to improve a first 11. Sure, there are only so many who can replace a member of the first team. but there is another way to improve a first 11 without replacement. REST.
Our team last year was the best starting 11 in the league.
Our starting 11 was UNDEFEATED against the top 6 other teams in the league. They often humbled and humiliated the ‘best’ teams in England. So why did we not win the league? NO REST. You improve a starting 11 by not wasting their legs against lesser teams, 3 games in 7 days, coming back from injury too soon.
There are TONS of players in the world that we could get that could stand in for Lallana/Coutino/Henderson, etc when playing away at lesser sides.
As evidence, look at how the team did at the end of the season. We didn’t have our starting 11 then and yet we were able to go and win key games. So it IS possible.
I was not convinced at the beginning of the summer that the likes of Mbappe/Keita/VVD etc were really what we needed. Though they would have been awesome. We needed the reliable guys to give the first 11 a rest.
This year we will have a smaller squad than last year. … And more games.
Oh yeah.. I said REST as if it was the only thing.. let me add in to that – injury replacement, Africa Cup replacement.. but in all cases it is need for players outside the first 11.
Klopp said he was happy with his defence and midfield or words to thay effect… VVD has since made his move and awaits Liverpool approach… now with Lanllana injured… will we see the interest in the ox surface… or will it be nabby… who red bull now know they are going to loose.. .oh i think phil will stay fof one more year
I don,t think that you will ever get compromise with a man like Klopp, and I agree with Colin he is arrogant and personally I think that is were he will come unstuck. He was the one who wanted naby Keita and van dyjk. The fans were just pleased at his choices. Now that we want van dyjk he professes that we don,t need him, which is ludicrous. Every pundit, ex player and fan can see that we need van dyjk. So what’s his reason, well he hasn’t,t trained him for twelve month like our players and that is the problem. Also we know fsg are tight with money for players. We never go for the top players like the other top teams. It’s mostly the bargains klopps interested in. When we didn’t,t get Keita why didn’t,t we go for someone who could compare to him. Well I hope that I,m wrong but I will be amazed if we buy van dyjk.!
Klopp out?
Our fans have been an absolute embarrassment over the past month. Turning on our manager before the season has even started. TAW are not blameless in this either. The relentless, daily focus in transfer news/speculation/drivel is stoking bullshit like the other comments here. Give it a rest for Christ’s sake. We have a brilliant manager and a good enough squad for that manager.
