It’s an Anfield Wrap special on transfers this week, and on it we’ve got four people who are close to the process to tell us what they’re all about.
- What are the common misconceptions about transfers?
- Why can it take so long?
- Are agents mad and is it all a bit ‘wild west’?
Paul Joyce, The Times’ Merseyside football reporter; Neil Sang, a football agent; Stephen Warnock, offering a player’s perspective; and Oliver Hunt, a sports lawyer from Onside Law; tell us about their experiences of transfers in this extended episode of TAW.

Is it just me or was Paul Joyce a hard listen. Seemed to struggle to explain a job he’s been doing for 20 years!
Just mindful of not saying the wrong thing, I think. Which when you’ve spent a long time building up contacts is absolutely fair enough. We were glad to have him on. It’s good that people will give up their time to do our shows.
I thought that was really good. Thanks!
In the final reckoning I think Paul Joyce was given his own time to lay down a background for the following 2 interviews. Deserved a bit of reading between the lines of what he was saying. Any other team’s podcasters putting out magazine articles like this ? Nah, thought not! Always good to know a lawyer when casting in the UK I believe. Tough rules if you get it wrong.
Good show boys, but have to agree it was a struggle listening to Paul Joyce, didn’t give much away, thought he might have given a bit more of an insight into what happens.
I thought the lawyer would be the least interesting section. Got that wrong!
Really enjoyed that, it was great to get some genuine insight into something we all follow twice a year but don’t fully understand. Superb idea to get four angles on how the transfer marker works. The guarded input from Paul Joyce and the honesty (realism) of Neil Sang made for especially good listening. This sort of feature really highlights the variety TAW offers. Deffo a ten out of ten. Cheers lads……
That was a very good listen and well done to all for making it happen. There should be a massive banner headline with the words “compulsory listen and pass it on”. If it reduces some of the fewm/shite we have to put up with, then job done.
