COLD light of day and that, but fuck that…
Simon Mignolet: 3 (1st half) 7 (second half)
Bread, milk, some 60 per cent cocoa Lindt, some soft por… ‘ang on a sec… shite.
Lashed his shopping list in the bin for penno, which was nice of him.
Overall? Looked like a touch of anxiety was creeping back in.
Nathaniel Clyne: 7
Better second half, took a while but slowly got the better of his opposite number and eventually dominated him.
Dejan Lovren: 6
Alright, but nearly, nearly undone it all for the penalty incident.
Joel Matip: 5
Ropey, passing off, and the Cheech to Lovren’s Chong for the penalty, way off his benchmark.
James Milner: 6
Hugely misses someone on the overlap.
Steady as ever and experience and calm head vital to getting us back in it, but performs much better with movement ahead of him.
Emre Can: 6
Won LOADS of important headers, even went up for a ghost one late on, but struggles in tight situations, better than of late but maybe not good enough.
Jordan Henderson: 8
Captain’s performance. Load of variety and looks to have the mental freedom of someone not with an injury in the back of their mind.
Grew into it loads.
Georginio Wijnaldum: 7
DER DER DER DER DER DER GINI WIJNALDUM!
See what I said the other day about playing to the level of those around him?
Adam Lallana: 7
Good quality but still lacking that pre-injury spark, intelligence to how we played tonight, even if he did give the free-kick that lead to their goal away.
Roberto Firmino: 7
If he scores the two that he should he’s on a 10.
Constant touch and assuredness under pressure a consistent relief for the boys in red, but should at l say leave the pitch with one chalked against him.
Philippe Coutinho: 7
Feeling his way back in, better every week, needs to regain his natural rhythm, seems to simultaneously be trying to find his touch but scaring the life out of opposition, such is his quality.
SUBS
Sadio Mane: 6
Rusty and jet-lagged, but by god it’s good to see him back in a red shirt.
Divock Origi: N/A

More like it.
Agree with everyone of em except Firmino. Not sure which “Constant touch and assuredness under pressure” you are talking about. His touch was awful tonight. So was his passing and his shooting. Worst player on the pitch by a country mile, although Matip was making an effort to join him.
Hard to enjoy the game. Spent 75 minutes convinced we were getting our just deserts for bad passing and slow buildup. Disliking the Coutinho for Mane sub and Can taking Lalana’s place in midfield. Got the draw. Looking forward to the pink. Funny that our goal comes from one touch passing and pace, getting the ball back quick. Looked at February from cutters to January. We played 9 games in January and we have 3 in February. Mental. Just mental. If we hadn’t been in the cups were would have had nearly a fortnight off before the Man U game. With our squad and hindsight, would have been happy with that.
Firmino missed 2 golden opportunities. Have seen him missing similar many times.
I love him but I’m really starting to think we need a 20+ goals a season striker who’ll put them away. Someone who can finish and has pace.
Perhaps move Firmino back as a second striker/ no10.
Not sure what that would mean for Lallana tho.
Harsh. Did you see his two goals against Swansea?
I did but you can’t describe him as a top notch finisher.
I’ve seen him miss too many easy chances.
We had/have a 20 goal striker his name is Daniel Sturridge…
Sturridge has only ever hit 20 goals a season once………in 13/14.
He’s never came close before or since.
After his last few months of last season I had high hopes for him this season.
Unfortunately he’s been consistently poor this season.
Agree with this.. I love watching Bobby play but the chance he missed last night was bad (not the header). In the funny world of rating players there is no way a striker should get a 7 having failed to take those chances.
Much much better. Fantastic work rate considering the amount of games we’ve played.
Shame the Mane option wasn’t really a goer. Probably needs a week off.
But Lovern. Sometimes he’s completely brainless, pissing about with the ball when it’s completely unnecessary (and inappropriate) to do so. I think Mingo was distracted by Lovern & Can clowning around just before the free kick.
Massive game on Saturday, then hopefully we can get back to full fitness.
Why did we not buy a striker.
Henderson a 9 for me for tireless work, the ball for the goal and the goal-saving challenge on Pedro.
We definitely need a Kante type to cover for him next season or play in beside him to free him up.
(Funny how Chelsea have ended up with Conte, Kante and …er ,JohnTerry.)
Lucas , Can and Sturridge can be upgraded on in the Summer.Cover for Mane and a right back and centre back too please.
Ron I’m completely with ya on that.
Bring in a proper defensive midfielder and move Hendo forward.
Kondogbia?
Building blocks: Klopp has had one proper transfer windows and added Matip and Mane to the squad Brendon left. We are boss against the top 6 and two pacy wide players of the quality of Mane and this team goes to the next level
Everyone in that wall deserves -100. If you are not even going to jump then what are you doing there?
Very harsh on Matip that. Penalty aside where he was hopelessly exposed by Lovren I thought he had Costa in his pocket all day. I also think he helps to set the tempo when we have the ball as he is always looking to get incisive passes into feet.
Matip had his worst game for us so far. Gave the ball away at least 5 times – twice on dangerous positions.
Nowhere near the high standards he has set . Looked knackered too
I have to say i disagree. i thought it was Matip’s worst performance. His composure was completely lacking, he gave the ball a way on numerous occasions and he gave away the penalty. i thought he was wrong to let Costa get into the box so easily.
That said, he is still class and that although he has made one or two isolated errors his performances have on the whole been excellent and someone i am happy to build the defence around.
Lovren on the other hand, i am not so sure about long term. I thought he was excellent against man u. Very powerful and dominant and he is often an 8 out of 10 performer, but he just throws in too many 4-6 out of 10 games and is still prone to losing his head which you cant do as a centre back.
I have to say that i put the blame for the indecision and tomfoolery at the back last night squarely at the defenders midfielders and have a lot of sympathy for the Mig. On a number of occasions he waved them forwards and they didn’t seem to heed his advice, confusing the matter. Mig was clearly at fault for switching off for the goal, and while that is hardly excusable i have to say that for me, the Mig has been first class since he has come back in. Credit where credit is due but he has made several world class saves and he deserves a lot of credit for that.
.
I’ve been going to the match for 50 years and never seen a shambles like their goal. Great come back and proud of the guts the lads showed. More of this and we’ll be all right.
I thought we had to battle ourselves as well as Chelsea tonight. Our passing was off at times, the longer the game wore on second half the more likely we were gonna gift them a goal through under/over hit passes. I really hope Klopp and Co sit down and examine this one frame by frame. I ain’t gonna name them but 2 players in particular, time and again, played us into trouble. Is it a lack of composure ?
That said they all battled and gave everything to a man and despite (a lot of) dodgy moments they never stopped trying. Kudos to whomever decided to push Can forward and use his heading ability as well as the collective intelligence to attack the “Delle Alli” channel, around Victor Moses, in the second half. Nice one. I think we deserved a point and could have had 3 … or none.
I agree mate. our passing was really off tonight and i think it is a long term problem that needs fixed. The midfield 3 of hendo, Gini and Can/lallana just doesnt have enough range, vision or quality in the pass. All of them have bring other things to the table, but i feel like we have to bring in one midfielder with better touch, passing range and dead ball ability. The way we play, whereby the full back are often in loads of space, it seems like such a waste not having someone who can ping passes into them on a sixpence a la stevie g or david luiz (or Jonjo Shelvey;)), but also someone with more confidence playing balls forward along the ground onto forward runs. While we clicked in the October to December months, it was very high risk one touch flicks and lay offs and while amazing when it works, you have to feel that type of breathless football is always going to be hard to maintain over a season.
Ideally we also need the incoming midfielder to be a massive upgrade on our dead ball ability. Not so much direct free kicks, i’m happy with Phil for that, but i cant go through another season of Milner’s free kicks and corners – just not good enough.
Decent performance and much improved on recent weeks. Need a killer instinct to win these games and take the next step – was same against Utd st OT and others when we should have killed off games – can’t seem to convert chances that allow us to control games (FSG need to stump up in the summer to address).
As such always feel like we play on the edge….can go from amazing to ragged in a heartbeat. JK needs to work on that.
Another season gone. Lads need to go game by game now and build up for next season.
Thought the ref was fucking shite. Hazard is a diving prick (why refs cannot see that is unreal). Cyclical bastards Chelsea. We’re too nice us. We need a nasty bastard like Souness.
Solid base for next season…
Costa bought the penalty. Never ceases to amaze me how the so called experts on BT and MOTD watch a slow motion, see a bit of contact and conclude it was a definite penalty. Try watching it at full speed. He took the minimal contact and swan dived for the penalty.
Mate its a penalty all day long
The Ming wasn’t set but even if he had been, there is no chance he is getting right across his goal to pull that out off the post. The fault lays more with the wall not concentrating.
My take exactly. The wall saw it coming but, caught off guard, didn’t jump. There’s a look of disbelief on Henderson’s face as Dave smashes it right at him, just over him, and off the post into the net. Lallana has to take some blame for the poor overtaking-foul at the top of the box. Migs, as the general manager of the operation, must accept the blame for the whole team. Next time build a wall and make Chelsea pay for it!
I think the wall should have charged forward when they realised what was happening and copped a card. I also think if Mig gets 3 for costing us the goal, then Firmino should get a 3 for getting the ball 8 yards out with time to take a touch and smashing it into the stands. At least Mig’s mistake was associated with a moment of absolute brilliance from an opponent.
Glad to see people above also think that penalty was an absolute shower.
It looked a dive on first, second and third viewing. Shearer and Sinclair only said it was a penalty because pundits who were forwards have a reputation for claiming any contact in the box is a penalty. Just happy Costa lacked the bottle to put it away. Well in Mignolet there.
I think refs should be interviewed after the game. Hey Clat, why did you give a pen for that and not Moses on Milner?
