STINGS that. And I couldn’t give a fuck about what the papers say, and Twitter can go fuck itself, we weren’t bad today, anyway…
Loris Karius: 7
Stupidly good one on one block save in the first half, handling good, kicking OK in a bad wind, can see why he suits us if he can get in the team and maintain his current level, but Simon Mignolet has done nothing to deserve being dropped, so we are where we are.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 7
Again, solid, didn’t disgrace himself at all. Will play in midfield at some point and a measure of his ability that they’re willing to put him in a right-back to give him minutes.
Dejan Lovren: 7
Doing my fucking head in this, we played well, he did alright, and then that, fucking ridiculous.
Joel Matip: 7
See above, fuck this off. Soz, but what else can you say?
James Milner: 6
Seemed a bit off and seemed to break down when in possession, which is unlike him.
Could have maybe taken a ball in the box with his left early in the second period instead of switching it to his left.
Jordan Henderson: 6
Not looked the same since he’s came back, which is a big worry. Playing like he’s still carrying an injury which, like 18 months ago, is limiting his effectiveness massively.
Emre Can: 7
Easy scapegoat but actually did alright, tried to make it happen, got a sniff and a few breaks but just wasn’t happening, endemic of the wider performance.
Adam Lallana: 5
Just slightly off with everything, lacked a bit of snap, but allowed an off-day.
Philippe Coutinho: 6
New contract and that. Looked lively for 60 but faded badly.
Roberto Firmino: 7
Actually played well. Touch, in the main, assured and unlucky with odds and sods.
Faded as the game drifted, though.
Daniel Sturridge: 6
Should have scored, thus winning the game for the Reds because we’d have subsequently buried the other chances.
He’ll know it too.
SUBS
Divock Origi: 6
God only know why he didn’t win a penalty that brings us level, but y’know, shite officials and that.
Georginio Wijnaldum: N/A

First half wasnt great, second half better. Should score two or three of those chances and a clear handball penalty. Meh one of those, disappointed not angry.
Not too far off what I had – although most of your 7s I gave 6, except Karius & Trent. I know Sturridge will get the bulk of the stick for missing the chances, and he knows how important they were. But he wasn’t the only one. Coutinho going with the wrong foot, Lallana cutting back instead of doing what he did against Stoke spring to mind. Looking like this is the end for him and I’m heartbroken, especially if he goes to Juve, or Atletico, or even back to City and starts smashing them in from all angles again.
We’re either knackered, or so out of form we’ve lost belief, or both. Either way Jurgen’s in tray is bulging, and as much as he hates the window, the answer might be the chequebook AND the training pitch.
PS Come on Cameroon…..
Fucking hell, Lallana was so off tonight, going by that pic he couldn’t even spit accurately …
Both centrebacks were awful. Neither better than 5/10.
Agree with rest.
73% possession….700+ passes. And we lose 0-1. The only numbers that matter.
Great game by Southampton. They deserve this.
Great shout and voice from the Anfield fans. They didn’t deserve this.
Soton came with a Double-decker plan, and a counter Plan B. We played Tiki-Taka, some sideways and backwards stuff around the park. Players were and are tired and I’m really worried that they will not be up for either the FA Cup or Chelsea, which is fine, as I can’t blame them. They are probably Gegendepressed at this point.
However Klopp better try and fix this now with the transfer window, his kindergarten club and hopefully on the training grounds as Mo Stewart pointed out. We need fresh legs, ideas whatever.
We were and continue to devoid of skill or plan of how to break down a bus. It will continue, as will Klopp’s strange late subs. Maybe he has no quality to rely on the bench. Poor planning for a league with no winter break, is my guess.
Anyways I am glad in a way that this is done and dusted. Seems like a positive for me but losing to the Mancs at Wembley is not something that would go down well. Two cup runs in the Manchester teams favor – not good for morale.
Come on Klopp, don’t worry about those Twits on Twitter who think you are a Flop…just work on spending less time arguing with officials over irreversible decisions and trust the kids to show up — TAA and Karius have done right by you.
Up the disappointed Reds!!!
Nobody got a 5 in my opinion
Fans paid for expensive tickets kit airfare forced to lift the tean 11 points for them 1 point for songs
It might be just me, but I still can’t figure this post out.
We could do with a captain who inspires by example or charisma or leadership, preferably all. Henderson has none of these. Harsh perhaps, but as he’s a fixture in the side and wearing the armband, so simply shuffling the ball 5 or 10 yards, pointing backward then the odd 40 yard pass isn’t enough.
Frankie, you just don’t have a clue!!! Without Hendo I’d fear for us!
That’s my problem, I have seen true captains: Yeats, Hughes, Souness and Gerrard. This guy has an arm band, nothing else. Could you imagine any other Liverpool captain being told to do one by Balotelli?
Dire performance over two legs. Totally depressing. Nearly 200 mins of football and no goals. 75% possession.. Things have to change. System, players I don’t know. This isn’t working anymore for lfc. Depressing. Every team plays us the same and it works time and again. Park bus job done
Any misplaced pass into midfield and our whole game caves in.
Need pace at the back and midfield, my wife can run faster than Matip and Can.Bless her.
Don’t like to admit it but Soton deserved to go through.Hope they beat the scummy mancs.
Not going today off players or Jurgen but I am seriously worried that our season is turning to dust. The squad is lightweight and its a bit like the old days when we used to say ‘ wait until the heavy grounds come’. Well the heavy grounds don’t come any more but the heavy legs certainly do. We cannot continue to play Can and Henderson alongside each other.
“
We wasted 45 minutes. Not dissimilar to Swansea. I don’t want to see another lateral pass round the D for the rest of my days. Massive plaudits for second half turnaround – bit worried about Klopp spin that’s two in a row now. Think he should have taken one for the team there. Carragher analysis was brutal but couldn’t disagree. Sturridge does actually need to leave for his own career. Break bank for Griezmann please
Sturridge and Can are unsurprisingly getting near all of the blame from the media despite the latter actually looking to try and play it forward, bit difficult when Lallana Coutinho and Bobby aren’t getting into the positions. Fair ratings but thought Matip should have been marked lower, came forward a lot but gave the ball away leaving TAA exposed allowing Southampton to counter attack down that side.
Should have been around 5 or 6-0 on aggregate which is disturbing.
Sort of disagree with your Sturridge rating about winning the game. The game should’ve been dead and buried in the first half hadn’t not been for Karius and a sitter on their behalf.
I’ve been thinking bout this in recent weeks now.
Hendersons done a fantastic job playing 6 but I’m starting to move toward the thinking that we need a Kane/Matic/Wanyama type midfielder in there a day move Hendo slightly forward.
We are just too nice at times.
A few times now in recent weeks I’ve seen players run through our heart with not much more than a heavy breath on his neck. I want someone to take him out. No one should be running down our spine.
By all means keep a midfield three but at least include a proper defensive midfielder if not in the team then at least in the squad.
Can Grujic play that role or does he play further forward?
We’ve seen so little of him it’s hard to tell.
*Kante
If you HONESTLY think Griezmann is gonna come to us then you’re a write off as a supporter.
Southampton deserved to go through. On another day it could have been really embarrassing over two legs.
I think the lack of squad depth has come back and hit us hard. Are we really glad that we made profits in transfers over last few seasons or at least did not spend that much.
Players lacking serious confidence or worse given up on Klopp?
Right from the beginning I saw lack of effort where our players gave up on the ball where they did not.
Some instances where Hendo and Can decline to go forward when given the chance and pass back or sideways. Someone told them not to go into the box?
Our arrogance and lack of character under pressure maybe too much for players. Since topping the league it has not been great.
Onwards!
We were just unlucky to many side passes and backwards passes we gone back to klopps 1st 3 months we need to be a bit more quicker and have a bit more luck TOP 4 ONLY PRIORITY THIS SEASON YNWA
Best team won in all departments over the 2 legs. Game plan. Attitude. Intention. No question.
However I’ve no regrets.
This Cup is for big squads who can take a victory or defeat in February and still drive on with replacements whatever the result afterwards. Or it’s for ‘smaller clubs’ who’s happy to win a cup and survive the league. We’re in neither catagory for years.
A defeat to the mancs would be ten times more devastating while a victory could be Phyrric as we haven’t the quality of replacement legs to celebrate for 2 weeks and recover form for a top league placing- who wants a 9th League Cup while playing Europa in September, or worse- watching others do so? Not me. A victory or defeat could ruin top 4 chances and has distorted many small squads before.
One thing I noticed was that we played our best football since the 1st half against Bournemouth in December during the final 45 minutes. Lady Luck didn’t give Sturridge a goal but the push and fluency seemed to be returning while living on the edge. At the end, we understandably fell off the edge but if we can take that 45 minutes attitude and work rate into next Tuesdays game, we have a hope, though it’s small …, but after that they play Arsenal. So Who knows…?
Defeated but not deflated. Walk on…
Here’s to Firmino in the middle forever.
First time there’s been real pressure on Klopp to sort out a slump. I’m trying not to think about Klopps last season at Dortmund and think positive, but it’s difficult to see what he can change to sort this out until Summer.
watching on tv i barely remember firmino touching the ball while lallana won the ball high up the pitch multiple times with his pressing and was the only one injecting any pace into our game. id swap there scores, other than that seems sensible.
I dont think the tactics were great from klopp. hendo and can were standing on top of each at times, same with sturridge and firmino. no movement in the forward line which makes forward passes very difficult for midfield. people tend to forget a pass involves 2 people, it is all very well complaining hendo passed sideways too often but he needs to have an option to do otherwise.
Also we looked so exposed behind the fullbacks which is a worry when they play so high. We could definitely do with more pace in the team all over the pitch.
