SAKE, Liverpool.
Simon Mignolet: 6
Didn’t really do anything wrong, or have much to do at all. Couldn’t do anything about the three goals. Kicking looks better if you want a positive.
Nathaniel Clyne: 5.5
Covered well at times but was also caught out of position too often.
Dejan Lovren: 5
Not a particularly confident day for the defence as a unit. Hopefully he looks more steady when Joel Matip comes back in.
Ragnar Klavan: 4
Could have been lower. Could have been sent off on a different day, though there was nothing he could do. Put the third on a plate for Gylfi Sigurdsson.
James Milner: 6
Gives us an outlet and width on that left hand side, and a great ball for the first. Willing runner as always.
Emre Can: 4
So, so poor at the moment. Slows everything down, takes too many touches and loses the ball far too often. A matter of time before he’s dropped, surely.
Jordan Henderson: 5.5
Could argue he didn’t do enough to protect but his passes connected well, for the most part.
Georginio Wijnaldum: 6.5
Not his most effective of days but his touch and assist for Roberto Firmino’s second earns him extra.
Adam Lallana: 6
Better in the second half but not in his best spell of form currently, as could be said of so many.
Philippe Coutinho: 6
Looked capable of creating something first half but The Reds didn’t take the game by the scruff of the neck. Strange that he came off but he did look tired, possible effects of his injury.
Roberto Firmino: 8
Produced the two moments of magic that looked like sending Liverpool towards a comeback win. Second goal was world class.
SUBS
Daniel Sturridge: 6
Meh.
Divock Origi: 6
Meh.

Been on the cards for weeks….should of bought 2/3 pacey attackers in Summer never mind January….weve looked thin and shattered from Boro game onwards.Klopps odd Summer Window only & FSG’s profit making plan (see,No Annie Road Extension) has finally bit us on the arse and we must now scrape into top 4 with 13 or so top players in our squad.Id be angry if it wadnt so obvious it was going to happen.
Hendo was awful today. Tried too hard, gave the ball away too often. Can needs—come to think of it, I don’t know what Can needs but he should be out of the team while we try to figure it out. For this game, I hoped he’d move Millie to midfield and bring in Moreno.
On the plus side, Bobby F was tremendous. Constant clever movement, the work rate, strength and two great finishes.
Hey Josh why don’t you rate the fans and the manager too while you’re at it?
Fans at the ground were absolute rubbish — 1/10 for the graveyard atmosphere and lack of any sort of fighting songs during the first half. Only bloody wake up after a goal is in. Blame it on the damn Millennials again right! :)
Klopp for being poor about not planning for Mane’s known international incursion, our poor defending and faith in some players who are not very intelligent (Clyne, Klavan, Lovren, Can), not playing the kids, overconfidence/complacency and playing with no striker from the off — 2/10
The next few teams, including Chelsea will scalp us now if this keeps up. Sounds like panic, but seeing the way the team has played since Mane left hasn’t really left me with much confidence.
One of those days then? Sorry mate but just really mad about today’s performance and attitude towards a team struggling at the bottom half.
Up the depressing Reds!!!
How much noise did YOU make?
Much more than you probably will ever Lee.
Sorry, but if fans are going to watch the game at Anfield they/we expect to be louder than loud to give the team a good reminder that we’re up to it from the whistle.
Maybe we need to hook us out-of-towners with a microphone to Anfield. Show you guys how it’s done next time. :)
Anyways everyone’s got another shot against Southampton. Show everyone how the 12th man does it. We’ll expect nothing less!
Can shouldn’t be anywhere near the side. The manager clearly looks through rose tinted glasses when picking him. By picking him, it shoves Lallana further forward where he is less effective. Lallana should be in that midfield with Henderson and Wijnaldum. It’s like he feels he HAS to pick him.
I’d still rather have Joe Allen in this side. Can’s strong games are the exceptions, not the rule. He was ponderous and chicken-headed for a long, long stretch last season when Klopp continued to pick him match after match despite his poor form. The only time I’ve seen him consistent was as part of a back three.
Speaking of defense, I would love nothing more than for Klopp to pull out all the stops to land Van Dijk next summer. Lovren should be a back up to Matip and Van Dijk.
In total agreement on Lallana. Coutinho-Firmino-Sturridge up top, Wij-HEndo-Lallana in the middle.
I’m still behind Migs.
We’ve conceded twice as many goals as Spurs. You can’t protect a poor keeper whichever plays and a very ropey defence when Matip doesn’t play with a three man midfield. Every single team no matter who we play looks dangerous against us and quite frankly I find thank fucking inexcusable. Questions need a lot at looking at right now. No one is above criticism even the manager.
The average of these ratings is where our league finish will be. 6th or 5th. We need to concentrate on the FA cup. The old adage “You build from the back” holds as true today as it ever did, and that what we need to do.
Same Old. Same Old. Wide Attacker was needed in Jan but our bosses in their wisdom decided that square pegs in a round hole would serve us well, because it has served us so well in the past. Have heard unverified reports that we missed out on Draxler because we wouldn’t meet his wage demands. Wonder what that cost would be against the cost of missing out on the league title in terms of future player recruitment and retaining current players.
On a side note, maybe we don’t anoint future captains for the time being, it doesn’t seem to have done Sakho and Can any good.
A very poor performance today it looks like teams have found a way to play against Liverpool now especially when Mane is out of the squad. Hopefully this is a wake up call, the cup games are a must win now as a silverware and a top 4 place would be a very good season with this set of players.
Felt sorry for Firmino after that. Only he and Lallana had decent games.
Mane being away is a double whammy. Firstly because of what he gives us up front & secondly because neither Sturridge or Origi have made a decent claim to start Lallane has been pushed up front where he is less effective. Plus it means Can gets a starting place & I really don’t see what he brings to the team. Does not press quickly enough, too slow in his passing, gives the ball away too easily and for a big guy does not win enough tackles. In summary if we could play our best 11 in every game we would be fine but the squad lacks quality.
The result we all feared but it’s been coming.
It was a must win game at home against the team bottom of the league.
I’ve seen this film before.
Players who don’t give a fuck because there is no competition for thier place. No depth of qaulity. With Leicester long forgotten, it’s getting pretty this league when Chelsea have already won it again in January. The Manchester/Chelsea league.
Todays midfield will win us nothing. Slow of feet and thought. Too much sideways stuff in the 1st 45.
Atmosphere @ anfield is flatter than a witches tit these days what’s the story ?
I think witches tits are traditionally primarily cold
Haha true but the ones I knew were also flat
Two +1s from above. Like Milner coming back into mid and Moreno. Fans really really poor like we’re big time Charlies that don’t need to lower themselves for a fixture of this ‘status’.
Of course this has been brewing and of course we are being ‘worked out’. Flooding the box (probably why Clyde had space) and pressing the pivot pass on the D proving to stifle most of our quick exchanges. Failure to adapt and flood the overlaps draw them out only happened when Coutinho came off. I mean a child of 8 could see they were playing overly narrow. Love Klopp’s Plan A but hating the players ability to work out a Plan b on the hoof (and to be fair Klopp has said this many many times). Angriest we’ve ever seen him and rightly so.
There was to be fair an element of bad luck. They create 3 chances and they all get netted. That requires luck when you have Swansea’s track record. The third was unbelievable sequence of luck in their favour.
Anyway at least I can cancel my BT Sport membership and save some cash.
They have been poor for over a month now. Can somebody please remind me the last game we played that was enjoyable to watch (win, lose, or draw). Even when we beat City 1-0 on New’s Years Eve, we did not play well.
I agree about what’s been said about the atmosphere. I listened to the game on the radio, until I could get home and watch a recording, and from the singing of YNWA up until after the first Firmino goal the Anfield crowd could not be heard at all. If it wasn’t for the Swansea fans singing I’d have thought there was a technical fault in the broadcast.
This is beyond a joke now. Everyone blames everyone else for the lack of atmosphere, and the manager seems to bring it up on a weekly basis, but if you’ve got a ticket you’ve got the responsibility, no-one else. Don’t complain about away fans singing about the lack of atmosphere if when they stop singing the stadium falls silent. Quite frankly, we’re an embarrassment.
I thought the Swansea fans were poor for an away side, they were just as bad first half, only livening up once the goals were flying in.
There is more of an issue than having a duty to sing or not being up for it. There was a few wools by me (upper main, and I don’t mean to use that term in a derogatory way) who were having a good go. Probably the most atmospheric part of the ground but without enough numbers to get it bouncing.
Did I join in? No I didn’t. Why? Because sitting on my own doesn’t get me up for the singing part (although I can shout and moan like fuck). It’s an issue that’s been discussed many times before and will do again. Lads want to sit next to their mates if possible and the club need to try and make this happen. Not saying it’ll be the answer but speaking for myself, I know I’d be a lot more vocal with a mate/family next to me.
One final point, I thought the block 306 was meant to be done sort of singing section? If I was sitting on my own there I actually would feel a duty to sing.
Hi Jimmy, I am one of those wools you mention. Can’t make every home and away game from the US, but despite the cost I made some matches. The last one was against the Mancs last season at home when Shrek scored the winner.
I lost my voice and got a throat infection for my trouble trying to raise the roof in the wool section if you will. Guess what, I and my mate tried our best and used no escuse of this seat or that. Just fucking riled and embarrassed ourselves with our pathetic vocals and lyrics, but what pissed me off besides the Anfield library taking effect was the away Mancs before and after the goal sounding off like an angry hornets nest. Fuck I wanted to chuck a fucking bottle or two at them, but lost my voice trying to outsing them.
So much for the famous atmosphere at Anfield I though then. Was happy when I saw that return during the Dortmund game and thought Jurgen did it. But yesterday’s game reminded me that nothing’s seemed to have changed nor will it ever, given the attitude of most people these days attending the matches. Every match, especially when we are considering ourselves title contenders, and are actually in a respectable position, needs to be like the Dortmund game atmosphere. Otherwise what’s the fucking point?
So let’s bring the atmosphere for the next match at home – wherever we are, we are Reds through and through. Let’s do the team and Jurgen proud, and turn this library into a Colosseum!
Up the glorious Reds fans!!!
Very very kind mark for Hendo there. He was about a 3. I don’t think he passed to a player in red all day so your remark about passing is strange too. He needs taking off if he’s playing like that.
Sakho and Mario and Trent Alexander Arnold in defence for the next 23 games. Can’t be worth than today
Meant Sakho, Matip and TAA
Hendo and Can does never work for 3 games in a row
Bad day at the office all around, the individual ratings are a nonsense today as the team, crowd and manager were less than the sum of their parts. No invention in midfield, two strikers brought on and not passed to, and Matip up front when what we needed was an injection of pace a lot earlier. Lucky that others results were kind, but that result makes any type of result against Chelsea irrelevant now in terms of the title, we’re scrapping for fourth now.
I look for positives. If it stops Bulshit Central yapping about Title Charges based on nothing then I will take that as a positive. Scrapping for 4th like we have been all along
Two things – hendo was rotten. Barely completed a pass. And second – crowd sounded ok on the telly but its not the atmosphere of old and my question is this – what songs do we actually have? I dont think its people not trying to create atmosphere i honestly think we dont know what to do. How bout a show on some new songs? Maybe some of the younger fans need to be helped along and that could be the way
