Simon Mignolet 8
Very unlucky with the goal, had no right to get anything on it and going backwards — was always a hard ask. His kicking was sound and made a very good, and match changing, stop with his feet that would’ve made it 2-0.
Nathaniel Clyne 6
Fuming with him for about 20 minutes in the first half when he wasn’t the slightest bit interested in getting involved with Walters while Stoke were on top.
Ragnar Klavan 6
Hugely impressive the last few weeks but had a horror of a first 20, steadied himself but by that point we could have been staring at a 2-0 deficit.
Dejan Lovren 6
Played from 10-35 like he’d never seen a lad taller than him on a football pitch — absolutely terrorised by Crouch and looked like he had no idea what to do. Grew into it though.
James Milner 8
Quietly man of the match. His influence and experience got Liverpool through when it looked like it was going to go very bad.
Gini Wijnaldum 7
Kept it ticking over, not as impressive as he was in our last match against Everton when we beat them in the 94th minute thanks to a Sadio Mane goal that sent the Reds home with another derby victory.
Adam Lallana 7
Despite the goal, not his usual self, similar to his performance against Everton when we beat them in the 94th minute thanks to a Sadio Mane goal that sent the Reds home with another derby victory.
Jordan Henderson 8
Vying with Milner for MOTM, kept his head and his rhythm, unlucky to get cock blocked by Sturridge late on.
Roberto Firmino 7
Ropey first half, nothing coming off for him, reflective of the team in sense of performance. Much better after his goal, needed one after having one cleared off the line last week against Everton when we beat them in the 94th minute thanks to a Sadio Mane goal that sent the Reds home with another derby victory.
Sadio Mane 6
Touch looked a bit off and shirked a few 50/50s but causes enough problems just with his mere presence, as evidenced for Liverpool’s third.
Divock Origi 7
Must be under massive pressure now for a starting berth from Sturridge, physically always a threat and seems to be slowly adapting to how the team is evolving.
Daniel Sturridge 8
Came on, scored, done the arms.
Emre Can 7
Panzer.
Alberto Moreno N/A.
Had a bevvy then Andy?
Pretty fair I think. I would give Klavan a 7. Clyne was poor for their goal – faffing around in no-mans-land and letting Mane go out and not block the cross. And if the club is going to the lengths of bringing in nutritionists from Germany, surely they can get someone to teach him how to throw a football more than 5 metres.
A 4-1 win with average ratings. One day it is all going to click and we’ll hit 8+. Job for Klopp now is to get Studge in the team without affecting the overall balance. He is simply too good at doing one of the two things on the field that actually counts.
What happened to all the 10’s like last week against Everton when we beat them in the 94th minute thanks to a Sadio Mane goal that sent the Reds home with another Derby victory
No.
But, yes, But no.
Great result after a shaky start! Lovren stresses me, although he has improved a bit this season he still has a mistake in him!! Sturridge has to start against City the man has immense talent, i’d like to see him have a run now in the team…i said a couple of months back if we are going to go close this season he will have a big part to play. Roll on the sky blues!!
Have any of you buggers ever played centre-half? Stoke were the better team first 30 so why shouldn’t you expect your c-hs and the rest of the defence to be under pressure? Yes, Crouch caused Lovren trouble in the first 30 – there’s a reason he’s scored more headed goals in the EPL than any other player – but for the next 60 I thought Lovren was excellent…including a couple of really great last ditch tackles and important clearing headers. Dead harsh a 6.
6 was generous. Lovren was really poor, as he has been most of the season. Genuinely a terrible defender.
“for the next 60 I thought Lovren was excellent” – you mean when Stoke stopped attacking???
“a couple of really great last ditch tackles and important clearing headers.” – these things never happened.
Surely Lovren shouldnt let him run across him and stand in front of him for 10 seconds before he heads in for 1st goal. That alone should get a 6, schoolboy defending
Agree with you mate, but wouldn’t expect many others to.
Talking to you as if some great last ditch tackles never happened, but then invent in their head mistakes that never happened!
Mad that you think Firmino deserved a 7.
N/A for Moreno???
He did after all, almost score the maddest goal in the history of Anfield… when after the ball ping-ponged about like it was in a Pinball machine, he attempted a Triple-Gainor, Sideways, Overhead Bicycle/Midair Volley… and of course shanked it… but hey I’d have thought 10/10 for Effort!
I’d keep Albie at the club solely to bring him on when we are 4-1 up.
Honestly thought Moreno looked good in his cameo on the wing and everything I’ve heard is how well he has done in practice. Might be the only one but I’d love to see him get another chance to start again once Milner moves on from LB
I thought the mad little bastard looked pretty exciting when he came on. Beating players for fun. Charging into the box at speed. Attempting overhead kicks. It was great to see him involved. Upfront and in the middle mind you. Don’t let him anywhere near the back four for f***s sake.
In fairness to the little man, that ball was goal-bound and pinged off Johnson’s “johnson”. You have to freeze the camera and swing it around Matrix style to fully appreciate the acrobatic effort.
Did we win the derby then?
Good result and yet my mates all moaning about the goalkeeper.
Lads fuck off, support Everton and live with this every week…
“our last match against Everton when we beat them in the 94th minute thanks to a Sadio Mane goal that sent the Reds home with another derby victory.”
Think Gini is arguably man of the match. The lads an absolute class act and just oozes calm and assurance every time he has the ball. The rest i pretty much agree with.
Hi Andy thanks for the ratings. Not too bothered by them though I agree with Brownie Stoke played well int he first 20 minutes and put us through the ringer.
Thought the team came together impressively soon after that. It took some more nonsense here and there, but loved how Milner and Hendo played today.
Perhaps Lallana and company may have had the Christmas spirit for bit too long, but them delivered. Was so badly hoping for Sturridge to score one and boy did he – thanks very much Mr. Shawcross, he and we’ll take that.
Saw Pep and Moyes smiling after the Stoke goal, but soon after our goal they began taking notes frantically. Not sure what they were writing, but they know they’re up against a formidable Reds team. It felt like watching City vs the Reds tonight, and I wish the scoreline stays the same for us on Saturday.
Up the formidable Reds who rallied against Everton when we beat them in the 94th minute thanks to a Sadio Mane goal that sent the Reds home with another derby victory!!!
Studge’s one on one left me thinking about Benteke. He missed a fistfull of them last season. How glad I am he’s gone. How much quality Daniel has. But who can figure him out? I hope he can become the team player that klopp demands and stay fit.
Fucks me off reading these comments. Stoke weren’t the better team for 30 minutes. No fuckin way. I had £700 riding on us winning without conceding. Had a decent cash out that would have paid for my ski pass and ski hire in 3 weeks but when the game started they didn’t get in our half. There was no way I was cashing out. Then they scored. Then had another chance. Better team though, fuck right off. I knew within 5 minutes we’d win this game comfortably. P.s Had 4-1 too but cashed out on 70 mins.
Apologies. Bit drunk when I wrote this but my point was until they scored they didn’t get in our half. I was watching the cash out and felt at ease. They had another good chance after that but that was it for the game. I felt comfortable we’d win.
lol!!
Chunky bets…
” …when we beat them in the 94th minute thanks to a Sadio Mane goal that sent the Reds home with another derby victory.”
Laughed out loud each time this was mentioned. The secret of comedy. Repetition.
ESPN Soccernet wrote that Milner is probably the best left back we have since Steve Nicol…I thought it’s interesting comment.
A game where we showed how much we have improved as a team and as a crowd. First twenty five they were playing well and causing problems even scoring a good goal and a chance of a second but our keeper did really well. We then started to play with Hendo setting the tempo and some solid performances as per the ratings. Gotta disagree on Lovren, thought he was boss after the initial 25. Shows where we are when you whoop Stoke 4-1 and it just feels like par for the course.
Was even better being in the ground to see it live, I love that place and the new stand is unreal, half a dozen times I heard them leading on the singing WTF have they had brain transplants after the Everton game

There’s a lot of blinkered hatred for Lovren much as there was plenty of blind faith in Sakho. Some of it justified, some of it pure sandbags to shore up the entrenched position. One thing we can all agree on is that we’ll stand a much better chance of snuffing out Aguero if Matip is underpinning the defence.
I’m with you on the Lovren grudge-in. That said, I wouldn’t complain in the least if we spent big for another Southampton CB. Virgil van Dijk and Matip would have us sorted for a decade, Lovren a princely benchwarmer. Then spend the summer lining up Pulisic and a young LB to take over for Milner as he ages.
But enough of that nonsense. Fantastic win. A real pleasure to watch. I’ve been keeping tabs on Joe Allen over the season, but this is one where I don’t mind him walking away frustrated. Hoped to see Shaqiri, who admitted Rodgers had pursued him aggressively, and Arnie. But I’d rather see Sturridge’s wiggly arms any day!
Van Dijk would be very nice indeed but he’ll cost as much as the rest of the South Coast Reds put together. Still, did you see the way he ‘let’ Dele beat him in the air for Spurs’ equaliser?! Yeah, there’s a mistake in him every game. Terrible signing!
Glad to see some positivity over Lovren. (one guy earlier in the thread as well…) The guy has been excellent all season! “looks like he has a mistake in him.” well he’s barely made any all season! And show me a defender in the league who hasn’t made a mistake all season?!
Negative Nancys get that way coz they watch their own 90 mins every week and spot every single mistake (and maybe even invent some!) and then big up other teams’ players off watching one or two games max and then motd!
Henderson was horrendous first half but found his passing range in the second.
