GEORGINIO Wijnaldum has talked up the mood in the Liverpool dressing room and believes it’s a great time to be a Red.
The Dutch midfielder scored his first goal for the club in Sunday’s 6-1 win over Watford at Anfield.
And Wijnaldum has embraced the current positive atmosphere at the club, insisting it is a pleasure to pull on the red shirt.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s a blessing for everyone in the dressing room that we can be a part of this team and this club. In situations and moments where it is going well, you enjoy football more than normal – and in this situation, we are enjoying football more than normal.
“We are scoring goals and playing good. Unfortunately we could not keep another clean sheet, but we won and scored a lot of goals – that’s the most important thing.
“You enjoy playing in a team like this because it’s going well and you’re playing with good players. We want to keep the ball and score goals, and we’re trying to defend well. They are happy moments here in Liverpool.”
Wijnaldum scored the Reds sixth goal and was relieved to open his goal scoring account for the club, particularly after he set himself a target of 10 goals before the season.
He added: “I’m really pleased, especially in a game like this when you see everyone scoring. I was searching for the goal and I’m happy that I’ve got it.”
Sunday’s win saw Jürgen Klopp’s side move to the top of the league, a point clear of Chelsea in second, and the Dutch international insists the team will do everything in their power to make the spot their own.
“The manager and the technical staff will do everything to keep it the same – we will work the same and play the same.
“We as players must realise that it is not common to be at the top of the league, so you must work hard – that’s what we’ve done, worked hard to get there.
“Now we will try to stay there until the end of the season because being at the top of the table at the end of the season is more important than it is now. It’s still early in the season, so everything can happen.
“We must be aware it can change quickly, so we need to keep the spirit in the team and fight for every point we can get.”

It’s all going gangbusters at the moment and I for one am really excited by the start we have made. But maybe like a lot of Reds the gnawing doubts are scratching away at us, no clean sheets, we are getting carried away , it’s all too good to be true etc etc! But sod it the Reds are good, they’re very good, they’re getting better too. So I am banishing doubt I am getting behind the exciting free scoring hard working Reds and I am going to enjoy the ride all the way till May! #WTRWWAW
