IT’S the day after an anti-climatic end to 17 days of highly-anticipated build-up to the visit of Manchester United to Anfield, as the Reds had to settle for a goalless draw.
Jürgen Klopp would have left the least happy of the two managers, as Jose Mourinho clearly went into it wanting to kill the game, but when we look back in May the point may not seem so bad. Maybe it will, but it probably won’t.
Emre Can: We Deserved To Win The Game
If you were at Anfield, and even if you weren’t, you would have had every right to feel as though Liverpool could and should have taken all three points. Two saves from David De Gea and one world class challenge from Antonio Valencia prevented that. But the Reds were definitely the better team, as Emre Can concurs.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: “I think we deserved more and deserved to win the game, because we had the better chances and played better.
“It wasn’t our best game but we played better than Manchester United, I think, and deserved to win.”
Dejan Lovren: Better Not To Lose
As I said before, on reflection, it probably isn’t the worst point in the world. And, as Dejan Lovren has rightly pointed out, it’s better than being left empty-handed and it keeps us on a seven-game unbeaten run, still very much within touching distance of Manchester City in first place.
Degsy told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s always frustrating when you don’t win, but like I said it’s better not to lose and to be in the race always.
“They defended really well, they were really deep. It was also a little bit tough for us, we had a lot of changes because of injuries, but hopefully by the next game everyone will be fit.”
Mourinho’s On The Wind-Up
No shock there, really. Not only have his pre-match comments about the Manc ref potentially landed him in trouble with the FA, his thoughts after the match have managed to get under the skin of many Liverpool fans.
He said: “They are not the last wonder of the world like you like to say they are but they are a very good team so we needed to adapt a little bit to that.”
He is a prick but you’ve just got to get on with it, to be honest.
On The Buses
Personally, I’m not overly upset about the point last night. The game was shite, which was annoying, but the result was OK. It’s all well and good to moan about how we struggle against teams that park the bus but it’s even more difficult against a Mourinho side that is so expensively put together. They’re not pushovers, remember.
