ANOTHER working day draws to a close and we’re a day closer to watching the Reds take on Manchester United, in what promises to be a big occasion under the lights at Anfield.
There’s been a lot of talk ahead of the game today, and I don’t know about you but it’s already got me bouncing – not that you need much motivation before of a game like this. Need more of the scenes that we saw last season in the Europa League, just loads more goals this time Reds.
Club Introduce Salary Cap For Youngsters
Massively behind this, me. See way too many young lads being given the world, so it’s great to see Liverpool getting involved in something like this. The Telegraph are reporting that the club have introduced a wage cap at Academy level to combat the ‘too much, too young’ culture in English football.
Reports suggest Liverpool won’t be paying more than a basic salary of £40,000 a year to their 17-year-old first season professionals – which seems reasonable, to be honest. Jürgen Klopp has also been talking about making it a “special club” for youngsters to represent.
He said: “That’s how the future should be, even in the crazy football transfer world. We want to be this special club. It’s important for us that even if they don’t make it through at Liverpool that they’ve had the best education they could get.”
Up the young and not overpaid Reds!
Mignolet: Being Dropped Hurts
One thing that stands out to me with Simon Mignolet, despite the criticism he’s come under during his time at the club, is how professional he is off the pitch. While he admits that being dropped to the bench hurts, he knows that he has to take it on the chin and go again.
He said: “Every time you sit on the bench it hurts. I’m also a lot more nervous on the bench than on the pitch. But the intention is to play again as soon as possible.
“The important thing is that I try to handle to situation the best I can. I think my response has been positive. It was also appreciated by the supporters.”
Expecting Loris Karius to start on Monday but can’t fault Si’s attitude.
Dwight Yorke: Liverpool Can Win The League
I just love to see the Reds’ egos getting boosted. Especially by heroes of the Mancs. This time it’s Dwight Yorke backing the Liverpool title chase – kind of. He reckons the competition is as fierce as its been in years, which he thinks leaves us with a big shout.
He told 888sport: “It’s very hard to predict who is going to win which is a good thing because in seasons past it was easy to say who would finish in the top two. That’s not the case anymore and Liverpool have a genuine chance of winning the Premier League this year that’s for sure.”
The Reds there, coming right up that hill.
Seeing Is Believing
The Reds are supporting Standard Chartered’s initiative to tackle avoidable blindness by donning the “Seeing is Believing” logo on their shirts when they face United at Anfield.
Klopp was down at Melwood getting behind the cause, and he told the ECHO: “It’s a perfect moment for ‘Seeing is Believing’ because this game will have to be seen for people to believe what will happen.”
Is right!
#LFC & @StanChart have teamed up to tackle avoidable blindness.
