IF you did find yourself watching international football last night — not that I blame you if you weren’t — you might have seen Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum limp off in his country’s 1-0 defeat to France.
That’s my biggest problem with international breaks. We’re on a roll after securing a crucial win against Swansea, unbeaten in five in the league and then the break comes just before one of our biggest games of the season; and with it comes injuries and uncertainties about travelling, and time to train. ‘Kinell football. Why can’t we just watch the Reds play all the time?
Injury Latest
As previously mentioned, Wijnaldum limped off holding his hamstring while playing for Holland last night. It is now being reported that he is a major doubt for the game against Manchester United and will undergo scans tomorrow to discover the full extent of his injury.
Elsewhere, the Reds are still sweating over the fitness of Adam Lallana as he has yet to return to full training. He was brought off against Swansea having suffered a groin injury. His lack of progress surely makes him another doubt for the game.
However, on the bright side, it seems as though Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren will be fit for the game. That’s good news, right? Right?!
Comolli: Henderson Move Is The Reason I Was Sacked
Damien Comolli has been talking about his time at Liverpool — now, there’s a surprise — and claims that the signing of Jordan Henderson was the reason he was sacked as director of football, after the midfielder was chosen to captain England in their upcoming game against Slovenia.
He told talkSPORT: “The day I got sacked they told me I had made a big mistake on Jordan and he was a waste of money.
“I never said it publicly, but I was convinced he would be the future captain. People will say it is easy to say now, but I was convinced at the time that he would become the Liverpool captain. Now he is and he is also the England captain.”
Pinch of salt, maybe? For what it’s worth, I was convinced that the world wasn’t going to end in 2012 — I just never said it publicly.
Milner: Henderson Is A Great Captain
Somebody else saying nice things about Hendo. This time it’s James Milner, who reckons his Liverpool and former England teammate is a great captain and deserves the recognition from his country.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: “He is a top player with a top attitude. He is a great captain here — obviously I have played under him for the last year.
“Last year times were tough for him when he was injured and desperate to be out on the field, but he was a great leader even when he wasn’t playing, which isn’t the easiest thing to do.
“He showed that last year and obviously this year on the field he has been playing amazingly. He’ll be a great leader for England as well.”
Love it, lads. Up the being nice Reds.
Carra And Redknapp Reds XI
It’s great this. Former Reds and current Sky colleagues Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp pick their Liverpool FC Premier League XI.
No place for Michael Owen or Fernando Torres, to which Carragher says: “One went to Man United and one went to Chelsea, so fuck them!”
