IN depth tactical analysis of Liverpool vs Chelsea from The Anfield Wrap – Neil Atkinson hosts Stuart Wright and Sean Rogers to review the game.
The consensus is that we saw the side would start against Sevilla yet Chelsea impressed.
Sturridge and Firmino seemed to want to occupy the same space, Can and Milner were less effective and Chelsea posed Klopp questions.
He tried to change it at half time but Liverpool couldn’t impose themselves.
James McKenna from SOS pops in to talk to Neil about the reality of Liverpool’s trip to Basel, both the town and the ground. Jay gets stuck into UEFA but also offers warnings about what we could expect.
It’s a thorough show. One of The Anfield Wrap’s finest…
Everyone knows the stadium is too small, the ticket allocation is a disgrace and that thousands of reds who deserve a ticket will go without but be under no illusions, if things go to shit at Basle, no matter how minor, there’s only one group that will be vilified and it’s not Uefa
So,if you don’t have a ticket, don’t go.
Good show. Re Basel and the media: I suspect the establishment are hurting after the Hillsborough judgement and will look for any excuse to target misbehaviour. They’ll then run out the tired old meme about Liverpool fans that goes Heysel-Hillsborough-Basel – that’s what they’re waiting for. Best not to give them an excuse given the suffering the families have been through already. I’m guessing that was the subtext of Jay’s argument.
In-depth tactical analysis that is not premised on having carefully re-watched the match being analyzed is a bit of a contradiction in terms.
The comparison/contrast cannot simply be between the ‘stats & graphs’ and ‘watching the game’ (live or on T.V.). The latter is the least reliable basis.
Whoever participates in The Tuesday Review or the functional equivalent thereof (as was this podcast) must have carefully re-watched the match. Watching highlights (even extended highlights) is not adequate preparation.
Helpfully, all or most LFC matches are available to be re-watched online. For example, the match being discussed in this podcast:
