DEARIE me, Liverpool.
In such control and then they threw it away. I tweeted at half time that the next goal would be crucial, thinking if they got one they might get their tails up.
Newcastle showing plenty of effort so next goal key. Fingers crossed for no injuries. Heart has been in mouth a couple of times! JG

But in truth they barely threatened. We just gifted them a point. Even at 2-2 there was plenty of time to win it, but by that point we found it difficult to get going again.
A win would have been nice to go to Spain with. Instead we go with a bit more uncertainty than looked possible this morning, in a happier time before diet pills and Mignolet spills.
Simon Mignolet 5
Frustrating for the first as he clearly didn’t fancy it at any point. Nothing he can do with the second though, and fairly quiet besides.
Connor Randall 5
You’d fancy him in a battle, but couldn’t show enough of the required quality going forward.
Alberto Moreno 7
Great first half, especially for the second goal. Has the entire left side to himself and was happy to gallop into it. Faded a bit second.
Kolo Toure 6
You’re always reluctant to score centre halves too high when you concede twice, but in truth he looked fine. Especially in the circumstances.
Dejan Lovren 6
Won everything in the air when the ‘keeper wasn’t on top of him.
Kevin Stewart 6
Shame he lost his 100% league record. Getting more confident with his clipped passing both feet. A bit too confident with a wild shot though.
Joe Allen 7
Seems at one with the footy. Real surprise to see his number come up.
Adam Lallana 7
Great goal, always lovely to see a player pass it into the top corner. Nice to see a player nick it off their toes so much too.
James Milner 7
Gets himself into some great positions on the football pitch. Was the main forward player trying to give width.
Roberto Firmino 6
Was confusing them with his movement first half especially. But frustrates me by not trying to instigate more when we need it.
Daniel Sturridge 7
Keeps scoring like Gerd Muller. I still think he is around the pitch too much though. Especially if he doesn’t really want to pass it. Should have had a penalty, mind.
SUBS
Lucas Leiva 5
Not sure him and Stewart was necessary. Won some balls well, but a bit sloppy too.
Philippe Coutinho 5
Couldn’t really get in the game.
Sheyi Ojo 6
Terrific run and cut back for Phil. Scared them to death.
Bit generous for firmino, think he’s stunk the place out since hes come back from the latest injury.
Probably controversial comment considering the anfield wrap lads think he’s the dogs bollocks
Fair comment, Firmino had a few nice touches but was largely invisible. Seemed to be alarmingly weak today as well. Least said about the bloke allegedly in goal the better.
I refuse to talk about the bloke in goal, he’s dead to me!
I hope he proves me wrong next season but fear he’s no good. Doesn’t contribute enough. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he pulled the wool over our stats guys – they didn’t check how many of his recovery tackles came from his own mistakes. Hope he proves me wrong and he deserves a second season, but Gotze would be an upgrade.
Agree with that. When he’s not keyed into the game he becomes a passenger really quickly. He floats around looking for pockets of space (which is great) but after getting in good positions, just gives it away. When we’re so dominant there are times where you just need to hold onto it and increase the pressure, but he lets us down right now in that regard. His stats seem misleading in general, he’s fundamentally a poacher who plays in a deeper position but doesn’t link the game particularly well. Like a trequartista who can’t pass. He’s constantly trying things – which is his job, but they don’t often come off. Anyway, he may still be adjusting and hasn’t been a flop by any means, but one to keep a close eye on next year.
Fucking Mignolet.
don’t know what game you were at we had totally lost control of game til Lucas came on and we got back into it last 20 should be made captain he lost ball twice Allan, Milner were poor second half Milner better as right back. You might just appreciate him on thurs .
Lucas should be captain??? He’s appalling!
Klopp: 6
Rafa: 8
Bringing on a defensive midfielder at half time when you have been totally outclassed and cut to pieces in the first half. Where have we seen that before?
Hamann in Istanbul 2005, by Rafa as well:)
It was a rhetorical question, not a quiz. Correct anyway.
There is a woman in Italy. She has just come back from a long trip. A butterfly flaps its wings. Her partner, who had previously seemed happy enough to take her to meet her sister at the airport suddenly starts sulking and giving her a hard time about not having her licence. Fucking Mignolet.
I can’t take this no more. With a keeper equivalent to what the other top teams have we wouldn’t just be in the CL places, we’d be competing for the title. I have watched the Reds for 43 years. I have survived Souey deciding to sell Beardsley and buy Mark Walters. I have survived white suits. I have survived friends of George Bush. I have survived the Hodge. But if Mig is our first choice next year, I am going to watch Leicester.
Been watching for almost as long as you. In that time there have been many regular starters who have divided opinions. There is absolutely no division of opinion with Mignolet only unanimity.
Spot on. Lost count on how often we have gave away our lead or lost points because of this keeper. Enough said..
Sick of blowing two goal fucking leads, I don’t mind a good team playing well and getting back in but gifting them goals at this level is a joke.. Still some of the play was great again just the change of personnel was partly to play, that Mignolet though fucking hell how many times….?? Agree with the ratings though..
Yeah thought kev Stewart would come off instead of Allen but you know eye on the game that matters Thursday innit.
A league position worth being arsed about went with that Skrtel’s great 45 at Southampton. It’s always better to beat shite at home when your so superior first half but Benitez can crack on with that free point we gifted them. Crack on. Hope yous do it on the basis of seeing a minimum of fat lads with their bellies out. *shrugs*
Old fella next to me loved joe Allen. ‘Unlucky, joe.’ ‘Great ball, joe.’ ‘Well played, joe.’ Etc. This man was the very best of us.
Mignolet could have done better for the second: his feet are wrong before the deflection, and he’s already dropping to a knee. They literally coach you not to do that . . . for example, in case the ball takes a deflection. Who could’ve imagined it?
But after the first he was struggling in himself.
Psst……I don’t think John likes Lucas very much.
Pity
Interestingly (or not) when Klopp went to 2 holding midfielders at home in the second half to Newcastle, whilst drawing I wondered what the fume level in 09/10 would have been if Benitez had done the same!!. Lots of comments about waiters and defensive stuff I guess from those haters
Didn’t enjoy that. A return to old troubles. Anxiety levels for next Thursday slowly increasing. Injuries to key players; drug tests; goalkeeping howlers; loss of 2 goal leads;
Need to steady this ship…and quickly.
1. We need a proper #1 who commands his 6 yard and preferably his 18 yrd boxes.
2. Also need attacking players who float between the lines, are decisive and deadly. Seen enough of Lalana and Firmino to realise they are merely squad players at an ambitious Club. Pay the money and sign World Cup win, pristinely capable and efficient players, to name 2, are essential if we are to progress.
3. Sick to death of Moreno, the lads at TAW need to face facts and write him off. He makes everything look so difficult and complicated. A Spaniard who is technically poor. Need I say more. But worse of all he can’t defend, prevent incoming crosses, he always looks less than enthusiastic when needing to defend, and contributes little when attacking. Other than that he is sound FFS!! Smith needs a run of games to rubber stamp his technique speed and quality of final ball/cut box in the box. The lad is a Rolls Royce of a player only lacking experience.
Add the above to our squad and we’re ready to go next season
Very silly comment
I actually agree with all this. Not sure on smith – hope its true but havent seen enough to know yet. Albie M has pace andenergy which is great. Scares oppositions. But no end product so whats the point. Plus cant defend. So i too struggle to see how he makes us better. I want flano on the pitch. Really interested to see if he could become a centre back. Plus We need some scouse passion
Deliberate error above was excluding names of Reus/Gotze
Mignolet is written on Rodgers tombstone. They cannot let history repeat itself. He costs us countless points a season. It should be the other way round.
I am just as annoyed as everyone about the crap second half but I am not expecting perfection from this Klopp team.
Its still the same team he inherited.
Its still got the same faults.
Even with that draw we have lost once in 17 games….. That’s not bad.
The two performances where we have dropped points in that run are yesterday and the Southampton game.
We basically gave those points away.
We need a new goalie.
I think I read a stat yesterday saying that Mingolet has cost us 23 points this season, which would put us in the title chase.
That says everything.
He is not even the best keeper at Liverpool right now so why should he continue to play????
I hope it’s Ward for the rest of the season.
23 points flapped away by the flipping flapping pear munching divvy.
Sorry Simon. Its time to do one.
Spot on, Jon. Well said. 23 points?!!!
Also you made an excellent point abut 1 loss in17. Didn’t realise we are that good already. We shall get better next season for sure.
23??? Could be interesting to see where these 23 points are. That’s effectively 8 defeats. Or directly linked to maybe 5 defeats and 4 draws.
Odd that there’s no mention of Lovren’s calamity defending for their second.
