The Wrap Up is our daily look at the day’s LFC news stories, on the day that Liverpool Chief Executive Office Ian Ayre announced he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of his contract. John Gibbons and Andy Heaton bring you their instant reaction to the news.
Before all that they talk about the news that UEFA aren’t going to punish Manchester United fans or Marouane Fellaini for their varying degrees of anti social behaviour. They reveal what Liverpool players have been up to at the weekend and they get stuck into the excellent Swiss Ramble’s interpretation of the latest set of accounts. You can read his report here.

Not your finest hour chaps (though I must stress I’m no longer in the city). Does it not occur to you that he may have resigned having been used as a human shield for the ticket price fiasco by FSG. If my experience in corporate structures is anything to go by, that’s far more likely. My guess is that he was hung out to dry having been promised full backing. It now suits both parties to divorce, Ayre having signed a CA. Just speculation, and not necessarily my finest hour, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s how it has played out. Alternatively he might just have had enough.
We might be able to do better, but he hasn’t done a bad job, has he? The club is in a sound financial position, H&G are history and we haven’t got a Beckenbauer/Rumenigge type figure at the club. Can you imagine Stevie or Carra navigating the nuances of boardroom politics?
