THE best nights are the unexpected ones. This is what you are in it for. Turn up at the best team in the country after getting beat at home last time out, and absolutely whallop them.
Joe Hart their best player and we still score four. Show them the way to go home. Show me the way to the pub. Up the Reds.
Simon Mignolet 4
Shit kicks, no saves. Shit kicks no saves. Shit kicks, no saves. Shit kicks, no saves.
Nathanial Clyne 8
Tough as yer ma’s boots.
Alberto Moreno 8
At one point he slid in to win it and then chased his own clearance down 50 yards and honest to god I wanted to neck him.
Martin Skrtel 10
Perfect centre half performance. Perfect. Always in the right place. Always commanding. Then he vollyed one in.
Dejan Lovren 8
Not as eye catching as his partner, but impressive all the same. Glad he listened to Robbo on the boots. Might have changed his career.
Lucas Leiva 9
Just absolutely love the gorgeous bastard.
James Milner 9
I don’t like to do the go the game v don’t go the game thing. But honestly you have to watch Milner in the flesh to appreciate him. To see how he sniffs danger before it’s even happened. To see how intelligent he is in everything he does. He calms his team mates when necessary too.
Emre Can 9
Terrific from the youngster. Classy on the ball and formidable without.
Adam Lallana 8
Terrific at keeping it when necessary. Key in getting us up the pitch.
Philippe Coutinho 10
He’s just well better than everyone else. Hope he’s alright.
Roberto Firmino 10
Best game in a red shirt. Was given a tough job and coped with it by dancing around grocks in blue shirts.
SUBS
Jordon Ibe 8
Exciting cameo. Looked a good bench, didn’t it?
Christian Benteke 7
Came on at the right time. Unlucky not to score. Although he looked 20 yards off side.
Kolo Toure 6
Came on and put himself right wing. What a fella.
I BELIEVE
we are ace.
Migs saved that fuck up by Milner but apart from that agree.
Fuck yea mignolet saved the Fuck up but other than that agree as well. What a day!!
Gibbo, you and Neil are amazing. Thanks again for this.
Little harsh on Mignolet, although I feel you … especialy after that flap straight to DeBruine (sp?).
Crazy thing was, the one pass he pulled off, when he pinged one to Clyne’s feet hugging the line, I just got the words, “at last” out, when Clyne rolled it back to Skrtel, who promptly gifted it Aguero. Blink again and it’s 3-1. *sigh*
(Edit: okay, ping in a sentence about Simon’s passing doesn’t work.)
Mignolet was just fine. Not great. Just fine. 4 is harsh.
I sense that rating was YTD m8
Bit harsh on Mings. One bad kick – ok it led to their goal – and one good save to rescue us after Milner dreadful back pass straight to Sterling.
That was Skrtel’s kick, but he was 10 and Mig 4 apparently
Bloody love Albie Moreno. Look at his little face. Love him.
Third goal was absolute magic. Bobby F walking the ball in, picture perfect passing. Sweet crescendo with the Skrtel finish!!! Show them the way to go home! Up the Reds baby!!!
Still stunned. Not a bad week uncle from grampy. PS bit harsh on the keeper and too kind to Milner. Plus I’m adopting Coutinho. Bet he’s nice to his dad.
Mignolet at a 4 is harsh. 7 for me. Kept us in it at 3-1. 2 for them is a different game. Would still look to upgrade him in the summer though.
Skrtl a 10? Not seen the game back but wast he the one who didn’t put enough on a down the line ball that led to the 3-1?
Seems a bit churlish to have my weekly pop at Mignolet after that fantastic performance, but he cost us a goal again, almost two. Might be the brightest fella in the world off the pitch, on it he’s a liability.
The rest of the team were superb. Lallana, Firmino, Moreno and Can had their best games in a red shirt. Coutinho may well have done too. Skrtl was ace, Lovren less so but ok. Clyne was positive and Milner solid. Lucas was, as usual, peerless. Have I missed anyone?
I think we can see the outline of a really strong team going forward. First choice midfield of Henderson, Lucas and Can with Milner and Allen as backup. Then a really strong front 6 of Coutinho, Firmino, Sturridge, Benteke, Lallana and Ibe. Plenty of room for rotation there. Upgrades needed for Mignolet and Lovren.
How did Mignolet “cost us a goal”?
“Skrtl was ace”
Agreed, apart from the goal he costs us :-)
10. I love to see 10. To see more than one 10? Pass me a steamboat
.
BELIEVE, CONFIDENCE, PASSION, ENJOYMENT, PLAN, EXECUTION~~
Ming: didn’t have much to do, he had all the time in th world to put more hair gel
Clyne: just love him…except for being caught out once, kept Stirling (and agent) in his pocket. How many blocks to crosses tonight?
Skert: Possibly the best game since he claimed back his position in the team 2 seasons ago against MU. What a strike…Stevie G would be proud of that.
Lovren: The team need him, fans need him, and he needs all of us.
Moreno: Give this boy a chance. Will be our next Riise (I am repeating this)
Lucas: yet another excellent match. …Will the team survive without him for the next match? (5 yellow cards)
Can: steady performance. Didn’t notice him (which is a good thing) till that backheel…No slow motion stepovers..
Milner: First time he really lead the team as captain…best match in.red…
Phil: played like Phil…get well soon pls
Lallana: Won’t be surprised if he continues to play this well consistently under Klopp.
Firmino: won’t be surprised if he keeps playing well as false 9, and keeps Big Ben.and Sturridge on the bench or as super subs…
Ibe: Impact sub….tonight, will start some.games for sure..
Bench: strong bench with Benteke and Sturridge there…imagine Hendo, Ings, Fleno, Sakho and Allen…
“Shit kicks, no saves.”
Except the save he made from when Milner made that daft back pass right?
LOL. Yeah with you on Moreno chasing his on clearance. Scream WTF are you doing proceeded by get back get back get back. He’s mental.
loved the look on the city player (Sagna I think) of “what you chasing that for” as he ran past him which then changed too “oh he may make that”. He’s a loon and I love him!!!
Nice one Gibbo. When you see it back on the telly you’ll see that Benteke was nothing like offside. And credit to Mignolet – to stop it going 3-2 for both closing down the Snakeboy and then saving from Aguero deserves it. Saying that, Lovren sprinting straight to the goal line, ready to block if Mignolet hadn’t got there was worth a 10. Hope he can start playing like that every game – did a lot of seeing the ball out today, none of the try – hard ballsy shite today, kept it simple and stood out for me.
Spot on regarding Lovren, Klopp is probably in his ear about this already,
Thankfully.
He’s been at the game, buzzing & probably had a few,
The odd strange score/quip should be viewed in this context,
The Moreno comment is ace, couldn’t believe it was him chasing it myself.
This. This is the whole point. No replay, Sky, Martin Tyler, whatever. Instead, how it was perceived at the game.
WTRWWAFW
you confused Lovren with The Mig.
Thought Lovren was dreadful as usual and was only spared by his brilliant partner Skrtel, while Mignolet had at least one great save.
how the fuck was Lovren dreadful??? did you see the score? did he have nothing to do with that? Fairs fair the lad has not been great but he was good today. Some fucking fans always need someone to slaughter and something to moan about.
Exactly. If we’d never seen Lovren play for us before City we’d be over-the-fucking-moon. He was rock solid, no nonsense. AND he was behind Mignolet after Milner’s backpass had let Aguero in. If the Ming hadn’t reached it, it still wouldn’t have gone in. Give the lad a chance ffsakes – we need a strong, confident Lovren, and he deserves credit foir today whatever his past performances.
Everyone a 10, we. thrashed them.
Aguero scores goals we limited him to 1, and put 4 last them.
If you’re looking at faults in that performance, you’re doing this football thing wrong. Let klopp worry about improving on that, we should all just be buzzing after that.
This.
Damn, thought I had Gravatar figured out so it wouldn’t show up here. Anyone know how to use different images for different blogs?
Good ratings them.
Ta Bob.
I’m not me I’m Lisa.
Only at the weekends?
Used to have SAS, now we have LFC – Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho (someone posted this elsewhere)
4 for the Ming. For fucks sake . Bad wool comment and if it came from some beaut from Norway the Rattle elite would be up in arms. Just goes to show yer. As Strummer said, it’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re at
Once a wool…
Sorry to break this to you but Simon Mignolet is not very good at football.
As others have said, bit hard on Migs, saved Milner’s blushes and could do nothing about Aguero’s excellent strike. I thought Lovren pulled an ace out of the hat tonight, best performance in Red, and deserves his plaudits today. Otherwise I agree.
The best performance so far under Klopp. Can looks a lot better than last outing. Milner looks good on the right flank (dont feel he is good at the center). attacking wise, reminds me during those sas days – movement, winning ball back and suarez-like aggresiveness. sktrel-lovren-lucas, calm and collected. 5 stars.
All subjective but….harsh on migs, skrtel and milner with made big mistakes and as good as Firmono was, he should have had had 1 or 2 more. That aside we were great. Obvs Countino was amazing, Lallana was nearly as breath taking. Midfield outstanding ;)
This never fails to make me laugh, up the Reds
I bet the Jurgenmeister has a goalkeeper he fancies filed away, so for the time being let us just hope Mings appreciates and enjoys what is going to be the pinnacle of his career. I don’t mean that as an condemnation, he just reminds me of the butcher in “Fargo.”
You mean the one that looks like a Norwegian full back???
Apt comparison. Neither quite knows what’s going on. If the defence can play like that every week, though, Simon might prove to be the best worst keeper in the EPL. But now we have a manager to be proud of, happy days are here again. No more sniggers from mid-table denizens.
58 minutes (roughly) lovren chases a ball down in the corner, Aguero behind him. Lovren’s going win it but all I keep thinking is he’ll attempt some Brazilian type turn, fuck it up and we’re in the shit……..he kicked it as hard and high as he could and then set up for the throw…….at that point never heard so many people praise his game. That’s the Lovren we all want and was pleased as fuck for him.
100% agreed m8.
Why 4 for Mignolet, they ask. Because of the stupid fucking pass to Clyne that put the team in trouble two minutes before half-time and because he’s been making that stupid pass for two seasons now. The man’s a liability. Also his positioning for the goal was terrible. Watch it back. The great thing about Lovren’s covering run, was that he got to the line (ace) then mimes a spectacular diving header at a ball that’s in Mignolet’s hands (Lovren). Still a vast improvement on West Ham, so credit to him. He did far more right than wrong, but he gives me the fear…..
Stupid pass to Clyne who had space to control the ball to his feet and pick an un rushed pass to skrtel?
Yes. Stupid pass because Clyne was surrounded by onrushing City players and there were two minutes to half time. He does this every week. No awareness, no game-management skills, constantly playing his team mates into trouble. Klopp said as much after the game in a more coded fashion.
I think you need to adjust your tinfoil hat because Klopp never said or alluded to any such thing. Pathetic from you, as usual.
I’ve no idea who you are mate, so you can skip the ‘as usual’. Klopp mentioned the ball being passed back to ‘Simon’, then, defending the keeper said ‘who is a good footballer’. Read between the lines and watch Klopp’s reaction to the goal. Then see if Mignolet is still our keeper next season: no game intelligence. This is the man who rolled the ball out to Sakho when he could barely walk, remember.
Think the “bad positioning for the goal” isn’t fair. See if you can find the reverse angle on that goal because from that you can see just how much of the goal Aguero had to aim at.
harsh on mig i think if hes so bad why klopp not changing up
I’ve watched Milner in the flesh and he’s been garb. That through ball for Sterling he played would have been handy if he was playing for us last season. About 7/10 equal to the number on his back.
Everyone else other than him and the cat is fucking sound. Scenes when we win something (hopefully this shit league) with one and/or both of those center halves. And people bang on about Djimi Traore winning the Champions League still.
Migs is not the keeper for this team. He just isn’t. But he did his job and made 2 good saves 2nd half so he deserves a 7. Everyone else, including Lovren, is at least an 8. Firmino should be a 9 if he scores the hat trick his overall play merited. Klopp (and his backroom boys) get a 10.
& what about when Mings screamed off his line to clear Sterling’s run outside the 18 yard box…?Think you were watching a different game? The lads trying, hes just insecure
Loved the way Migs played sweeper to rush out and clear the ball towards the end of the second half. Good pro active keeping.
His save from aguero was quality.
The only keeper who cost their team a goal was Hart. His pass to sanga was way to lofted and gave coutinhio time to get back and dispossess.
In short the 4 rating is a prime example of confirmation bias.
But who cares? The only 4 that matters is the one in the scoreline!!!
Completely unrelated, but I love your avatar. My favourite thing Rafa ever did.
Three goals I the first half against Man City away without a recognised centre forward – outstanding performance!!! Up the Reds
Was offered a ticket for this match, but I couldn’t make it because of work commitments. When I checked the score at HT I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Anyone who saw me punching the air behind the decks after Skrtel’s goal came up on the text alerts must’ve thought I REALLY love Desmond Dekker.
My favourite thing about this win is it shows the benefits of Klopp having two weeks to work with Bobby & Phil. Let’s hope Dunga forgot to pay his cable bill and missed the game. Imagine how good they can be. Feel a bit sorry for Ings & Gomez missing all the fun. Meanwhile Hendo and Flanno are licking their lips, pounding out the hours in the gym waiting to get a chance.
MUST MUST MUST follow it up on Sunday though.
Gibbons, you don’t get to ruin the day with your facetious and pathetic weekly moan about Mignolet. The man did nothing wrong today, he DID make several saves (one crucial), and he actually did OK with his distribution. Heck, he made one pinpoint kick to Clyne who passed it to Skrtel who then gave the ball away to Aguero for City’s only goal. Sure, he needs to be replaced, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t good enough on the day, he sure as fuck wasn’t “shit”, and you’re just being petty making such ridiculous statements.
Chill, la.
No, I won’t. It was petty and lame, plus I pay for this shit. Time to up your standards TAW, because you guys have been losing the plot for some time now.
How do we “up our standards” Aaron?
Nah, not my job to tell you what to do. That’s what I pay you for. Have a look around at some of your competition, that’d be a good start.
Look all the time, believe what we are doing is better. Tell me different with some constructive feedback and I might take it on board. At the moment all I’ve got is “shit”, “losing the plot” an indication you disagreed with a rating and a non-specific reference to our “competition”. Not a lot I can do with that. Feel free to email me should you change your mind on offering any specifics: [email protected]
By agreeing with Aaron, I reckon :-)
Yep. He’s cancelled his subscription now anyway. Guess it wasn’t for him.
I too wish to complain. Look at these shoes, I’ve only had em three weeks.
Chill out Aaron ffs, it’s a quick full time player rating after a high octane fantastic unexpected result away to city, you don’t have to agree but what’s the point bitching ffs? And if your not happy with the shows the guys have asked for feedback so give them some if you have any, I fear though your just one of these miserable moaning twats who are never happy!! We thrashed city ffs!!!
Little Joey Allen is another “go the game” player. Was MOTM for Wales against Holland. Watch Klopp turn him into an absolute beast. I’d love it on so many levels, not least of which because it would be absolutely hilarious.
Moreno though…great going forward, great attitude and endeavour, provided good outlet etc. BUT absolutely woeful positional sense and may aswell have only one leg!
At one point, chasing back, decided to go corner flag side rather than goal side (obv never heard of showing the man out) and attempted to tackle the player by hooking with his left foot?! Forced Lovren to come over and cover and he then got squared up! That sort of nonsense from Moreno will cost goals. Someone on the coaching staff needs to show him some vids and start fining him for schoolboy errors asap!
Other than that, sound!
Oh and Aaron….Mignolet taking an extra touch that he didn’t need before that kick to Clyne, shut his options off and meant finding a RB, who was tight to the touchline and marked was his only out. So he had a hand in causing that goal by putting people under needless pressure, all because he needed an another touch to make sure the ball wouldn’t bite him
A great start – we can do brilliantly away: check out our return from a horrible list of away games so far. Twleve points, and one defeat only, to the Mancs, when BR decided on a wierd non-aggression pact.
Klopp has us heading back to the principles of 13/14. Pace and aggression up front, simplicity at the back. But we must work out how to win at home when opponents don’t come howling at us: early goals change matches. The next eight league games are inviting. Stay fit and we could be rising up the charts
I’d love to see Klopp working on Markovic.
Me too. What were they thinking?
BR and Co. strike again… taxi for Aaron……..
Great game, great result. God this is going to be fun.
I agree with most of the ratings. I think Milner/Can deserve special mention for playing very tough roles in that formation. they were both awesome.
One thing i cant stop thinking about, and have been thinking about for the last few weeks, and now feel it even more strongly after that performance.
How well would Jamie Vardy complement/fit into that team/way of playing. I reckon we go all out to get him at Christmas. £20m should be enough. I know he is 28 but he has got at least 3 years of his turbo charged craziness in him. Closest we could get to Suarez..
You know you want to Herr Klopp.
Up the Reds.
