SUCH a frustrating day, especially with others dropping points. The Palace fans sang: “You must be sick of us.” They’re not wrong. Then we all got absolutely soaked. Brilliant. Maybe international breaks aren’t so bad after all.
Simon Mignolet: 4
If your USP is saving things, you need to save more. Did claim a couple of crosses, but want him coming for the second goal. Kicking and distribution in general was appalling.
Nathaniel Clyne: 7
The ex-Palace player dealt with the threats presented to him well, aside from the time he picked up a yellow. Some nice crossing, too.
Alberto Moreno: 6
Also didn’t get caught out too much, but not his best day on the ball.
Martin Skrtel: 6
Some good sliding interventions in the rain. Could have got us in trouble though when he tried to run through the centre like Alan Hansen.
Mamadou Sakho: 6
Oh no…. injury didn’t look good at all. Tried to carry on when he saw Dejan Lovren coming on. Not sure that helped.
Lucas Leiva: 7
Largely impressive. Think he prefers playing central in a three, though.
Emre Can: 5
For all the passing statistics that are thrown at me, I still can’t get over how often he passes to the other team under no pressure whatsoever. Terrible on the first goal.
Adam Lallana: 6
Neat and tidy, some lovely touches, without too much in terms of an end product. Might just copy and paste that.
Philippe Coutinho: 7
Took his goal really well. Looked the most likely second half, too. Great nutmeg.
Jordon Ibe: 7
Very bright early on when his team mates seemed half asleep. Faded slightly, but great to see him confident.
Christian Benteke: 4
Not a great day for the big Belgian. None of his chances were sitters, but you still want him burying one of them.
SUBS
Roberto Firmino: 5
Strangely subdued, and took an absolutely dreadful corner that might have drawn a smirk from Iago Aspas.
Divock Origi: 5
Couldn’t really get into it. Didn’t have long, like
Dejan Lovren: 6
Nothing mad. Which is a good start.

Mignolet 0 for the roll out to Sakho. The man’s an imposter.
Or as the late great Shanks would have it, a menace.
Couldn’t actually believe my eyes. If he had brains he’d be dangerous that fella.
Spot on, Paul. The man is a plank. If we’re to push on, we need a new keeper. We’ve seen enough of Mignolet to know he’s never going to be more than an occasionally decent shot-stopper.
Simon fuckin MONGOlet. How was he ever seen as suitable for a side which was being built to play “death by football”? More like death by heart attack every time he gets near the ball. Makes Calamity James look like Ray Clemence. Bogdan must be shit if he cant dislodge this twat
Just seen the 2nd goal again, how did he not just catch that in his chest, almost impossible to get any height on a punch from the angle he was going at it. Ridiculous
Why did we arrive home at 4am from Russia? What’s the thinking there? Play, sleep, travel, not rocket science that
Great ratings this week John. Spot on.
Can cushioning passes in the centre of our goal, Firmino vs. Scott Dann at a corner.
Vote for Anfield Wrap .Or Gunner-Glans Davies smirks.
10 for Klopp for calling out those who left early.
Big fat 0 for all those who left early after their second. Should have their tickets ripped up as they walk out. “Oooh, got to beat the traffic!” Yeah enjoy your cup of tea half an hour earlier than what you would have had it while making a show of us in front of Klopp, you dicks. If he didn’t realise Liverpool fans are for the most part gobshites he does after today.
I’m a fan but 5 for Clyne from me. Stood Bolasie up well all game then ruined it with that ridiculous shot at the end (which only half the ground saw luckily for him).
Klopp spot on. I thought Moreno was woeful, just don’t get him at all. Mignolet is getting worse as time goes on, passing to Sakho who was injured & only just come back into the pitch was abysmal play. A keeper & left back urgently needed.
Yep, as I’ve posted elsewhere, no footballing intelligence whatsoever. Add Can to that list but he at least has potential and should make way for Henderson. That we don’t have rivals for Moreno and Mignolet is verging on the criminal.
funny to read this as I thought during the game that Moreno has all the physical attributes to make a top left back, his downfall however is it seems he is thick as fuck.
Thought Ibe needed pulling halfway through the 2nd half as he became woeful so a full on 7 is very kind to him, Lallana just flits in and out of games with out doing anything of particular note. ( and dont get me started on him ducking out of the header in front of goal!)
On the subject of a new left back, Robbie Brady anyone? Very solid and great left foot.
it really was an unnecessary loss.
Ming~ don’t know what else to say. “excellent shot stopper” badge alone will not be enough to be out number 1. Maybe time.to give Bogdan a run of matches?
Can ~ time to give him a break. maybe the not needs a rest. Hendo will be back soon. And Allen will not give away the ball cheaply. Allen can play with Lucas.
Ibe and Clyne ~ their combination is getting better and it is one bright spot for tonight.
Benteke ~ all of us know he can do better than this.He should have done better than this.
Phil/Lallana/Skirt/Sakho/Moreno/Lovren: Average
Klopp~ a good run has to end sometime/somehow. But no doubt he will get the team going again after the international break.
Yeah, Klopp’s great. He goes to 11.
Palace fan here, watched on TV. Fan of TAW
Didn’t think it was a great game, an ok performance from us. We benefitted hugely from some ropey defending and equally bad finishing.
Was looking forward to seeing Can as I rate him, but thought he looked off the pace today. The mistake for the goal was… bad.
Impressed with the Ibe/Clyne partnership. Biased but love Clyne, so rarely loses the ball in opp 1/3
Thought you looked best with neat interplay around the box, once the switch to lumping it in came it was easier for our CBs
Dont watch much Liverpool, but was shocked by Mignolet. Seems his skills are completely missmatched with the way the team plays. The 2 passes to Sakho… what’s your heart rate like in the Kop!
Anyway good luck for the season, would like to see you guys in the CL, especially at the expense of MU or Chelsea
Cheers for the comments, good to have sensible exchange of thoughts… I had v high hopes for Can but he is proving to be a weak link for me at the mo… there’s still time for him to develop but pressure is on in a Liverpool shirt now.
Don’t get Benteke. Dreadful today, a 1 at most. Contributed nothing and made little effort.
Sorry but that’s rubbish and smacks of a Radio Merseyside post-match phone in reaction. Didn’t have a good game but won nearly all his headers and contributed quite a lot first half with a couple of great turns on the edge of their box. Occupies 2 defenders for the goal and his run makes space for Couts at the far post. Should’ve scored that header though and why he didn’t shoot after running from our half I’m not sure. Deserved at least 5.
I have stopped listening to Radio Merseyside post match, if I want to hear inane moaning I listen to the wife.
Benteke was poor today in terms of finishing and lack of movement, but he needs people around him for him to be effective. Klopp will either make players to support him properly or get players in who will.
As for those who left early – don’t bother coming back, you’re not wanted.
More mystery bonus points for Coutinho
That’ll be the goal
Aye there was that. Bar the goal though I felt his overall contribution wasn’t at the level you’d hope for someone with world class potential, as has been the case more often than not this season.
It sounds silly after his recent goals, but we need him to reach his level on a more consistent basis.
But overall everyone was below their normal level. A round trip to Russia probably played a part in that. Maybe the manager needs to look at his decision to bring everyone on that trip. Rousing comments about the next game being the most important is all well and good until your team looks off the pace and mentally jaded in the next game.
No, fair enough. Agree with all of that.
Moreno the failed winger was poor again, so was Can. A dominant keeper is needed ASAP. I thought the front 4 were good enough to beat Palace but finishing is the huge problem there. Can’t rely on Coutinho too much as he goes missing or fails to “click” in some games. Hope Pato rumours are true
Too many touches by the piano carriers in the middle of the park and down the flanks. We’re simply not moving the ball anywhere near quick enough to be effective. But Klopp will already mnow this.
Can and Moreno are very promising young players and will get better with time however both are like the proverbial head strong puppy dog that gets constantly rapped on the nose until it obeys. But Klopp will already know this too. Bentekes movement was generally good however his understandable frustration told when not receiving prompt balls into feet and not being able to bring the pianists into the game around the danger zone (edge of the box) When a quality X did eventually arrive he was too close to the goal and unable to get a run on the ball to gain the height to score the goal. But generally we’ve not got the team playing to his strengths yet. This will also come with time and some new personnel. Klopp will be aware of this.
And finally great shout by Jurgen when he was not too preoccupied to notice the behaviour of some so called fans. What does this tell us and the lessons learned in month 1 ? It is that if Klopp doesn’t know everything he knows enough to help sort this ailed club to better health both on and off the pitch.
How many games does Joe Allen have to be away before we start clamoring for him?
Just a joke, of course, except I’d rather have had him shoring things up in the midfield. Can just does my head in. Still think he is a better centre back than midfielder, but only in a three. So.
I’m still pissed about the Everton goal, and it feels more and more like he is an individual error waiting to happen. Bit like Lovren, except Lovren occasionally does tidy things, whereas Can occasionally does brilliant things. But still.
All in all, though, it felt like the clear result of bringing a strong side to the middle of Russia and back a few days before the game.
Until someone learns to stand on the far post for set pieces than everyone gets a 0 for me… I feel like we get beat every other week on that same effing set-piece. FFS it’s day one shit. Does my head in.
Emre is something of an enigma – the most stylish LOOKING player in the squad , but when you analyse what he actually does – lots of unforced errors , unnecessary step-overs and VERY poor decision making in his own box – several goals conceded as a consequence this season.
He’s still young so experience will help fix these traits, but preferably not in our first team ?
If you can’t stay the full 90, dont buy a ticket.
Simple is….BR wasted a fortune. Mignolet is not good enough. Moreno has had time; smashing at some offensive play, miserable at defending. Can is like a group of five yr olds chasing a ball thinking they are playing football. We have no one who can score consistently from midfield, I mean no one. I feel for Klopp but surely there is a sprong cleaning exercise required. Oh and one last thing..Mignolet still hasn’t a clue.
Coutinho has 4 in 11 this season – that’s pretty consistent from midfield.
monkeybone, we all appreciate your effort to put the blame safely on Rodgers, but it doesn’t help when you specifically list the players he didn’t ask for.
Rodgers came in talking endlessly about a sweeper keeper. Obviously had words with Reina, but Mignolet was not what he had in mind. Tried repeatedly to get Vorm – not the greatest, but at least he can kick a ball and keep it on the pitch.
Rodgers wanted Bertrand, the lad who made PFA Team of the Year, but like Vorm (and Williams) was rejected for being over 25 years old. Because you always want your defenders at a tender age. Moreno has potential, and we have the joy of watching him struggle to achieve it.
Emre Can was another committee pick where Rodgers asked for Eriksen (via James Pearce). In fact, Can was the reason Bayern shut down the deal for Shaqiri. Telling that Rodgers put him as a ball playing centre back. Yet to see him play better in any other position.
Klopp has broad shoulders, he can handle some responsibility for the loss. Especially as the team was clearly tired after travelling to the middle of Russia and back. That doesn’t make him a rubbish manager, it just means we need a bit of patience – something that some “supporters” have been clearly lacking.
Sounds like we should get Brendan back as Head Scout!!!
