People that are not racists can say racist things.
Nobody’s claiming otherwise, Patrick. The outcry is over the lack of evidence (or the fact that nothing compelling has been released to the public) and if so, that it was even a racist thing to say.
What happens if what they say is not intentionally racist and is simply a response to a disgusting, derogatory attack by an individual? Things are not simple in the world of alleged racist comment.
Really enjoyed this show — it was the perfect tonic after a dismal, gut-wrenching day like yesterday.
In regards to LFC players being criticized for wearing the Luis Suarez training shirts, I think the people pointing fingers need to realize that LFC players aren’t supporting racism or blindly defending Suarez — they’re protesting the injustice of the penalty that has been handed down from the FA.
Firstly, there are far too many people on these podcasts. I can’t think of any other broadcast, on the radio, which has so many contributors – there’s no need for it.
Secondly, contributors speculating on what Evra said, never mind what Suarez said, is a total waste of time.
Finally, you need to stop perpetuating this conspiracy theory that everyone is against us. So-called Reds attempting to character assassinate the members of the FA’s disciplinary panel serves no purpose whatsoever. So what of the connection between Smith and Ferguson? There will be many connections within the relatively incestuous world of football. It does not follow that there is an agenda against us.
In addition to this, references to the colour of skin of the FA’s disciplinary panel is a red herring. There are people patting themselves on the back thinking they’ve uncovered a great anomaly in stating that the panel are all white – so what? Let’s take that very tenuous principle and apply it to a few other areas. Should all refs be former players? Should only black or asian people decide on something which may or may not be racism? Should any investigation into illegal betting on football matches only be managed by members of the nearest Ladbroke’s. It’s a silly argument and it needs to be dropped.
This issue is a test to all Reds. It is a test of our ability to make reasoned judgements on topics of great sensitivity – and topics, in some cases, which make some Reds extremely uncomfortable.
The club hasn’t handled this well. We are being outmaneuvered by the FA and by other clubs. Proving how good a Red you are does not mean supporting the club at every opportunity.
Sadly attention to real racism get diluted with so much misconstrued racism about. The victims of it usually get socially and professionally executed. I was deemed a racist by a few emotionally unstable pitiful PC brigaders in the local. Yes, I dared have an opinion about my taxes and social handouts in relation to recent levels of immigration. To this day those PC look upon me like I’m some screaming racist fascist bigot that spends his summers drunk charging around the towns & city’s of England wrapped in the Union Jack or George Cross. No doubt the same PCers will rear their heads in attention to Suarez and vilify him as required.
As for the moronic inconsistent forgetful PFA boss – 1994 > England born Stuart Pearce is alleged to have racially abused Paul Ince. PFA chief Gordon Taylor’s response – “in the heat of the moment…Stuart regrets what he said, and he’ll be ringing Paul to apologise. Hopefully that will be the end of it.”
2002 > English born John Mackie admits to racial abuse of Sheffield United’s Carl Asaba. PFA chief Gordon Taylor’s response – “Obviously we were very concerned about the comments that were made but it’s to John Mackie’s credit that he has subsequIently reacted in this way and apologised. We would expect Carl Asaba to accept that apology, which was unreserved, and do not feel there is any reason for the FA to take any action in this case.”
2011 > English born John Terry is alledged to have racially abused Anton Ferdinand. PFA chief Gordon Taylor’s response – No comment to date.
2011 > Alleged racism between non English born Patrice Evra and Louis Suarez. PFA chief Gordon Taylor’s response – Taylor suggests it was time for Suarez to accept the Football Association’s verdict & charge, and hit out at the claim that the terms used by Suarez (negrito – my black friend) towards Evra would be deemed non racist mother tongue in South America. When it comes to banter between players, I think it is pretty clear to make reference to somebody’s nationality, or the colour of their skin, is wrong regardless of where the player has come from in the world. In contrast no Taylor comment or FA charge has yet to be made against Evra for instigation and his alleged derogatory racist tongue in the first place.
2011 > Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association, has called on the Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, to resign following his comments on racism in football. Blatter suggested any race-related incidents during games should be if they could be settled by a handshake on the field.
I really enjoyed this episode of the podcast. I’d also like to say I really like the way the podcast team has so many members, it allows for real diversitiy of opinion instead of the usual blowing smoke up each others arses which is common in so many podcasts.
Suarez has been made an example of, he used a term which is common in south America because the two players were bantering in spanish. Suarez’s Grandad is black….so it’s highly unlikely he’s a racist. The FA state they do not believe Suarez to be racist. Evra said it too. So what’s the fuss about? This is more about the FA slapping Liverpool down and sending a message to Blatter than it is about Racism.
I’m a black Liverpool fan, and I have been enraged every time the FA has failed to do anything meaningful about Racism. Now they finally do something and it’s this half cocked Bullshit of punishing the 1st person they can find. Contemptible Suarez should be completely exonerated.
The FA have efficiently investigated & charging LFC since the Suarez investigation sham.
Today Dec 28th another ban and fine for Suarez and fine for the club after the Fulham game.
Meanwhile on Mars there’s still nothing against Terry with the FA’s own rules against alleged racism in mind. That’s aside from any laws & charges that might be applied by the crown.
Meanwhile on Saturn still nothing towards Evra for his alleged (even admitted if some reading is correct) part in the Suarez incident or his alleged questioning the ref’s booking being because he is blk.
