Everyone is fuming. It doesn’t really bear much explanation than that

I’m increasingly doubtful we’ll get any DoF or any manager like Klopp with proven pedigree, it will just be another puppet, a sideway step like Frank De Boer (who’s winning leagues at a country Scott McLaren won a league in), just so FSG can continue with this fixation on buying young potential, trying to turn mud into diamond dusts
It’s basically Purslow playing real life FM again, but by committee
Great listen that and excellent point about successive managers getting second and then being burned out by the effort.
Regarding FSG and Soccornomics.
It’s a load of bollocks so is the idea that our fan base will accept this, it’s not in our DNA as supporters, we like iconic managers that run the club. The trinity of supporters players and manager does not include a DOF. If thats what FSG want then they are fucked or need to be.
FSG need to realise you cannot turn on the twelfth man like a tap and hope it will rescue you when you ask. In the same way you cannot expect Lambert to score as many goals and to sell the same number of shirts as Torres all because they ware the Liverpool No 9.
For a group obsessed by money and Soccornomics FSG are slow learners, spend money on boss strikers score loads of goals and sell loads of shirts and challenge for honours on one hand or buy a load of expensive potential (but not strikers) no goals no trophy no shirt sales and more managers payouts on the other, well obviously we will take the failure everytime.
I won’t be buying any new NB shirts etc for the kids until FSG come out and put their money on the table, 51 goals is pittyful and yet they want money upfront to entertain the season ticket holders (fortunately I am not one) because if I was I would want to send it recorded delivery to John Henry with a big Fuck you written across it. I would of course miss out on all those great European nights we are not going to have and all those quality players we identified wearing the kits of rival teams and of course I will miss out on chanting the name of the new DOF.
I know FSG worship the business model of Arsenal but if that includes the odd 8-2 or 6-0 defeat go shove it up your Arsenal because even they realised (after 9 years of youth development and no trophys) that you need quality players which is why they bought Sanchez are in the FA Cup final in the CL again and did not loose
6-1 against Stoke 6-1 against Stoke 6-1 against Stoke
Did Brendan look so broken yesterday because he knows he can’t fix this with the way the club is currently run?
That’s what it’s starting to feel like.
We need to see big moves very soon and that’s Brendan’s position and players coming in. If they sack Brendan we need to see an Ancelotti or a Klopp and they need to be given a lot of money to spend.
Otherwise, what’s the point?
Wasn’t it Rodgers that challenged FSG on the DoF matter, and if so – would we see a DoF with Klopp/other managers? If so does this rid us of this infamously poor committee that came about from the compromise FSG made to get Rodgers at the helm
Made up with this. This podcast echos my sentiments over the past 18 months. This business model does not work and it amazes me that the astute businessmen in charge of our club have not yet realised this. When we sold Suarez we HAD to buy 2, World Class, Quality, Well known, Proven goalscorers. A – For the commercial aspect. And B – To maintain the “we’re going to out score you” mentality.
Very depressing. Completely understand the fuming going on.
Going in to this game, I thought Rodgers would be safe, almost regardless of result, but that was based on an assumption that we would be see a battling performance from Liverpool for the final game of the season.
Sometimes whatever the pros and cons, whatever the mitigation provided by injuries, missed transfer targets etc., the manager just has to carry the can. Not always because they are responsible for all the problems, but because it is the easiest thing to do that can quickly change the pattern of events and arrest a downward slide.
I think it is a little unrealistic to be screaming about the fact that 24 hours after the game FSG haven’t acted yet. They won’t have been expecting this capitulation and will be reviewing their position in the light of this result. FSG have sacked two managers at Liverpool and a couple at the Red Sox in recent years. They have acted pretty quickly when they have done this and they are not going to leave Brendan dangling for long, whichever way it goes. The comparison with West Ham here is false, because Alladyce is at the end of his contract and it has been clear for a while that it wasn’t going to be renewed.
Serious question here – If we’d had Reina and Agger in that side, do we lose 6-1?
Hyperthetical question obviously but I feel there’s no way we would’ve been embarrassed like that, we lack leadership and we lost two great leaders and players and replaced with substandard in my opinion.
No idea. But Reina stopped making saves and Agger admitted the pace of the Premier League was too much for him.
He stopped making saves under kenny when he realised there was no champions league.
Nothing personal against Rodgers but he should go. Out of his depth. He’s a decent mid – table manager. And don’t come back with the ‘he nearly won the league bollocks ‘.
Usual myth making here from TAW. Reina did not stop making saves, well not in front of me and the thousands at the match. He had a poor spell by his standards but recovered well. Twice the keeper Mingolet will ever be. As for Agger he revised his reasons claiming in not too heavily disguised language that Rodgers hsd lied to him. Something that Reina and Downing also complaned of.
Not true, he definitely did stop making saves. Anything on target and he was struggling to even get a hand on it.
The moment people knew he was probably done for us was that charge out against City at the Etihad that allowed Aguero to score
That season under Kenny we didn’t concede many shots on our goal but too many of them resulted in goals, far more than average. There’s a reason for that
Bascombe reporting Rodgers believes he is safe and the forthcoming meeting with none other than FSG President Mike Gordon will not be regarding the managers position.
sorry guys, terrible podcast. whining for the sake of it, just making up stuff, making out you know how the business of running a football club should work.
Unusually it was just as poor as the AI podcasts which are real whinge marathons.
There may be frustrations and there may be things wrong but just going at it the way you did makes it hard to listen to. Unobjective, massive assumptions just rubbish.
You may not know who Mike Gordon is but that makes NO difference and certainly isn’t what is wrong.
Just buy some expensive players – well the owners have shown they have been willing to do so but the people they trust to make the footballing decisions have been a pile of poo including King Kenny.
Other players won’t come and it’s nothing to do with money. The trouble is because we’re not doing well you’re basically demanding a sugar daddy but you’re not honest enough to admit it.
If you can’t progress buying a mix of young and lesser known talents, then why did Dortmund manage to do it??
You also missed some really basic stuff about setup and why we are easy to beat and the fact that teams sussed us out since Swansea, and how Rodgers seems blissfully unaware of this fact as he piddles about moving Can around.
And most importantly the fact regarding Rodgers position of how is he supposed to lead the txfer window, pre-season and the start of next season with such a poor final 10 game stretch and overall poor season and clear problems in the dressing room.
Maybe your regular listeners will like the moaning and whinging and basic making up stuff but I think it’s poor and I’m not interested in giving it my time.
Sorry, I know it’s free but that’s not an excuse.
Sound. What exactly are you expecting after Liverpool lose 6-1 to Stoke City? Going to the match hasn’t exactly been a barrel of laughs lately and this was the biggest defeat Liverpool have suffered in a lifetime. It’s not good enough and was called as such. Do you expect a love in?
No one is demanding a sugar daddy, either. More that Liverpool actually act like what they are – the eighth richest club in the world apparently.
That whole thing is absolutely fucking baffling! You’ve lost your marbles mate!! The podcast was exactly what i was expecting, 4 huge fans of this club absolutely fuming at one of the worst results this club has ever seen!! I couldn’t agree more with it personally and if there isn’t blood after this then the owners really aren’t suitable for this club and need to sell us to someone who is.
Fucks sake mate, what were you expecting? It’s a bunch of lads talking about the worst result in 52 years and it free ffs
The Glazers showed more initiative with David Moyes and then in the transfer market. The Glazers.
Those parasites actually runs their football club with more competence than ours
The Glazers have the most valuable sports team (Forbes) in the world to maintain. They also have the 2nd largest revenue in football with which to fund any changes. Plenty of ManU fans regard them as parasites, but the Glazers are certainly not idiots.
ManU were never going to drop out of the top 4 for long, and any comparison between ourselves and ManU needs to acknowledge certain financial realities.
Difference in financial strength has no relevance whatsoever. It’s about driving to improve and be successful, and having actions that reflect that
We are the 8th richest club in the world, we are a valuable asset as well. But we are in danger of falling in with the pack of mediocrity and losing even some global support
Yet we have uninterested owners who don’t even turn up, slow to react to things, having club structures in place that are dysfunctional. This has nothing to do with money, it’s about wanting to be successful and driving for that, FSG just aren’t interested
Unless FSG change their strategy the whole thing’s fucked.
One note; I’ve been listening the these podcasts for the last few seasons now and you’ve always said (whether it be players or managers) you’ve got to have someone lined up as a replacement before you get rid of or sell anyone. No one even mentioned anyone being lined up.
I whole heartedly agree with getting rid of Rodgers if we have someone better lined to replace him but doesn’t sound like we do. And who would replace him? Gary Monk? Just not gonna happen. Cannot see Klopp coming either.
Reports are saying FSG will continue with Brendan for at least a few more months. Either they want and know they can get Klopp after his 6 month sabbatical or they haven’t got a fucking clue. Could be either to be honest.
Shit times ahead I feel.
It is possible that FSG want to line up Klopp before pushing Rodgers out. Klopp has stated that he wants to focus on the Dortmund season to the end – 30th May last game. Then they approach Klopp. Until then play nice with Rodgers…
However, I don’t think Klopp actually wants to come. I don’t buy into his 6 month sabbatical, if he wanted to be with the reds. The way things are unfolding for Rodgers, all he would have to do is keep mum and wait for an approach from FSG. Why make the sabbatical statement?
Could it be that his first few preferences for a new job are taken – be that Madrid, Arsenal, United, City?
Regardless of Klopp, think Brendan should have walked on his own…
New subscriber, excellent show as always gentlemen. As a footie (Soccer) fan living in LA, I’m looking forward to seeing Gerrard in person, obviously as I am a Liverpool fan. Something interesting that MLS does here in the States is called the Designated Player “The Beckham” Rule. It allows every team to have 3 high quality “star” players who would boost the team on and off the pitch.
With Gerrard leaving, why not adopt something similar? Spend top money on 2-3 quality players, then look for value elsewhere accordingly. Life is full of compromises – there is no reason why a youth-oriented policy, both from the Academy and signed from other clubs, cannot be merged with signing some established, world class players with brand name appeal.
Keep up the good work!

“Break his legs” – Seriously?
Obviously not.
Disappointing podcast!
I’ve listened too many, many of your highly impressive podcasts but this was a disappointing listen!
Sack the manager off the back of 1 result is daft. It wasn’t said in the heat of the moment it was repeated multiple times.
Every manager has lost in similar fashion, Fergie would have been sacked off your theory.
Come on TAW you’re better than that!
No doubt it was unforgivable, Rogers has to be reviewed but not because of that game. Rather due to a season of bad signings, bad tactics, bad motivation, bad in game changes, bad media interaction, bad player management and so on.
However, much of what was said is true!
From an admitted FSG fan as they brought a championship to Boston which we had waited a lifetime for. I feel like the criticism of them is unwarranted as they seem to have moved the club in the right direction in terms of closing the marketing gap with sponsorships and finally getting the Anfield renovation rolling. They are smart enough to realize the biggest money and best way to success is being involved in championships and the top competitions.
As for Rodgers the improvement that almost all players Rogers has brought in in there second season has been massive. He needs to be allowed an offseason to work with his massive haul of players that were brought in last season. If we don’t see massive improvement in Can, Lallana, Markovic and Lovren next season then we move on.
