One thing that hasn’t been commented on is the handholding of our players during set pieces. They seem to stand in a straight line and align themselves before the kick comes in. Dunno how much it’s contributed to our improved defense, but obviously it’s something they’ve been working on in training.
So much for Mario starting Sunday fellas: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/feb/20/mario-balotelli-blasted-brendan-rodgers-work-rate-liverpool
Was reading the same article in the Telegraph, no need for it, Mario gets enough unwarranted attention without captain and manager writing the negative headlines twice in as many days.
Dya ever think why there’s so much drama around Mario?? Perhaps it’s not just all down to the media. Mario tweeted “Stop drama now” but who created that drama that night? Don’t get me wrong I’m all too aware the media love a “Mario” story but it’s not like he keeps himself out of the spotlight. He’s not like he’s been this great, positive influence at Liverpool that we can all admire.
Now people are going overboard about him because he’s had a couple of decent sub appearances. I hope he does well in a red shirt but let’s just keep it all in perspective here and remind ourselves what really is going on.
Don’t agree there Michael. Mario’s behaviour has been low key from the day he signed for Liverpool. Even away from Anfield he’s done nothing to raise an eyebrow over, including ‘the retweet’. The penalty incident was nothing. Without the intervention of Sturridge & Gerrard it would hardly have been noticed. So, I don’t think Mario has created any drama. It’s all been created around him.
What do you mean by ‘let’s remind ourselves what’s really going on’? Can you remind me because I’m not sure what is going on. All I know is he’s behaving and he’s won us the last 3 games where he’s come on and I’m gonna celebrate that. I’m gonna express my hope he can keep it up. What I’m not gonna do is say nothing and pretend it didn’t happen because it’s not been longer enough for you.
Rodger’s comments were both pathetic, ill timed and directed at the wrong audience. If he feels Mario needs a reminder to keep up the good work rate he showed on Thursday then he should have told Mario. Wherever the case, it’s not Mario’s fault.
Michael, I often wonder why there is so much drama around Mario as I really cannot see what the problem is, at best he is a bit eccentric at worst a normal (aleit rich) young man. I cannot recall anything that would warrant his media “bad boy” tag. sure he has been infuriating during his time at the club and I am certainly not going overboard on the back of a couple of good performances, so maybe you should keeep it all in perspective, this was a nothing incident unless you are so heavily influenced by the media.
I would be grateful if you would remind me about “what’s really going on”, I stand by my comments on the captain and manager, disappointing from both.
Strange decision to not talk about the penalty incident.
Love the show but a bit disappointed with that.
Haha, Did you expect them too? I’ve listened long enough to picture the scene before the podcast. Neil sends his agenda with the words ‘we’re not gonna mention the penalty incident at all’. I can see both sides. Although I knew it wouldn’t get a mention I hoped they’d break with protocol and talk about it. Everyone’s going on about this Eastender storyline but Liverpool fans are going on about the penalty incident. I know I shouldn’t get involved with it as it’s a nothing story but I can’t help it. Liverpool is our soap opera and that was the main talking point. At the same time when I see the hype over who killed Lucy Beale I find it wrong on so many levels. It’s tabloid stuff and should be avoided. Although I find it hard to not get swept up in the drama of it all, personally, I’m glad TAW podcasts don’t descend into sensationalism and this type of speculation.
Poor stuff from the manager, we know he’ll never stand up to the skipper even if it means rubbishing other players. I can only conclude that he feels his ‘tough love’ approach is delivering with Mario, so expect more of the same. Maybe its working, who knows? Doesn’t feel right though.
Woof! Really big game tomorrow, now!
Too right it is! Bid opportunity to close the gap the two points, after losing at Old Trafford I all but gave up on chasing down United but they are starting to look like the vulnerable team in the top four (despite playing poorly all season).
Listen to Rob in this pod then read my previous two posts. Great minds. Only one of us gets abuse for being right though.
Said gerrard & lucas were injured due to lack of rotation & that sakho & coutinho will be next. Boom, sakho injured, lovren in.
Brendan learnt under Mourinho who doesnt do rotation because he knows he’ll only ever be at a club 3 or 4 years. Runs teams into the ground extracting every bit if effort for success. Simeone & Klopp are the same but don’t have the resources chelsea and liverpool do. Dortmund look tired, hence their results. Atletico will follow suit next year or year after. If Brendan wants to be here long term & sustain success he needs to learn to rotate.
For what it’s worth robin I don’t think they needed to ‘sensationalise’ anything, just offer an opinion.
It was the main talking point of the match like it or not. There is also a bigger issue highlighted by it of who should be our next captain. Balotelli’s confidence/selfishness.
Plenty of intelligent conversation to be had without talking all the same hash the tabloids did.
Anyway another win here and another win at Southampton. WTRWWAW.
