Firstly WTF is Steve Graves?
Secondly I’m thinking of getting into window cleaning in the Wirral area….
did this last week really happen?
Woy, after 35 years of tried and trusted methods used everywhere from Malmo to the relegation zone and not many places inbetween, changes to the Diamond formation that Liverpool use so extensively? And wins comfortably albeit against a terrible Swiss side.
And then we play Villa with a predictably failing 2 man central midfield pair of Gerrard and Hendo thus limiting them both and having a very suspect midfield, lost a game and didn’t score – very much like Hodge normally does /did in the world cup.
Did that really happen?
Of course, Woy won’t call it a diamond and refers to the CMs as “wing halves” so he can claim to be that nouveau intellectual in player setup and formations rather than admitting he was rubbish and this was Liverpool’s successful setup.
“He has no pace”, “He doesnt need any”, “Ah he kinda does”
Classic.
John was kind of skirting towards the issue, but I don’t think he ever quite got to saying it clearly – throwing on a second striker isn’t the only way to give a lone striker support.
4-3-3 can work perfectly well against a packed defence, but you need Gerrard to be the only one sitting back. Henderson should have been pushing on much more, the wide players should have been getting in the box and the FB should have been going forward to fill the spaces they left. All of these things failing to happen is why Balotelli looked hopeless.
He didn’t have anyone to pass to or to receive short direct balls from. He didn’t have anyone around to help him do the things that he does. And given that he’s not Suarez, Messi or Ronaldo, he’s always likely to need a little bit of help, if only to distract defenders a bit more.
