Very close to giving POTY vote to StevieG but just couldn’t not give it to Luis for an incredible season of goals, assists, energy and sheer will to win from kick off to the final whistle…we are truly blessed to have this man in our team.
CALM Man went to StevieG as a consolation prize for his all round conduct in pressure situations, especially penalties. Let’s see how calm he is if he gets to lift that trophy in May?!
Breakthrough was another toughie but Hendo just about pips Flanno for me. Hendo is our unsung hero who not only covers every blade of grass but has improved his vision and technique no end. I would argue he is probably one of Brendan’s 1st names on the teamsheet each week and I’m gutted for the lad to miss most of the run in.
Young Player is Sterling – no arguments there. He deserves as many plaudits as Suarez this season for his strength, speed, and intelligence to play a number of different positions effectively and benefit the team. I know we’d never sell him but just imagine if someone like Real Madrid came knocking, how much would they have to bid in order to be taken seriously?
Goal of the season for me has to be Suarez’s header vs WBA. There are other wonderful goals to choose from but taking a ball at that speed on your head from the edge of the box and putting it in the top corner???? I would choose that as goal of the season full stop, not just Liverpool’s.
Game of the season has to be the City game. The others we dominated and were great champagne moments for the fans…but City really tested our title credentials (and my poor ticker!) and we’ll look back and hopefully say that’s where we mentally broke our title rivals. It’s worth mentioning the games vs West Ham, Fulham and Stoke away, Sunderland at home etc were similarly important for our own mental strength.
I didn’t vote in the music and book categories as I’m not qualified to do so!
Special mention to Brendan Rogers. He deserves Manager Of The Year for what he has achieved, regardless of which position we finish in. Liverpool FC is once again a major force to be reckoned with and long may he stay and continue his great work!!

Over the calender year player of the year had to be Suarez or Sterling. After last weekend, Stevie can have man of the year.
Fairly tough vote that. Difficult to decide what’s most important – the emotion provoked by an event or the sheer genius of it. All those goals and results were fantastic for different reasons and at different stages of our journey. Probably a good job there wasn’t a ‘pick all’ option. That CALM man of the year question was probably a harder question than – if you had to have one of your fingers cut off, which one would it be. At least you can narrow that down to two and even then deduce that your ring finger doesn’t do that much. They’re all on different levels so it’s difficult to compare. The leader on the pitch, the leader of the team and the leader of the club. All aspects are functioning well and all the leaders are handling it well. The whole club oozes calm, confidence and belief. They’re probably laughing at us fans about how emotionally shattered we are. So, I enjoyed the poll, took my mind off the intensity of thinking about those 4 games and made me step back and reflect on what a genuinely enjoyable season it’s been.
Book of the year is ‘And the Sun Shines Now’ by Adrian Tempany, by the way.
