The tactical formation i want to see tonight is 11 Reds sitting down and refusing to play in protest at the European Super League plans. If the ref’s whistle goes, all our players take off their LFC shirts to reveal anti-ESL slogans on their t-shirts underneath and then stage a 90 minute sit down protest in which they refuse to kick a ball, that would easily be our best, and most important, performance of the season, arguably of any season. The eyes of the world’s sporting media will be fixed on the game, this is the one golden opportunity the players have to show that they are wholly with the supporters and totally against the money-grabbing club owners in wanting to keep Liverpool FC where they belong, in the English Premier League. We play out the match normally, like nothing unusual is going on, then it makes the players look complicit in the whole deal. But if they refuse to play then we, as a club, could save ourselves and potentially emerge from this mess with some small modicum of credibility, instead of being (rightly) hated by fans of every other club for destroying the working (albeit imperfect) football pyramid that has served the game in this country for decades. If we did a sit down protest tonight and got docked points then so be it. We’re not going to win anything anyway, let’s look after our club and its supporters, send out a genuine protest, do the right thing and refuse to play. That’s the performance I want to see tonight. It is the most important game of the season.
