Liverpool return to Premier League action with a victory of Cardiff City by four goals to one, but despite dominating for the most part the scoreline isn’t a true reflection of proceedings and how the game could’ve turned out given a strange complacency around the Reds..
Joining Neil Atkinson for immediate reaction are Emily Dona, Stuart Wright and Paul Senior.
Neil, you always say we shouldn’t get complacent about winning 4-0,4-1 at home. Sounds like you are complacent about winning 4-1 at home.
At halftime my overriding feeling was the Reds were unacceptable because we could’ve had the result secured, but this was a bit myopic. Man City have wrecked everybody’s heads. It’s true their xG difference is pretty much record-setting. We imagine them sweeping the ball up the pitch & scoring a goal every 10 minutes, whereas the reality is they routinely have performances no better than this. 2-1 against Newcastle with Walker’s first & only goal from 30 yards? 3 points. 2-0 over Brighton? 3 points. Not saying we’re problem-free, but you’ve got to have some perspective. Top of the league.
