The Reds aren’t messing about. They said they would leave their bits until after the World Cup and now bits are being done. A bid of £62million has reportedly been made for Alisson Becker, the AS Roma ‘keeper who has been linked with Liverpool since as far back as January, and talks are now ongoing between the two clubs.
To react to that news and offer some insight into the deal, what it will take to get it over the line and what Alisson could bring to Anfield, John Gibbons is firstly joined by Goal.com’s Liverpool FC correspondent Neil Jones, and BT Sport’s European Football Show regular and Serie A expert James Horncastle.
Too good to be true?
Alisson for £62-66 million is a massive pill to swallow from a financial front for a GK.
Personally I still think we need to look into getting a new goal keeping coach.
I keep asking about the previous LFC goalkeepers under John Achterberg:
Reina – Spain’s keeper, previously No. 2 before joining LFC
Jones – Australia’s keeper, previously No. 1 before LFC
Gulasci – Hungary’s and Red Bull Leipzig’s keeper, previously No. 1 before LFC
Ward – Wales’ keeper, previously No. 2 before LFC
Mignolet – Belgium’s keeper, previously No. 2 before LFC
Bogdan – (Well, nevermind him)
Karius – Mainz’s keeper, previously No. 2 (behind Neuer) before LFC
Alisson current position is No. 1 with Brazil.
If we get Alisson I expect him to be world class and continue that way through this and next season at the very least, saving us minimum 10-15 points next season.
If Alisson fails, then should Klopp or Achterberg resign? Or should we ship off Alisson next summer?
Whatever happens this transfer window, I would still give Ward a chance in pre-season as #1.
Jones was never Australia’s #1.. 3 at best. Schwarzer-Kalac-Federini and now Ryan and Vukovic are ahead.
@Scott Thanks. Yes you’re right. Jones was 3rd best.
Doesn’t matter though, as Achterberg can turn gold into crap in no time.
I just hope Achterberg doesn’t turn Alisson into Migs next.
What is a matter with you. Shush now
