Before TAW’s crew are even back from Kiev, Liverpool FC have been very busy indeed. They have this evening announced the signing of midfielder Fabinho from AS Monaco for approximately £43m and started their summer business early.
Fabinho would appear to suit what Jürgen Klopp needs being both physically imposing and also having a ton of technical ability. He should slot in nicely.
To discuss this move we have Dan Austin, Ian Ryan and Josh Sexton, hosted by Neil Atkinson.
Dear Mr. Gutmann,
Never heard him mentioned once … any chance of a refund.
Looks a good’un.
Viera. Fernandinho mash-up?
… plus, the timing is great. We are all a bit deflated after the weekend. No games coming up to exorcise the ghosts of Kiev.
This gives us all a wee buzz.
When’s the first game?
Pity the Phil money wasn’t used to buy a keeper and striker last January. Reds are third seeds in next Champions league.
Good. That means the 1st and 2nd seeds will be shitting themselves…
One goal every four games.Five more players needed.Sell the dross,Lallana and Sturridge etc.
This is overly harsh on Lallana, he’s had a poor season this year primarily because it was so disjointed because of the repeated injuries but he was key for us last year and the midfield currently stands at Fabinho,Keita, Henderson, Milner, Gini and Oxlade-Chamberlain at some point before Christmas. You can also make an argument for giving Grujic a chance after a good loan helping Cardiff come up. Personally I’d like to see us learn from the mistake of not sending Danny Ward straight back to Huddersfield and seeing how he went week in, week out in the Premier League.
Back to the point in hand though. If you bin off Lallana, you are presumably going to also bin off Gini given his clear problems with consistency despite having quite a bit of game time.
So you then need another 1 or 2 players for the midfield 3 having already signed 2. This is before you even look at the front 3 or back 5. It’s logically not happening but even in the theoretical it shouldn’t because it’s too much change in that area of the pitch and both Lallana and Gini can still play roles for us next season.
A good old fashioned out the blue/where did that come from transfer which hopefully addresses the holding position in midfield. He can play rightback too, what’s not to like.
Hoping Fekir will see this and ask for Can’s squad number.
Brilliant signing! Absolutely superb! (Oh how I miss the days when we were in the market for renowned stars like Konchesky, Poulsen, Adam and Downing). Seriously, Fabinho is a top class centre-mid. Really chuffed with this.
On the ball lads great insight and so quick.
What a great signing, adds skill, steel, and height in front of the back four. This feels like part of Klopp’s learning curve, too, which is very heartening.
I just feel sorry for Guttman–the club show no consideration for him at all with these quiet, competent transfers!
‘Learning curve’? He’s just a replacement for Emre.
He’s much more defensive than Emre; Fabs is an honest-to-God DM, which–by all accounts–Klopp didn’t ‘believe’ in previously.
Can he play in goal?
We’ve got Salah, do do do do do do, oh Mane Mane, Bobby Firmino, and we’ve got FABINHO – genius to buy players that fit straight into songs!!
Please don’t call him Fabs
Looks surprisingly pragmatic for a romantic. Adds to lots of strengths and reduces some weaknesses. What’s not to like?
