Our first Gutter since the final.
Neil Atkinson hosts rather than Rob Gutmann who is preparing himself for the challenge to come.
We talk about Fabinho and what it tells us about Liverpool’s approach this window.
We then move through all the goalkeeper runners and riders. Alisson, Jan Oblak, Jack Butland and Jasper Cillessen so far. Could be more to come on that front as well. We try to work out the patterns of behaviour if there are any.
We chat through Nabil Fekir and Christian Pulisic too.
It’s an exciting summer.
Neil is joined by Adam Melia, Fuad Hasan and Rick McEvoy.
Any chance on getting the lowdown on Fabinho from a French journalist? Love those shows.
Haven’t seen any links, but if Buffon went to PSG, there’s no way they’re keeping both Areola & Trapp.
Buffon is 39? He’s not going anywhere for first team football.
joe hart is available if we want main stream coverage. its a mess. it will be our biggest signing this summer if the manager chooses to sign a new goalie
how about big edin as new option up top if he would buy into
Our biggest problem at the final was not scoring the 4 goals I and everyone I know predicted we would score. I thought we would win 4-3; others I know predicted we would win 4-1 or 4-2, but NONE of us thought it was going to be a low-scoring, tight game where 1 goal would be enough. That was a reasonable prediction because we have scored 3 and 4 in all of our big games. We cannot be so dependent upon one goalscorer for momentum. More attackers, please. That’s more important than the goalkeeper, though we need one of them, too, but not at the expense of quality in depth of attackers. Great show; I love listening.
If we assume the club are in some kind of panic mode to get a new and expensive goalie in after Karius messed up in one game, then the key question is where does this cash come from and what does it impact? If we think the rumour for Butland was true at 30m to compete with Karius and now its 80-100m for these other lads – that’s a Pulisic or Fekir sized hole suddenly appear in our budget…..all due to one, admittedly poor, game from the current GK.
How many would Jamie Vardy ( no me neither) score in this team? 20-25 league goals.
Our laughable CL final display highlighted TWO things that Klopp MUST address this summer, if he is to achieve anything tangible in the near future …
1. A keeper who isn’t a target of banter is a must … it’s beyond pathetic how long we’ve been dancing around the keeper position and ‘making do’ … If we are to ever be a serious team that can achieve serious targets then we NEED a top stopper.
2. We need some bloody half-decent back-up for the front three … Once again it’s comedy to see a team have arguably the best attack in Europe, but the players who will cover for injuries are barely championship standard. Our main ‘striker’ left the pitch injured … and we didn’t replace him with a striker … that’s how little our reserve scorers are thought of.
None of us can cope with another season where we leave the transfer window NEEDING more …. problems left unsolved. Klopp has to finally assemble a team that is READY NOW …
