John Gibbons dont kill my vibe!
Piss off Gibbo, stop being a Debby downer mate. We were 2-0 at halftime and it should have been 4. We were 5-0 up at 80, and it should have been 8 or 9. Yes it hurts to concede those two late goals, but don’t you try to rewrite the narrative mate, like your saying everyone else is doing. We were boss!
I have sympathy for Gibbo. And listen the WHOLE point of the Pink is to capture the immediate feeling – I don’t want these boys being disingenuous and if that’s the way he feels that’s the way he feels. The reality is that having just had Roma ripple Barca in similar circumstances OF COURSE there are nerves because we KNOW how important these final opportunities are. And yes taking Salah off for a Stoke is bonkers; shit or bust for a 5-0 or 6-0 to make the second leg irrelevant was way more important.
It has taken me a couple of hours to get my head right (not dissimilar to Andy H’s article) and if you’d put ME in a room I would have had a fume too. Gibbo cares / we all care.
But please remind ourselves we love TAW because of its authenticity. So back off pal.
Gibbo nails it. Great performance but don’t let them back in.
Thing is, if they’re one nil up with 80 to go, they know they’ve a massive chance.
And we’re now and to 11 players.
But equally, could go there and score a couple and it’s game over.
Would’ve taken 5-2 before a ball’s kicked though
Gibbo said that all Roma have to do now is do what they did against Barcelona and beat us 3 nil. It’s very hard to keep dipping into that well John and Roma are just not that good. We have just won the first leg of The European Cup Semi Final 5 goals to 2. YNWA!
My mood echoes that of Gibbo’s. I still think we will get to the final, but to give Roma hope again is disappointing. Yes, I’d have taken 5-2 before the start of the game, but not from us being 5-0 ahead. If it was 2-2 and we went on to win 5-2 it would feel different.
One away goal now means Roma need four, if it finished 5-0 they would have needed seven. Big difference.
Still, we’ll probably go there and win 4-1 and it’ll all be fine.
Jeez. What is the manager meant to do about a player twisting his knee making a tackle?! It happens. Serious negativity i didn’t need.
There’s a big difference between Roma vs Barca and Roma vs Liverpool.
When Roma lost 1:4 in Barca, the game was a lot more closer and there were 2 own-goals. Roma knew that they were much closer to Barca and had enough belief to beat them.
But at Anfield, look at the Roma players at full-time – they had the look of a team that knew that they were well beaten.
Conceding 5 goals in the manner they did – their defence was torn into shreds – will not give them much belief for the 2nd leg. It will be more of wishful thinking.
I bet that the Roma defenders will be shitting themselves when they see Salah, Firmino and Mane next week – it will bring them nightmares of that bad night at Anfield.
Liverpool will march into Kiev…toward #6
Gibbo is SPOT ON here, and right be annoyed and cautious. This 5-2 scoreline is basically a glorified 2-0 lead … IF … Roma get to 2-0 up in the second leg, they are ONE goal away from going through. The exact situation they would face if we had won 2-0. In 10 minutes we have gone from being in a position to send the bloody youth team over and cruise to the final, to facing a tense and dangerous second leg in a very hostile stadium.
We were INCREDIBLE for a good chunk of that … but Roma showed enough either side of our 5 goals to prove this is NOT over yet … and that’s so typical of us. This front 3 can achieve anything … but what’s behind them and waiting on the bench is not enough.
Behind them we have hendo, winjidulum and milner who played brilliantly. They may score there two but they still have to stop us from getting one or two ourselves.
No part of me is negative after that. We won a champions league semi 5-2. Have to take Salah off because we’re down to bare bones. Gini was fucking incredible, Pen was unlucky because Karius makes that save if Miller can pull his arm back into his body, Lovren played great bar one mistake. I’ll take that all day over Matip getting bodied or Gomez losing his man and the ball everything the balls in the air. We’re going to Kiev bar lightning striking twice. And they have to score 3 while keeping us out for 90. Not a chance
Agreed.
Karius saves it.
Brilliant Pink fellas! I watched the match on a 3 hour delay on my own and had all your arguments with myself after the game. Listening to this made me feel better, knowing I would have been happy with 12-9 before kick off and equally disappointed conceding two goals! But what I am certain of is I can not wait until next week!!!!
Luis Suarez has one goal in this years CL. 1 goal. Messi has six. Our front three has scored 28 goals. Not saying we are better then Barca, but in the CL our attack has been much better. We will put this 0 goals conceded at home record to the test.
Surely we’ll score at least one at Roma. Then they’ll need four goals.
Agreed.
This will be a test for our attack and their defence.
If we are given a couple of chances you fancy us.
Thing is we created chances tonight. So they cannot afford any mistakes.
Win or draw we go through.
Come on Liverpool.
Poor gibbo but i do hope you wake up in the morning and enjoy the win more. Its a semi of the Champions League and we scored five goals. First time ever. Im bouncing over how well we played. The joy of football on display! Up the fucking reds!
Don’t quite get the Allison praise when Karius was the best keeper on the pitch.
Yup. I’m never going to blame a keeper on a 1v1 or a penalty. And people saying he got lucky putting the ball onto the bar, he made a save. That’s his job. I don’t really fault anyone, including Milner (maybe) or Lovren (Take him over Matip every single day, especially against a physical striker). Both made one mistake apiece and a top 4 team in Europe made them pay. Shit happens. Think more about the mistakes we made them make and life is great. We’re fucking incredible
Lay-off Gibbo!
He is 100% correct. We should not have conceded two.
The door should have been firmly locked. That’s what “the best team in the World” would have done.
What a performance. Irrepressible. It was amazing. Five goals from the forwards. Five.
Was a joy to behold.
100% in Rome. 100% serious. 100% out to win the match.
Win or draw and we go through.
Come on Liverpool!
This is the way to feel,

The commentator knows this was a special performance.
This is the joy that this team can bring.
Come on Liverpool!
Thats the first pink I’ve had to switch off due to anger. Fuck off Gibbo. I normally like his contribution but he was talking absolute shyte.
If you have to switch off because someone is saying something you disagree with, that says more about you than TAW or Gibbo. Snowflake.
Pipe down dickhead
Love Gibbo, but he just sounded like Marvin off Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Barca went to Roma thinking they were already in the semi’s. We wont be that arrogant. Up The Reds
Never knew Gibbo was such an anxiety-ridden fella. Or maybe something else on his mind?
Nevertheless, the Reds will get the job done next week. Then Gibbo can live out the joy of reaching the CL final.
These Reds are boss, they will deliver!
Btw, one of these days Bobby’s gonna catch Salah with one of his Kung-Fu kicks.
Gibbo you ruined the vibe mate!
5-2!
What a show this should of been – ‘I don’t want to be too negative’ – he says about 10 times. Ruined it mate.
5-2 in a semi final of a European Cup! And I nearly had to turn it off. What a downer.
Rest of the young lads – well in and rightly fucking excited. Up the not yer Da reds.
Ah I’m such a tit.
Gibbo you were feeling what you’re feeling. Reaction show should be an honest reaction – not just what I want to hear. Didn’t mean to have a go.
Mad game. Amazing times.
I get where Gibbo’s coming from. Conceding two did take the sheen off a little. Still happy, like, but we didn’t come out the ground bouncing – no joyous bedlam like there was on the concourses at half-time.
But at least now we’ll go to Rome with our eyes fully open. We know attack is our best form of defence. And we can score there. These lads can score anywhere.
Get your lad out… Lmao
Have said it before the best shows for me is when you get someone giving an alternative view, not for the sake of it but because that is a true reflection of what they feel.
If you want a self congratulationsry show where 4 5 pundits all agree switch on talk sport or 5 live.
All John was saying was at 5-0 or 5-1 with us playing them of the field the tie was over, the second goal coming so quickly after their first just gives them a glimmer and some momentum, the tie should be over, now it is not.
Really don’t understand why when people don’t agree they result to ridiculous insults, it is his honest opinion, that is all, it’s just an opinion and helps make shows like this so much more interesting for me anyway.
No I agree, John settled down eventually. But the way he started was bonkers. You’d think we just got knocked out. And then he was just being contrary about everything. Roma weren’t the better side for 40 minutes, what a joke. Yes, they started well for the first 20, but they weren’t on top, it was just an even game. Then we absolutely blitzed them up til the 80th minute. It was bliss. It was erotic. It should have been 9.
I just thought he was a wet blanket, and wanting to make sure he threw it over the fire everyone else was feeling
Fair play to him, his closing statement was much more balanced. And all Reds would agree with him. 5-0 is much better than 5-2. But crikey, that display deserved to be celebrated.
Fair point, it was just the way the game panned out, if we had been 2-0 down after there good start and went on to win 5-2 I suspect everyone including John would have been bouncing.
Just want people to be able to express there views without being crucified.
Totally agree with this the best shows are the ones where there is an alternative view rather than everyone chiming in. That was JG’s honest feeling and I’m glad he stood his ground. Shouldn’t be getting any grief for it. My own post-match feelings are more in line with what the others felt but his alternative perspective and the back and forth made for a great show. Normally I cringe when I read this but I even laughed out loud at one point. Keep up the good work.
Great show lads. Alternative views always likely straight after a highly emotive game.
Found it odd that John had a pop at Dan for saying Liverpool were better than Barcelona (as they are almost La Liga champs unlike us in our lge) yet then goes on to say himself that Liverpool are better than Real Madrid (current La Liga champs and CL holders)
Gibbo was fine – many of us shared his disappointment immediately after the match. I’m sure he is feeling much better about the result today.
Much more annoying for me was the potty mouth of Johnny Milburn. Just no need at all for his constant swearing. In my view, TAW needs to cut that out in shows if this nature. Some swearing in moderation is fine for most of us – but not at the ridiculous level Milburn reached.
Pretty sure we’ll get through! Just hope we can get the first goal to calm the nerves, dont know if i can take a first half like we had at the eithad..
Re the squad, we could push trent into midfield if required and get clyne in a right back if hes fit ?
Also woodburn could give 1 of the front 3 a break against stoke, also do we have a recall clause on grujic? Hes done alright with cardiff… enough to get some game time next season.
John Gibbons remains the voice of reason. No one is down after that result but stating the bald facts doesn’t make it a negative view. It wasn’t an ‘even game’ for the first twenty minutes as has been suggested but we were outstanding after that. Some of the comments in response were insane (we are the best side on the planet etc). We are 18 points off our own league champions . The league doesn’t lie. We are playing fantastic football and I think we will go on to win it. Pointing out aspects of concern doesn’t make any of it less enjoyable.
To whoever manages this App:
I became a member at ‘The Anfield Wrap’ cause I love Liverpool, love your podcasts & love the user friendliness of this App. None of those things have changed so don’t worry.
HOWEVER, there’s ONE big problem with the service that’s been bothering me so much I had to ask you about it:
So what the hell have you guys done with the Podcasts from 2018, 2017, 2016 etc…?
I remember listening to some of your shows with a friend who subscribed back then and they were absolutely great, especially in 2018. So that made me feel nostalgic and want to re-listen to some of those shows cause I assumed you’d have them somewhere in this is app.
Unfortunately, while you do have *links* to those old overview, pre, & postgame shows, the links may lead to summaries/transcripts of the show that don’t include any audio/media files. I tried going through the ‘Podcasts’ section of this App but that was even worse cause it didn’t bother with links and just stopped at Jan 2019.
So I that was really a long way of me asking whether those “old” Podcasts are still accessible and, if not, what happened? Did you guys delete them or lose the files accidentally?
I only ask cause, if they’re inaccessible, we’ve lost your wonderful coverage and *real-time* reactions during the 2 greatest stretches, along with winning 2019 CL & getting 97 Pts in EPL, of Liverpool football we’ve see in in a generation:
1) The 2018 CL run that took us all the way to Kiev and included beating 100 pt Man City TWICE.
2) The remarkable 7-0 run in December 2018 that ended with a 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal at Anfield and set the table for the greatest EPL Title race of the modern era.
Anyway, sorry for droning on but as you can see I’m kinda bummed at not being able to reminisce and wax nostalgic by listening to your shows from back then. If there was a way it access those shows I would be ecstatic and would obviously like to know how.
But to whoever’s read this, thanks for indulging me & I hope to hear from you soon, YWNWA.
Hi Ali,
This is an issue we’re attempting to solve as we speak so hopefully you’ll have all those shows you’re after back in no time.
Thanks for your support!
Josh.
