A game with so much to Review from the points of view of both sides. Liverpool started well and faded, Tottenham grew into the contest. Could either side have done more or better throughout? What was successful for The Reds and is it sustainable at that intensity?
Both sides had a plan and each worked. How? And what changed?
To discuss this we have Neil Atkinson hosting Paul Cope and Sean Rogers.

Paul is absolutely spot on about the front 3 not quite gelling at the moment. No idea why but the slick interchange isn’t there as it was pre-Christmas. Could be partly that Mane is struggling with his confidence and therefore isn’t playing instinctively. Could also be the removal of Coutinho who was integral to much of the intricate one or two touch sharpness in the final third. Moments of individual magic from Firmino and Salah in the past couple of games but the cohesion has definitely disappeared for the time being.
I wonder if we’re straying into Salah being selfish territory. He’s bloody brilliant at the moment, of course, but it hinders their interplay.
Good show as ever, surprised the two pens were not discussed.
As someone who is involved in football as Sean is would have liked to have got his take on the Lovren touch meaning Kane was on side, after listening to a whole host of differing options still don’t know what is right, or indeed is it just down to interpretation, and both there thoughts on VVD challenge for the second pen.
A man that clearly didn’t actually listen to the show
Can you please enlighten me, at what point in the 48 min pod did Sean discuss each decision ?
They discussed taking the pen sure but not if he thought each was a pen in his view unless I am going bonkers which I may well be.
Did yesterday on the free show for sure but just wanted an opinion from a professional .
Ah ok ….. you’re right. They didn’t cover the specifics as you’ve now said and as you also say Sean’s lens is always one you and I both clearly look forward to.
The wider media got the story of this game badly wrong, possibly because so much happened it was hard to edit. Good show as per usual.
We must develop a more organized out ball, or at least a better plan to keep possession when the pressure’s on. In general this team seems to struggle between having creative possession against lower sides & an inability to keep the ball or play through midfield against the better sides. Suppose that’s just a consequence of the quality of midfielders we have.
Harsh on Karius at the end there!
Possibly because this had more talking points than most games this season but probably because the tactical aspects were so interesting this is THE best Review this season.
Sean obviously works quite hard on his thoughts and we are grateful for it; very well facilitated by Neil as always
xG: Liverpool 1.5 – 1.2 Tottenham, so nothing in it really (Caleygraphics)
Perhaps more interestingly, because accepted narratives have so much more weight than fact: Salah is finishing 21% of his shots in the league, 7th best shot conversion rate in Europe. Messi is finishing 15.6%. Kane is finishing 15.1%. It doesn’t mean Salah isn’t taking as many chances as he should do, but there’s a lazy line of thought that Salah is passing up loads of chances. I think it’s just because we expect a CF like Kane to shoot often, but not a wide forward.
Excellent review show. This is my favourite show of the week and this 1 was one of the best you’ve done
Eighth goals conceded in last three games at Anfield. A Klopp team always leaks. Remember Dortmund in the Cl final? Defence is as bad as the Rodgers era.Fourth at best.
The front three. It wouldn’t stick and there was no one with a goal threat to pass to in midfield. Can. Henderson. Milner. Salah, Mane and Firmino must feel they have to do it all themselves where previously they might have used the option to pass back to Phil. Combined with a worrying trend of bad decision making/selfish play (starting with Mane at Everton but continued by Salah currently and compounded by Mane’s loss of form, I am concerned. Let’s hope it’s a blip and Mane and Salah can get it together. Mane having a serious “second season” situation and maybe fed up that Salah has all the limelight and has nicked the African player of the year too.
