After a fantastic performance against West Ham United The Anfield Wrap reflects on how well Liverpool played and how well they have been playing in general. It is increasingly looking a better and better season from The Reds and the goals simply will not stop coming.
The front three stood out but we dwell on Emre Can, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner on this week’s show along with the impact Virgil van Dijk is having.
We also work through the most recent transfer links along with assessing the top four picture as it stands.
Neil Atkinson hosts with Ben Johnson, Paul Senior and Rob Gutmann all making up the panel.
The Anfield Wrap’s free Monday show is supported by RedsBet.

Only have to look at the cast to know this is a good one
I love Gutman’s ‘Guns of Navarone’ style analogy to our transfer dealings, especially in comparison to Man United’s ‘Wild Geese’ type approach. Good stuff, as ever lads.
Good show. All Liverpool fans should be thinking ‘I’ll have a bowl of that’.
They won’t though. A lot of our fanbase are fucked mentally.
What happens is you get ‘players’ who are well known in the Liverpool fan circles talking shit and the weak follow their lead blindly. The sons of miners as I call them.
Then there’s the average fans who like to sound knowledgeable on Twitter by spouting shit . For years all I’ve heard is why aren’t we signing Lacazette or Aubameyang. As I don’t watch foreign football I wondered too. Now I’ve seen them I’m astounded people thought they’d be good for us. We’re now being linked to Allison but if the LFC fans had their way we’d have Butland in goal and Memphis Depay on the wing. Apparently, we should have just outbid them and blown all our budget on getting Depay. There’d be no Virgil because we’d have Harry Maguire partnering Matip. Then there’s the ‘FSG will only buy value nonsense. That policy finished years ago. Did no one notice we signed Van Dijk and Keita for £130m? The only way the argument stacks up is, if you like, you can say Firmino, Mane and Salah were value signings at £100m for the trio but that’s not their argument. We need billionaire owners so we can just go out and buy all the best players in the world. A bit like Everton have got with Moshi.
We all need to stay strong and stick to our conviction. Don’t let the negativity effect us. Anyone can see this Liverpool team is on the verge. If we hear doubters we should all just twat them. The thing i’m trying to point out is the fans aren’t always right. In fact, our club would be fucked if some of them had got their way. I have my own issues to deal with admittedly. I think we’re so good that if we don’t beat Newcastle my head will fall off for a few days. That’s just extreme disappointment though rather than just collating the past 25 years and reaching a conclusion based on it (that we’re shit and it’s typical of Liverpool). The summer is huge for us. With Klopp and his intelligence in the transfer market, a good summer could be the tipping point. I sense the wait is nearly over. I was worried about Salah because everyone told me we’d sell our best player in the summer and if we were linked to Allison for over £50m then Salah was paying for it. I’ve seen a different side to him over the past few weeks. He’s going nowhere in the summer. Since reading about this Jorginho my head been going. I want him now so badly. The show was right though. Players will be looking at Liverpool and thinking I bet they’re good to play for. We could do with reaching the semi’s of the CL minimum to be honest.
Yes!
Thanks to all !!!
More from that Ben Johnson fella please.
Great thoughts and great to listen to.
A close second to the magnificent Gutter!
A great show from all.
If only the optimism of TAW in general and those like Robin could be felt by the doubters, then match day could be like it’s meant to be. This team is as good a Liverpool team that I have seen and I have been going since the mid sixties. It is a joy to watch them.
I’ve only subscribed 2 months and although new, I can really relate to Rob Gutmann. He’s critical when required but always supportive and optimistic about the team we all love. Some of the extreme and unwarranted negativity in other shows make me wonder why support a team where there is no faith or believe.
Same as Jack – saw the line-up and knew this would be a good listen. Only noticed now how well Ben paints pictures of the match with his descriptions of different moments. Really enjoyed this show.
Brilliant podcast, enjoy so much positivity, none of which was misguided, completely agree with everything said
Dream team, Gutmann (solid performer) , Atcko (slick midfield flow), Ben Johno (humour and truth) Andy (experience, cannyness) I’d bring in Nevin (ARL arse) Robbo (needle) Mo (team spirit) and Gibbo (eternal optimist and stripping) wallop sorted!
I agree we’re underrated, but that’s just fine & I don’t want people to go on about it to outsiders. That’s what Spurs fans do. We’re better than that. We accept the pressure because we have the ambition.
I’d rather get Allan than Jorginho. Tucks his shirt in. Just think about that.
Ben Johnson is just Brilliant!
