What a victory for the marvellous boys in Red. Liverpool showed their class as they undid Manchester City by 4 goals to 3. It was a performance with 10 men of the match and Liverpool sending a message out to the wider league.
It’s a packed overexcited room for the victory. Neil Atkinson is joined by Paul Johnson, Charlotte Campbell, Gaby Kirschner, Ian Salmon and Paul Senior. Liverpool did the business and the city is on fire.
Jesus Christ. We beat the best team in the league and you guys want to lambast our goal keeper? Please. Look at yourselves.
Agree, 100%, whats the point. Doesnt`t do anyone any good and puts or mood down. We all know he could be better , its getting boring, end off
Agree.
So you are saying the keepers are good enough and supporters have no right to question otherwise?
Personally i think the issue is the only card we took was when firmino lost his top. The reds fought but they didnt get bastardly and almost stopped throwing in tackles late on…which i approve of now since we will have more yellows later in the season, but some professional foulds may have stop city’s momentum which reduced our goal difference. Also, hate that our brilliant goals are diminished by wack ones.
About the hair-pile between the sticks, at least it has been determined that he has some distribution skills…although he sometimes acts like he is in training and can’t be arsed defending the goal. Hope Big Virg can lead him a bit, but still left wondering….
Today was the perfect answer to a week where we’ve mourned the loss of Coutinho, bemoaned the lack of signings, endured the Soccer AM fanfare. A reminder that this is a football team on the brink of greatness – managed by a man who is capable of drawing the absolute most out of every tool at his disposal. Anfield as well, despite many nights to prove the contrary – showed it can be as volatile as any – as horrible a place to play as any place in Europe. That ground revelled in the greatness of that performance and rightly so. What a set of lads. Up the reds
Got no problem slating the keeper … he’s awful … They both are … Give us a top keeper and 1 or 2 more top defenders, and we’re competing for titles.
We have TWO garbage keepers. End of.
I would have said that we have one averagish keeper who doesn’t suite our style, and one with potential but who is bang out of form. Whether we have the time/points to play him into form is another question though.
I know Klopp came out in fierce support of Achterberg, and I’m sure he is a lovely fella, but it does seem strange that someone with no top-flight previous experience, playing or coaching, and a series of poor/out-of-form keepers with us, is still in a job nearly 10 years later. He may not be the problem, but surely there is scope to bring someone with a better track record and keep him on as an assistant. Can’t hurt in any case.
I like the idea of Karius, and I think he looks like he has all the qualities required to be a great keeper (quick hands, moves well, good with his feet) but he seems to be let down by poor positioning/footwork, which seems to me to be one of the key things a GK coach should work on. But then I make a terrible keeper so what do I know?
@Tom C
Have asked this question several times:
What exactly has John Achterberg done, to enable our goal keepers to go from potentially good to great, in the time he has been at LFC?
I don’t know which one of them really brought Mignolet here, but definitely Achterberg hasn’t done enough to help improve the goal keepers since Reina’s decline in form.

I wonder who else Achterberg is monitoring these days.
This is isn’t streaming again I’m afraid – it’s really frustrating because I love The Pink but it breaks up all the time?? Anybody else having streaming problems ?
I’d really like to see Karius do well and claim no 1 spot but he simply aint good enough and along with mignolet will be replaced in the summer. I see us going for butland
Not streaming for me at 10.10pm, C’mon boys … really want to hear this one!
Bit annoyed it’s becoming a ‘thing’ to slag our keeper all the time. To be fair, he was only at fault for the first goal and he did get off his line quickly a couple of times – not a huge fan, hope we buy someone for this position soon but it seems a bit churlish when we’ve just beaten City (just like it was after we beat Everton). Ederson, was awful.
You can only review what’s in front of you.
I think we are being harsh on karius, give the lad some room get behind him we put with Simon Mignolet for about 5 years we can give karius a bit of a run in the team I’m sure he will come good, he is a klopp players name one klopp player who hasn’t impressed so far.
Andy Robertson. With his performances to date, that red shirt fits him as if it was made on Saville Row. Heartwarming to see. The left back position may be filled. I never doubted Klopp, but with just a few more similar additions in defence, there could be no limit to what is achievable. No. Limit.
When it comes to the 3 goals we let in its our defensive failings, and when it comes to the 4 our opponents let in its our attacking prowess.
Enjoyed the show, didn’t enjoy the slagging off of the keeper.(however justified)
Sometimes, the best way to learn and improve on a football pitch is to make a mistake that doesn’t cost the team points, that is what happened yesterday.
Gomez is in the same boat.
He made an error, but because we won it’s ok.
Learn from it.
First off, Great Game!
1. What has happened to Manés pace since the last 2 injuries? Seems to have lost 25%. He was so quick when he came. Now he draws out from running challenges with centerbacks…
2. Karius is a bad shot stopper but so much better in the air and playing the sweeper. Mignolet has conceded alot of weird goals. He is not in any shape or form better.
3. Lovren had a horrible time for the 3rd and Milner for the 2nd. Saved by the bell. Gets kind of ignored amid the joy.
Can understand the noise about Karius, I was fuming at half time over the near-post goal. We’ve got to understand tho that he’s lacking in confidence and we shouldn’t rush to get on his back at every opportunity.
Would really love to see the lad have a big big moment for Liverpool, he needs one, and it just might see him turn his fortunes around for us.
He had a great game recently. He has had good moments and he is improving. I bet Mignolet doesnt save any of those 3 goals + fails to come out 2-3 times which leads a 4th goal…
I know it’s the pink & reactionary but the blaming of Karius for all 3 goals pissed me off. Apart from the 1st goal, I thought he done nothing else wrong. Lovren was awful for the 3rd yet not a mention. Also thought Matip was not good enough for the 1st. The most expensive keeper in the world was at the other end & had a lot poorer game. Klopp needs to find out if he’s his man before the Summer. I think he’s made up his mind on Mignolet. He can’t get any better, Karius might, especially with Van Dyke in front of him.
Great win, looking forward to the review show.
Cant we just celebrate a win for what it is? The keeper stuff can be left for another day. Its like Sky Sports spending 10 mins on our GK after a game we had won 4-3.
I’d like to go and find all of the comments when Mignolet fucks up which basically say Karius should be given a run of games and if he makes a mistake its all part of his learning curve……
Watched the 2nd half again.
Who knows but the key incident/event looks to be Otamendi’s header onto the bar. Karius was beaten. If that goes in then I think it is a different game. But does not matter, we went on to give the perfect response. Was an absolute joy to see them rampant for that 9-10 minute spell. Often hear criticism about our defenders and defending however, City’s back 5 were shaken for about 15-20minutes after Mané’n deflected shot and his one that hit the post. Those seemed to be triggers for us (re)gaining our belief that we were in this and could win it.
Was a great game. Great contest too.
Once again I was impressed by Robertson. If all goes well 8million might just be seen as a snip in a couple of years. Hope it does. And I liked the way he did not back-down from Sterling, standing his ground and giving him a bump just to let him know. Was booked and taken off shortly after that. We’ve lacked that a little bit in a few areas. Hope he stays fit because he looks promising and he is still a bit rough round the edges at this stage.
Great game to have won.
It stands out though yeah that goalkeeper is our weakest position? Young lad falling backwards for the first like he doesnt want to get hit by a belted ball. 2nd is a great finish and 3rd is milner and lovren and karius. We still NEED to score outstanding goals to win with Karius at back. (Or Mignolet) Great atmos round LFC and Anfield Wrap now! WTRWWAW
the second was Andy Robertson switching off and not tracking the run of the city wide right lad, instead getting sucked in to the ball.
And the 3rd – Robertson put in no challenge at all when the ball dropped to Gundogen. Lovren’s header should be better, but don’t let a lot of running around and giving out needle distract from what actually happened.
We need a keeper for fucks sake. All this well-mannered do good middle England shite is very “sporting” but both Karius and Mignolet are shite and nowhere near the bar set by Pepe.
The Karius bashing was worthy of Soccer AM or TalkShite. Having opinions is what watching football is all about, but vindictive slagging off is best left for those who follow the Club on social media.
Agree with all the comments here about Karius – let’s not spend the next four months bashing him and hyperbolising every mistake he makes and ignoring the good things, especially since it’s not likely that the Oblaks and Alissons are available this month. It always seems to turn into a contest as to who can make the most personal insults when it comes to our ‘keepers. He made one big mistake and he’ll know it. And I think it does matter that Ederson was a lot worse in that match.
Got it streamed – thanks lads if you sorted it – boss podcast obviously. After Everton when Gibbo started on Karius I thought he was just bevvied… but he was right. We have their keeper today and we win 7-0. Forget replacing Coutinho in the short run we need to spend 50 M on a decent keeper.
They literally had their keeper and they lost 4-3 though? This is taking ‘evidence’ to a whole new dimension…
