Does the sale of Phillipe Coutinho leave Liverpool terminally light on numbers for the rest of the season, and who could the reds bring in to take the slack
With news of tentative enquiries to Leipzig to try and free Naby Keita from his contract earlier than expected is it possible Liverpool, having acquiesced of Coutinho, to push a little harder?
And with news of even more goalkeepers being linked, are Liverpool’s 3 currents custodians days numbered?
Rob Gutmann is joined by Melissa Reddy, Paul Senior and Adam Melia.
We where in a worse state last time we won the Champions League than now to be fair……clutching at straw i know.
Disagree with paul rather than pay 20 mil to leipzig youd rather give 10mil or 20 mil more to monaco and get lemar over the line for sure now. Play him not as the main man but rotate him in and out. With a view to him being the main man next season. Rather than compete with other teans for him in the summer.
If we don’t sign a replacement for Coutinho or bring Keita in early we will definitely struggle to stay in top 4. We lack creativity in midfield and since his return Lallana has not been strong enough to fill Coutinho’s boots. Breaking teams down will be a struggle and teams who park the bus will be able to obtain a positive result. If we don’t sign someone, I would not put money on LFC making top 4….
I honestly don’t get the Lallana and Coutinho comparisons. Not a chance Lallana can replicate what Coutinho did for us. We’re an attacking body light and if we don’t recruit this window we’re seriously putting our top 4 credentials at risk. Not to mention our cup winning potential- Coutinho was someone who could whip one in from 25 yards out of nowhere. That’s something vital in close, right knockout matches and something we’ll really miss.
@roadwarrior I agree with you regarding Lallana comparison bit, but regarding Coutinho whipping those in etc we will never know if this hold true or not.
He whipped one the last time he had a penalty that was saved against Man City and we lost that final. So far we didn’t win anything with him in the team either.
I think maybe reposition Bobby Firmino in the middle as my hunch is while he will not be another Coutinho he has the ability, strength and foresight to make those kinds of passes to players who are willing to do the necessary work to score.
feels like part of Klopp strategy to evolve how the team plays (ref. Naby Keita and Oxlade-Cham.) to replace Coutinho with a different type of dynamic midfielders. Less reliance upon individual magic to win games, instead making the team devastating, dynamic, relentless in attack and defence (furious pressing, more recovery pace, etc.) so we can overwhelm teams with energy and quality, becoming harder to play against and more consistent across a season.
shame Coutinho leaving overshadows VVD signing – he is (literally!) massive for this season and future..
very hard to sign player in Jan that will improve the team. Keita would improve MF massively, with immediate impact. Sanchez or Mahrez would create/score goals for 4 months, but neither make sense beyond May.
massive faith in Klopp’s recruitment record to continue major upgrades (GK, ‘Number 6’, AM and unearth another ridiculous Mane/Bobby/Salah player for the front 3) but I expect we have to wait until summer.. and that’s probably ok.
