Rob Gutmann is joined for the latest edition of The Gutter transfer speculation show by Andy Heaton and Josh Sexton to look at the latest transfer speculation at Anfield.
With exits more likely than arrivals have Liverpool left themselves thin going into he business end of the season.
Was kind of hoping for Mike Nevin…the hero we all need right now.
When you spoke about managers galvanising their current squads and pushing them on you forgot to mention that we didn’t sell our best player in either of those windows. How galvanised do you think we would have been if we’d sold Suarez in the January of 14?
The cult of Klopp is now being utilised by FSG to provide them with an overriding excuse for anything that the club is getting wrong. “It’s what Klopp wants” is now the most dangerous phrase surrounding this club.
Of course I’m exaggerating, but Christ this is a depressing transfer window. With it now looking likely that Sturridge is off as well leaving us with Solanke and Ings as back ups to Firmino can anyone actually justify or support Klopp on this? Add in the injury worries of Lallana and even Henderson and we’re so thin it’s completely negligent and stupid not have done business this window.
Oh well hey. I can’t wait to see the size of our war chest this summer. I hear it’s likely to be a big one. Even bigger than last years.
If we don’t strengthen then it will show the ambition the club has, for Klopp to say that business will most likely be done in the summer (prices could increase due to player performance at the World Cup) makes me wonder if he’s been told no funds will be available for January and he’s been spun “summer war chest” and a big spend. The problem with trying to get all your main targets in summer is whether they’re available and the price and wages are to the liking of FSG. We’ve been told we can compete with anyone but we do like to lowball and baulk at high wages.
If we fail to gain Champions League status for next season due to this gamble then the club deserves everything it gets, don’t bother trying for those main targets as they’ll not want to play Europa League football and I’d suggest Klopp tries to distance himself from FSG’s mediocre spending. If he’s not being allowed to spend on players and the wages these players expect then call the owners out, if they want top four or God forbid a league title they’ll have to pay the going rates. We are clearly trying to get forth on the cheap which again shows the level of our ambition.
Andy hit the nail on the head
“piss poor planning”
I know everyone would like a shiny new toy but maybe Klopp is right in saying that the best replacements are in the squad right now, especially considering there isn’t a preseason to bed them in. Give me better stop gaps we could buy than Lallana and Chambo. Mahrez would be nice but he plays Salah’s position (which is also Mane’s best position).
