Liverpool were tragic. Spurs didn’t need to be magic. They just got gift after gift after gift.
In our studio we have Andy Heaton, Dan Morgan, Craig Hannan and Dan Austin getting stuck into The Reds.
We can only say what we see.
Liverpool were poor, so very poor.

Maybe I’m alone in this, but there is a point in these games when you know the Reds haven’t a notion of getting back into the game when I just want them to get absolutely hammered. If Spurs wanted to keep their press going rather than invite us to break them down, it could have been worse than the City game.
And let’s make no bones about it, this was worse, far, far worse than the City game because we got our goal through Salah to get back into it and had the luxury of 11 players for the full 90, although given Lovren’s performance that’s arguable. For his sake I sincerely hope he was carrying some kind of knock into the game. The recent story about his need to take pain killers for every game means there’s an argument he shouldn’t be playing 3 games a week, not that that is in any way justifying his performance today.
Given we have now conceded a league high 15, (FIFTEEN) goals away from home in just 5 games something needs to happen, although what that is at this stage is a mystery to me because the players we have clearly aren’t good enough and keep making the same individual errors, game after game. Klopp can be the best coach in the world but without the requisite talent it’s redundant.
The best case scenario is that we are still somehow in the mix for a CL spot in January and the club break the bank to get some reinforcements in, although given Klopp’s track record that seems unlikely, which leads to a worst case scenario of missing out on the CL, maybe Europe altogether, followed by our top talent being picked off by the Spaniards and we start another period of rebuilding.
Pessimistic? Absolutely, but after the start we’ve made I don’t think it’s outlandish.
Could not agree more , but i am realky starting to doubt klopp , summer spurs who spend less than us needed cover at back so bought a right back and cenrte half , needed cover up front so bought llorente , city need full backs so bought 2 , we need a whole defence and a keeper so what does he do ? Spends £35m on a player we didnt fucking need !!!!!!
I fear for Neil’s sanity if he has got 3 shows on that, good luck mate!
Might as well keep this show close at hand as will be able to play this right through to Jan and beyond if we don’t take the thumb out of our arse and start dealing with the defence and lack of leadership.
There is no school for learning how to be a great leader, you either are or you are not , shouting and screaming is a very small part of it, it’s looking at that person and wanting to follow, wanting to be led.
Agree with a lot off what Andy had to say , the fact that the panel picked Albi as our best player and are considering him to be our best defender goes to show just how fucking abject we are..
Isn’t it telling that when Lovren gets pulled he does not bring on Klaven, clearly has no faith in him, no surprises there which makes the decision not to buy at least 2 centre backs a complete farce .
Not sure if we can get Van Dyke in Jan but he alone is not the answer, it’s unfair on him to think it is.
We fought so hard to get in the top four only to fuck it up by not being ruthless with players who just aren’t good enough and not buying the quality to push on.
Is that down to the owners, Klopp, Edwards, whoever it is I hope they have leaned the error of there ways and don’t make the same mistakes again, not doing anything with that back 5.
As usual great show
Ps when giving the player ratings any chance of giving the manager a mark? Like to know your thoughts on his performance, good or bad, just a thought.
Still conceding on average 2 goals a game.
Absolutely not sustainable!
How must our attackers must feel knowing that they’re very likely gonna have to score 3 goals just to have a chance of winning?
How can we expect things to change when we keep doing the same things over and over again?!
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Start Sturridge and Chamberlain and get Firmino and Can off. Or do anything except the same old thing. If you are not good enough at least get stuck in and not be so listless. All other clubs at the top have bolstered while Liverpool’s management has made zero commitment to change. There I feel better. A waste of 90 minutes today.
It’s a legacy thing. How much are we missing Stevie G?? Agree he’s once in a generation player but go out and spend millions on an up and coming leader/el captain.
We need to change the formation, and change it quick. Play 3 at the back, flexible in that if he wants to attack utilise the two wing backs higher up the park. When the need to defend, play a straight 5 across the back. It’s a no brainer, quick solution to some of our defending. Individual mistakes won’t be eradicated but we will have an extra body to hopefully clear the ball.
How long will it be that the manager has to be called out on his decisions. I don’t have any coaching badges, never been a manager of any footie side but it’s glaring obvious to me where and who the shit houses are.
Time to act Heir Klopp
Can you name the 3 for your 3 at the back?
@ Alan Mooney, I understand the need for another Stevie, but I honestly don’t think money can buy a leader or leader-in-the-making.
Nobody knew what/Stevie would turn out int he beginning much like Mascherano or Alonso for example since many fans throw these names around to compare to the current quality. The manager at the time only had an idea based on experience. Aquilani is a direct opposite of the above.
Leaders I think have an innate ability to take charge, inspire, roll up their sleeves and take one for the team as well. Henderson has too much on his head for even trying to attempt leadership, and I’m not sure if there is a language barrier or cultural barrier, where when you don’t have the past credentials like Stevie had (winning the CL medal is big fucking deal mate), it’s harder to pull your weight and lead some times.
Another thing is Stevie did not always rescue or lead the team, I think Carra did some of that, but I remember the moments, the goals, the crazy chances created by Stevie, that Henderson is doesn’t even come close to in his past 5 years at the club.
So credibility also comes from having to walk the talk, which works against Henderson or whoever else is left to lead in the team. Milner might be able to skim past this.
I don’t have coaching badges either, but my fans’ perspective is that Klopp should have realized through his experience when the wheels came off back in December 2016. He should have realized then what the EPL and this team had to offer with all the issues plaguing them back then. And whether or not we reached Top 4, he needed to earmark issues and take precautions in the summer instead of what we all witnessed.
Excellent pod on a day that has been waiting to happen and that so many can call it from so far out makes it harder to swallow.
It was a big summer and what Happened for Man City didn’t happen for us. They identified players, boxed them off and they progress and we stay still, except by staying still you don’t offer anything new for opposing managers to worry about so therefore you they work you out quicker and you go backwards.
Last year it took until Xmas and Mane missing for us to be found out, since then up front we have added Salah, but, because of the city game (felt like a defining moment at the time and looks more so every week) we have not had our new front 3 on the field to cause enough problems for opposing managers to solve and when they have been there they have been wasteful and not converted the chances into goals.
They also don’t have the problem of Coutinho, Lallana or Naby Keita in midfield to solve because one is not playing there, one is still at Leipzig and one is injured.
At the back we did not get VVD and we are now in the situation that as an opposing manager knows all you do is wait for Liverpool to gift you something. This is what mourinho was banking on and it nearly happened.
When Lucas left on one of the shows (possibly Paul Senior) asked the question at what point in the season do you miss Lucas. Yesterday would be a good shout but Man City away is the correct answer. We would not have shipped 5 in the way we did with Lucas on the pitch and you imagine he would have sorted things out afterwards if they had.
Its easy to blame Klopp but he is limited by what he can work with and in 7 years since FSG became owners my main criticism of them is recruitment and how in particular they don’t value experience and that young players learn from older ones.
Under FSG; Torres, Maxi, Kuyt, Reina, Suarez, Sterling and Lucas have been allowed to leave and Carragher and Gerrard have retired. Non of these players have been properly replaced and more of a worry is that there does not seem to be any value by FSG put on players with experience and / or organising skills. There seems to be an idea that a coach can somehow do that for the team. The last players the club signed that was a warrior / nasty / narley player was Mascherano. At the back i cannot think of any nasty defenders we have signed in the last 10 years.
This then turns in to a greater problem because you have no experienced / nasty players in the club for the young players to learn from.
I felt that Klopp had identified this as a problem in the summer and he was let down by others that could not get deals done. I feel that Klopp has made the forwards much better but in defence he has not been able to get more out of players that would probably be ok if they were in a team which already had leaders in but as a collective unit have no agression or communication and it’s hard to teach that.
That defensive performance was insane. It was over before it started. Tough to have any issues with midfielders today when its was over before anyone got on the ball proper. That first goal looked like a youth side (age 10) drilling offside traps in training and then trying it out in a game except this is the PL and the one trying to beat your trap is Harry Kane. It should not be allowed at this level. Klopps stubborness with the offside trap seems insane. Its like he has realized that OK these guys are not strong enough in defence so I will do the work for them, they will do the offside trap all the time and we are golden. WELLLLLL fotball doesnt play like that. You can use the offside trap but you cant completetly fuckin rely on it.
Maldini, T Silva, Ramos. These guys are not known worldwide for their ability to put attackers offside, fuckin hell. Its a tool but as a backbone you need to defend, block, chase down, win headers. You cant defend with a offside trap as your only tool. To many goals this season where the manager seems to be shaking his head “just put him offside”. Well obviously we are not going to be the first side that defends every through ball with a offside trap, and there never will be one.
Second goal – that was so insane I don’t even know what to say. On the back of missing that clearance against Sevilla. That has to be game over for Lovren in a LFC shirt. That just lowered the bar for how low I though a lfc player could fall.
Mignolet to blame for 2 goals directly. 4th goal is just… its youth leauge and we are not talking like 15 year olds but 8 year olds. 3rd goal is arguably his as well. 1st goal, you could just sense from a mile that he wouldnt be the first to that ball. Mignolet is another one who should have played his last game for us tbh, to many mistakes, the same mistakes for to many years. That we have had to stand him for 6 seasons is insane.
Our defenders. None of them would take a spot in a top six side, i dont even think they would play in the mid table sides. Lovren would not get back into soton, he has regressed since he came. Matip I don’t think makes it into that Schalke defence today. Gomez is a kid and Moreno is a action figure.
I DONT EVEN THINK SALAH IS GOOD ENOUGH, HE IS TO WASTEFUL INFRONT OF GOAL AND IS COSTING US, NOT IN THIS GAME BUT IN SEVERAL OTHERS. Firmino only does well when we play well, that is not good enough. Coutinho is arguably only a player for the low block sides. He gets humiliated when things get to physical for him. Loosing the ball in really awkward areas. Henderson seems to have problem with his running OH MY GOSHHHH this is fcked up.
Was I the only one not cheering at all after Maribor? That was a comedy game. Nobody should ever have taken any fuckin strength from that win. Its embarrassing if you did.
At halftime I thought at least I now know how Maribor fans felt. It genuinely could have been 7 or 8 and without the post/bar it would have been.
Lloris isnt a world class keeper but he is a good one and yes he also makes mistakes but he made two saves yesterday that stopped the game being even and stopped any chance of giving our forwards hope they could turn it around.
As you guys have mentioned this isnt a new phenomenon and for the first time I blame Klopp. Jamie Carragher would have done a better job in that defence yesterday, he would have been telling Gomez what to do, where to go and above all else stay between the ball and the goal and they have less chance of scoring.
Moreno was our best defender by far and it shows that we are missing experience. This is where the moneyball falls down, theres noone there to grab people and tell them to wise the fuck up and hit them a slap at half time.
Buy a 30 year old Italian defender who looks like a Serbian war criminal and just have him stand in the D and shout at people.
Could you imagine Jamie Carragher or Stevie G standing for that shite. If I was playing I wouldnt be afraid of spurs or the manager Id be afraid of one of those two glaring at me.
As you guys have mentioned the top teams now have game plans to beat us and right now 8th place looks about the best we can aim for.
That was an embarrassment yesterday.
