Les Lawson is a name familiar to many Reds as the secretary of the Merseyside branch of the official Liverpool Supporters’ Club.
This summer, Les, despite leading what he believed to be a relatively healthy lifestyle, suffered a heart attack. Here, he speaks to Gareth Roberts and John Gibbons about what happened, his recovery, his roots as a Red and his proud record of attending every home game since the 1976-77 season (a record which continues!).
Les is also trying to raise awareness of the warning signs for heart problems. Official figures show that in the UK alone 160,000 people die from heart and circulatory disease every year and 73,000 people die from coronary heart disease.
We also speak to Les about the support and messages he received from Reds all over the world, from fans to ex-players.

Good luck & a speedy recovery to Les – had a similar event 9 years ago this week (aged 41) and it was very scary. It was the day before the Mancs at home and 3 days later we went to Marseille in the Champions League (Gerrard’s goal). Managed to get in front of a TV for Marseille but couldn’t for the Mancs as no screens in ICU – probably would have killed me anyway!! Anyway feeling pretty good after all these years and trying to look after myself but still living a decent life and having a few bevvies. Keep well Les!
Hi Les, you probably don’t remember me but I was on a bus to the Ataturk with you and Jamie in 05. I recognised your voice from the radio and we had a chat. I remember seeing Jamie’s face when the ground came into view, it was like all his christmases had come at once! What a day / night that was. Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell but made up your better. Take it easy mate up the Reds.
