Neil Atkinson is joined by Melissa Reddy, Jamie Russell and Ian Salmon to focus on what will happen from here with reference to Phil Coutinho, Liverpool and the avalanche of links which will follow the Brazilian’s rejected transfer request.
It’s all very much a matter of timing. Liverpool may well remain of the view that the window needs to work for them and that the Coutinho interest has not be properly anticipated or planned for.
The Reds went after Virgil Van Dijk early in the window. Do the panel expect him to be signed late?
A link has come in for Jean-Michael Seri of Nice. Is there likely to be anything in that? And what of Max Meyer and Lorenzo Insigne. The timing just doesn’t seem right.
Everything you need for the highways and byways of the transfer weekend with The Anfield Wrap.
Excellent show – Melissa Reddy should be on all the remaining Gutter shows this window. It will be interesting to have her on when Rob returns on Thursday.
I think we’ve all got short memories, last season before Coutinho signed his contract, there were Barcelona links & stories in the Catalan press. I live in Barcelona & all my mates were winding me up last season about it. We can’t accuse other clubs of being predatory and immoral, when we ourselves have been after Keita and VVD most of the transfer window, after all RB Leipzig and Southampton have been telling us all transfer window they won’t sell, so we’re being quite hypocritical here. Only difference is that Barcelona are about 100 times more street smart than Micheal Edwards and FSG, and they can get deals over the line. Coutinho has every right to leave, he just like most of the fanbase are disappointed with the lack of ambition shown to improve the squad and first 11
I agree with your point about us being in a glass house and throwing stones, but you’re wrong on “Coutinho has every right to leave”. He’s got every right to want to leave and pursue his career wherever he fancies but Liverpool have every right to hold him to the contract he signed.
If the owners do sell then that will indeed display a lack of ambition in my opinion but they are saying that they aren’t going to do that. Maybe we should wait and see what they do before burying them.
No statement from phil..
Its all very quiet and i havent heard ive got bad back and i won’t be into work since the 80’s … he on strike… or they FSG are tyring damage limitation on his image, if phil does play for LFC
again… i suppose hes worth fighting for but if the lad wants to go…let him..
Speaking of outgoings… any talk about Sakho/Markovic? It looks more and more like Moreno is re-wanted at the squad, but here nothing about those two.
