Liverpool have agreed a club-record fee to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig next summer. The surprise move comes as Liverpool are also looking to shatter their transfer record over Thomas Lemar. The Keita move has grabbed the attention of fans, with Jürgen Klopp clearly being a massive fan of the player.
What does this Keita news say about the club right now? It shows what a transfer can do for excitement but it also suggests Liverpool are planning long term with Keita the likely replacement for Philippe Coutinho next summer. It also shows the club’s flexibility. The move had been blocked at every turn and so Liverpool have been creative in getting the deal done. They have got their man, albeit belatedly.
Neil Atkinson and Craig Hannan go through all the permutations of this deal, laying the groundwork for The Anfield Wrap to investigate further through the week. It could well be a hell of a week in Liverpool’s recent history if this Monday is anything to go by.
Waoh, astonished!!
Are you sure VVD is not on the way too?
Thank you FSG
VVD tomorrow.
Hope so Michael.
Lemar deal progressing well.
They’re open to selling.
Hopefully agreement can be reached.
Origi likely to go the other way.
Yeah saw that too. Michael regarding defensive players, I’m a little tired of the VVD as the main target for LFC. So who would you guess could be Klopp’s candidates other than VVD that could help improve the defense?
Buzzing with this news but what is especially pleasing is this came as a surprise to so many – really made up that the club can do transfers without any hype and genuinely hit the headlines with the media wrong footed – three days to go – maybe two more to come in? Let’s hope so and town gets battered
Spent the day out, enjoying the sunshine. Came home, switched on the laptop and all I could think after reading the headline was “YES, YES, YES!” Really hope we keep Phil for one last season at least and we add our first choice centre back before 1st September. “YES, YES, YES!”
Ward = no 1 Mignolet 2nd best Karius 3rd choice.
After Arsenal lost last weekend, Lemar told his agent, ‘not them’. After LFC’s last two games, he called his agent and said ,’how bout them?’
That’s great and I agree it shows creative thinking by the club.
We now have 3 African international players, Mo looks a great prospect but I hope they are thinking strategically about how we plan, now, for their absence for the African Cup?
Remember how we fell apart this January? I know Sadio was not the only reason but his being away was an important factor.
The AFCON is moving to the summer John so we will no longer have that problem :)
