Rob Gutmann was joined for the latest Gutter by Dan Vincent, Paul Senior and Neil Atkinson to chat about some potential progress on Emre Can’s new contract and other matters pertaining to transfers both in and out of Melwood.

It would be negligent not to sign a left back you can’t start a crucial season with a midfielder in your back 4
I’m sure we’ll sign a left back, it just won’t be some worldy. More than likely we’ll end up with an understudy to Milner who can take over in a season or two. Which honestly, I’m fine with, there are bigger issues in the team which need solving this summer.
I’m still hoping we go back in for van Dijk later in the transfer window. After Southampton appoint a new manager they can spin the whole “New gaffa wants extra funds to rebuild the team” and “van Dijk has shown he’s not committed” etc… which might pave the way for fresh talks. Unfortunately it means we’re going to get absolutely d*cked with the fee if we do go back in, but that’s our own fault.
Apart from a center back I would love to see Salah, Naby Keita and Aubamayang. All three are obtainable if the owners are serious about competing next season. If not then I guess Klopp has been tasked with finding the next Aubamayang, Lewandowski etc… given his record at developing top class strikers. If that’s the case it means we’re probably not going to see much silverware in the immediate future, given that the teams around us are actually buying ready made quality and are already ahead in terms of squad depth.
