WHEN we go behind you’re thinking same old story. When we go ahead you’re thinking we can keep scoring. When we concede late to drop more precious points against lesser opposition you’re thinking what’s the point.
Simon Mignolet: 6
Let down for both goals. Distribution too slow again at times, though.
Nathaniel Clyne: 6
Looking better going forward recently. Unlucky with his shot that hit the bar.
Dejan Lovren: 6
Town forever if he scored that overhead kick.
Ragnar Klavan: 6
Couldn’t tell you who was at fault for their second but it was all too easy.
James Milner: 6
Good outlet for us cutting in off the left but couldn’t get much to go tonight.
Lucas Leiva: 7
A proper leader on the field, always in the ref’s ear and picking up his team-mates when they’re down.
The way he ran over to Gini Wijnaldum after the mistake and then again after he set-up the second goal was boss.
Stay forever pls.
Emre Can: 5.5
Looked worse/more erratic once again tonight.
Georginio Wijnaldum: 8
Paul Cope wrote a piece on bravery the other day and how players that display it keep going despite a setback.
Looked gutted after making his mistake but did everything he could to try and make up for it. That’s bravery. Well in, Gini.
Roberto Firmino: 6
Best moments came centrally which says a lot.
Philippe Coutinho: 7
No clue why he goes off but can’t help feeling it might have cost us another big chance in the game.
Divock Origi: 6
Frustrating at times. Looked like a player trying and failing to mix it with two Championship grocks.
SUBS
Joel Matip: 6
Not his fault he comes on. Not sure he did anything wrong either.
Lee Mason: Absolutely fucking last

Can we have Andy Heaton back please
All on the manager, this.
Flapped it and brought on Matip for no reason.
Seriously, did you actually see the game fella? I think you should have another look and re-score.
Mate dunno what game you were watching but Origi was immense – his holdup play, touches, and turns were all on point today, not to mention scoring what should have been the winner. 6 is far too harsh. Wijnaldum does not deserve an 8, not when you make a mistake like that; without the terrible backpass we win even with King’s late goal. He’s a 5 without the assist, bump it up to 6 for the assist and as you mentioned, his courage and determination to carry on and impact the game after his mistake.
At what point do we start winning these games? Does Klopp even know why we keep losing? He looked positively perplexed after they scored, as if he doesn’t understand why this keeps happening. To be fair, I don’t understand why this keeps happening.
Up the gritty Reds, still all the points to fight for!
Just when you think we might put some daylight between us & Utd / Arsenal we do that. It only took 5 mins of pressure from Bournemouth and we shit ourselves at the back. They did nothing else all game. Surely Sturridge for Coutinho was the right call, we’re at home against Bournemouth FFS, we make it 3-1 and it’s all over. Looking at our next fixtures, Mane out, no Lallana, going to be touch & go for top 4
These ratings are funny. Origi 6? Banter. Emre was decent for a player on 1 leg. Migs needs to learn to save. Firmino was 2/10 offered nothing apart from an asssit which is another stat to cover up shit performances for months.
Spot on with Lucas rating. Was Klopp trying to see out the game with matip sub? Maybe 10-15 mins too early for me. Wouldve liked to see Woodburn or Trent AA get a run and keep bournemouth pegged in their own half a bit. Was hoping to see studge but klopp must have his reasons. Also assuming there are legit reasons for dragging Coutinho on 65 every match – can someone ask him though so i dont get rage everytime it happens?!! Maybe Melissa Reddy has some insights on this one
Agree mostly with your ratings Josh, except you didn’t rate Klopp.
Gini for me does not get an 8, more like a 6. He fucked up early on and the 6 is for making up for it with that pass to Origi.
I thought Origi played well, and so did Firmino, not their best, but neither did the rest of the team. Same pathetic approach out of the blocks against the bottom ale-house teams.
Btw, I hope Lucas leaves. I don’t share the same sentimental feelings as you or any fan has towards this guy. He’s not the answer to sustained, repeat success, he just happens to be around.
There was always a mistake in him, Klavan, Lovren and so the three stooges strike again. I felt bad for Matip.
Since you didn’t rate Klopp, I will rate him a 5/10. I am not sold on Klopp as a tactician as yet. His substitutions are sometimes useless, and often makes no sense.
Klopp knew Bournemouth’s tactics from the last game, he also knew what happens when Mane is absent, and he knew Liverpool’s defense has and always will be shit if the right players are not brought in to do the job.
Taking off Coutinho and going to a what 3-5-2 against BFC who lacked central strikers was puzzling to say the least. Also I don’t get why he forgets he has three subs that he can make in the EPL. Sturridge looks good running on the sidelines. So that must be some kind of psychological tactic to scare Bournemouth or something. Btw, does the Bundesliga only have a two sub limit?
Reality is we dropped two points for Klopp’s pathetic impression of Tony Pulis with the “ugly” football. Luckily PlastiCity lost today, though Arsenal looked the team against the ale-house team. Lose the top 4 spot and expect more dross bring bought and similar or worse ratings this time, next year.
So over to Stoke then.
Up the Reds!
Origi is getting back to his best…And the boy will lead the line for us in the long run.
We have not had a chance to experiment Origi and Mane in the same starting 11 yet( not much). The attacking speed would be deadly. I don’t mind leaving Bobby out for Mane – Origi combination with coutinho, supported by Lallana, Gini and Hendo in midfield.
Keep believing
Hi Josh, yes you may be right about Origi and Mane that they will come good when in form, but that I fear is for next season with Mane out.
It is just irritating to see Klopp not having some kind of answer to shutting up the shop when needed, especially after Origi played well and scored.
We’re in that crucial stage of the season where points matter big time. So fucking about with subs or tactics from my perspective seems to have allowed the team to lose momentum.
Klopp needs to learn the KISS method – Keep It Simple Stupid.
If we have no CL football next season then it doesn’t matter who Klopp earmarks as he still needs to lure/buy players that will hit the ground running to match what Klopp envisions.
Anyways (in hindsight) how would you have handled the game at 2-1?
Hi Sash. First of all, I must disclose that I am a big Klopp fan and truly believe that he will be able to deliver us the long awaited promised land. (Who else is left in the list of who’s who of football manager list, if Klopp can’t do that at this moment in time?)
When the substitution was made at 2-1, and our best player was taken off, and a defender was brought in, I was quite surprised to say the least. Because that’s not Klopp style to “close shop” and defend at home (or even away) against strongest teams, so definitely not against the pub team. He would always set up our team to continue to attack and score more.
But then again, I was not aware that Phil was not well and vomited at half time and that Phil sent a signal to the bench to replace.
Now, who else was on the bench, ready to take on from Phil last night? No one. Sturridge was there obviously, but he was jot fit enough to last 30 minutes and potentially risk missing out on the next 8 matches?
Therefore, I believe Klopp made the right call to bring in Matip and try to calm the back line. It did not work out obviously. (But we are in a luxury position of posting this hours after the match and saying –“should have done that” :))
On various occasion before, we were crying out that Klopp didn’t close shop and defend whole leading by a goal. Well, he did for the first time possibly due to the limited bench strength last night.
The plan was excellent, in my humble opinion. But the execution was not good enough when we gave away the ball cheaply to the pub team during the last ten minutes of the match.
Well…We go again!!! Cheers
Probably a bit hyperbolic there referring to them as a pub side.
They’ve taken 4 points from us this season.
Josh what about TAA or Woodburn? I get the the tactic to close shop but it seemed too early, not hindsight here. Anyways the chance came and went and we dropped points. Arsenal have games in hand and United look odds on to take the Europa unless they fail spectacularly. City is not done yet.
My past fears of bottling it was what came up after their second goal went in. Klopp would’ve looked like a genius if we won but we didn’t and so he and we know it.
Just hope we don’t bottle the next game. CL is going to be crucial since the academy ban news, more than ever.
Surely a half- fit Gomez is better than Klavan.
So dispiriting that yet another team scores against us with its only shots on target.
We really seem to struggle with this two games in a week thing. Stoke on Saturday with a day’s extra rest.
The sky’s gone black.
Oh, it’s just the night time.
A game like this show us (and Klopp) more about who would be around in the squad next season.
For example, Mig, although two goals may not be his direct fault, two goals from two shots was nit just good enough. He was playing reasonably well the whole season. But a game like today just show that the keeper is just not good enough to give confidence to the players ahead of him.
Klavan : gomez would be ahead of him surely. And Sakho (if he still has any chance here) can’t be as bad as this.
(Gini made the terrible pass. But he tried to atone for his mistake and he really did. I love him more for that character shown)…
For example, Mig, although two goals may not be his direct fault, two goals from two shots was nit just good enough.
that makes no sense at all…
@Ron Ely having watched him for the u23s the problem is not that a half fit Gomez isnt better than Klavan (and he isnt) the worry is he is struggling at u23 level.
Spot on mate. He’s really struggling there. Not sure why.
Origi was great i thought, super touch at times. Not sure we went from being in control, to making a sub and allowing them to have the ball, to then conceding and nearly scoring twice. Just finish them off ffs. Not a great situation if klopp needs to take Coutinho off, looks at it and thinks “if we carry on going toe to toe, we might concede, so I’ll bring on a centre half” Just smash em. We have let arsenal back in there, absolutely ridiculous.
The substitution was a disaster. What was Klopp thinking!
Mignolet set the tone for their first goal with that unnecessary early dribbling and the nervousness just spread till they stuck it in our net.
Would rate Origi higher for this and drop Gini down one point. Thought Can had a decent game. Certainly not a 5.5 performance.
Right, it wasn’t the random errant back pass (one of quite a few) by Emre Can, it was Mignolet with the (successful) dribble and pass. Sure it was.
Klopp has just lost us two points in my opinion, I know phill had to come off, but we were so on top… brining Trent or studge on we kill the game!!!!3 at the back looked unrehearsed and “let’s bring Joel on and just wing this to look like we know how to shut this out” just looked like we would always concede. Disappointed is an understatement after the weekend.
I am pretty sure an argument on here was that Klopp has cost us points by not trying to close out games – Bournemouth away was an example. Now he does and that’s shite too….
Just my opinion mate. don’t get me wrong I love klopp, just thought it was too early for that defensive switch especially as we could have killed them off with that momentum. Frustrating 2 points dropped.
Spot on KM1806. Same point in my comment above. Cheers
Klopp has been watching some US NFL b/c he decided to go with what’s called a prevent defense over here. That is a strategery that usually prevents the team in the lead from winning. From minute 32 until 84 (per Opta) Bournemouth had ZERO shots and (obliviously) zero shots on target. Then, 4 shots with that one goal on target.
Please, Jürgen, don’t do. that ever again. Thanks.
This stage of the season it’s about the points, the game’s left to play and the gap. In this round of two games, tonight and last Saturday, despite tonight’s frustrations, Liverpool are two points better off than Man U, three better off than City and got same number of points as Arsenal.
I went the game tonight, it was hard to swallow, but the players didn’t play that badly. Some of the comments on here are harsh and undeserved.
In the final analysis, Liverpool consolidated third spot. Let’s move on – Stoke City on Saturday, and it’s all about that gap!
We’ve dropped 15 points from winning positions so far this season.
Just saying.
Technically we gained 1 point from a losing position. Every cloud…
You’re right and I’m wrong.
13 points it is.
Actually I’m not haha, seeing as we actually were in the lead.
Had a mad brain fart there.
Every one on here complaining about Coutinho, he was hobbling from his goal on, and grimacing nearly every time he was on screen, then went straight in for treatment – get a grip. Was Matip the right answer to put on? No. Surely Sturridge needs a game to up his transfer fee. Big Divock was immense. We should have scalped these tosses, instead, we’ve snatched a loss from the jaws of victory. Make no mistake, a draw at home against a relegation side has to be counted as a loss.
We’re shite without Sadio aren’t we? Especially when Bobby moves out wide. It doesn’t have to be like this. We don’t have to play 4-3-3 when Sadio’s out. Really, really frustrating. From the moment their goal went in, I knew we wouldn’t win. Same old.
kalvan, there your problem, just look how many games are down to him,but he is 4 choice, just got to plod on,we will get there,by the way,the little fella was sick, thats why he went of, the manage make the choice, wrong but look at the bench, have faith, cos i have.
Coutinho had vomited during half-time, felt better, came back on the field for the 2nd half, then signaled to be subbed off. Nothing at all wrong with switching to 3 at the back (Jamie Carragher calling it ‘five at the back’ doesn’t make it so).
We deserved to win that game. ‘Arguing’ backwards from the (disappointing and frustrating) result is not good analysis.
Too much rotation going on in CM does nothing to help the rear guard. A spine is called thus for a reason and ours is more like a snake’s. When 2-1 up go 4-2-1-3 with the 2 just sitting in. FFS Simples
Didn’t read quite right that. Meant to say we’re too fluid in midfield like a half set jelly.
Save the fluidity for the final 1/3
