Andy Heaton is joined for a rather heated Cup Of Tea by Tony Evans for a chat about Liverpool’s draw with Chelsea, where the club are in a wider sense and where they can improve.
Cup Of Tea: Tony Evans

Let me guess – he slags off the club, owners and the manager?
Constructive criticism from a man that was around when LFC was the best run club in the country when John Smith was chairman, a man Liverpool have never got anywhere near replacing or even recognising the role he undertook.
Klopp papers over most of the FSG cracks. Hopefully he will be allowed to bring in the players he wants but already it feels like we have missed out on Pulisic for the sake of a couple of mil last summer.
Recruitment under FSG has been shambolic and disorganised, the moment Suarez left a new 100k a week should have been given to Sterling and 20 Mil not spent on Markovic
LFC under Klopp are going in the right direction but the squad still needs 4 or 5 first team players without selling anyone.
Klopp has got more out of this squad than any manager has a right to, but that does not mean that everyone can start patting themselves on the back.
People may not like the views of Tony Evans but he is from an era that knows what a winning mentality looks like and recognises where LFC are currently short, we have little pace and width, Firminho is not a natural striker, he is not bagging in 30 goals a season like Rush, Fowler or Torres, he is still a good player and with Coutinho, Mane and Lallana he has ripped teams apart, but you cannot expect that to happen for 50-60 games a season. Klopp has done well, very well, but it is only the beginning, we have not won anything since 2012 and before that 2006. One trophy since Hicks and Gillett arrived and FSG took over. Everyone should be optimistic but recognise there is a long way to go.
Evans says that Europa league final last season was as bad as anything Rodgers served up – we wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near that final under Rodgers
I do agree with the fact that there are school teams who are more gnarly than us.
Evans is unsure about Firmino. That show that his judgement is suspect.
Cup of tea!? I need a bottle of whiskey after listening to that miserable f##ker
Imagine going the game with him. Fuck me everytime I hear him he’s got fukall positive to say understand it’s part of his job but never has anything good to say. Like sitting next to me dad at the match
That’s a half hour I’ll never get back. Babble, stuff and nonsense.
If we won the treble every year for the next 10 years, Tony Evans would still be fucking moaning.
Tony Evans a legend in his own mind. Here’s a prediciton Klopp will win us the title before Tony Evans says anything worth hearing.
Who booked this bellend? Awful ‘pundit’.
Fuck me, he talks some shit.
I really respect Tony as a journalist, but he just sucks the joy out everything to do with LFC. F*ck me! We’re supposed be enjoying ourselves here.
Very hard listening TBH. Tony Evans needs to stop sucking lemons and make some lemonade. Would’ve liked Andy Heaton to call him out even more, Tony contradicted himself over and over again.
football isn’t meant to be fun and enjoyable it’s meant to be angry and depressing just like Tony Evans
Diddum’s. Someone comes on with a different opinion to all the unrealistically & undeservedly positive and optimistic happy clappers and they all slag him off.
Its excellent that TAW finally gave air to someone who just doesn’t agree with everything being boss, with the owners being boss, and it being inevitable number 19 is dues any moment now. But people can’t handle any opinions different to theirs, especially ones that threaten their delusions concerning the current state of our great club.
If everyone had the same mentality as Tony Evans then maybe as a fanbase we wouldn’t accept the failure we have been served up under H&G & FSG. We might strive for more and force FSG to match our ambitions and spend the requisite money for a team to become champions.
They have been almost perfect owners of the pitch on the financial/business side and we will always be grateful for them saving us BUT eventually, that isn’t enough anymore. They have to show more ambition. They have to compete financially, not with City & Utd but Arsenal & CFC who have been more moderate spenders the last few years than the Manchesters.
Tony is absolutely spot on to want, and demand, more from them as LFC owners and all Reds should be the same. Its just a shame some people can’t abide differing opinions and want him not to be given a platform in future.
LFC is nowhere near as good as some like to think. A lot of work needs to be done if were to see us bag number 19 in my lifetime, and that work starts with FSG changing strategies and making us more competitive in terms of fighting for the title.
Spot on. The result against Hull at the weekend can’t emphasise this enough, unfortunately.
If everyone had the same mentality as Tony Evans, the national suicide rate would be off the scale.
He should not be given a platform because he rambles and constantly contradicts himself. Healthy criticism is constructive, but this sort of aggressive negativity about FSG and everything connected to them is not.
I should have spent the 30 minutes watching Eastenders – that would have been slightly less depressing.
Or even “Constructive criticism is healthy…” !!
Great show! A lot of good points made by Tony on the clubs structure and team. Hopefully recruitment will be better this summer.
Fuck me, think I’d rather set fire to me own arse than listen to that again.
Calculated…rather than constructive, I’d say…divisive for sure though… For a moment there is thought I was listing to a talk sport pundit who fuel and generate discussion through spouting enough negatives, mixed with facts to cause comment and debate…I.E…they get a rise from people who take the bate…so next tony presents his so called opinion of constructive criticism ..let the loud blah blah brash analysis, just drift off into the airways…maybe a talk sport listener can pick up on it..
