THE match ratings from Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Simon Mignolet: 10
What a performance, three moments when you think ‘goal’ and he gets something in the way.
The stop from Henrikh Mkhitaryan was especially good.
Best 90 minutes of his Liverpool career.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 9
Echoes of Rob Jones, lashed in at the deepest of deep ends and settled down after a nervy first 20.
Made up for the lad. Is right, Trent.
Dejan Lovren: 8
One suicide ball aside, steady as a rock, didn’t get roughed up or let United elbows get under his skin.
Ragnar Klavan: 8
Fearing the worst after Southampton last week but a strong, positive performance. Couple of great interceptions and a cool head.
James Milner: 8
Standard seven with a bonus point for the penalty.
Jordan Henderson: 8.5
Made ALL the difference. Makes everything tick, my mate Maga is strangling me for a nine but I’m not wilting, here’s Maga…
Georginio Wijnaldum: 8
Could have had a hat-trick, but the absolute consummate performance. Can clearly see what his job is on days like today. Is right, The Tank.
Emre Can: 7
Massive improvement from last week, nearly vaulted the barriers when he gave the ball away on 86 right outside the area.
Adam Lallana: 7
Adam, Adam Lallana, he gets the ball he’s top banana.
Roberto Firmino: 7
Quiet until his mate came on, then looked alive. That said, a permanent nuisance.
Divock Origi: 6.5
Quiet. Seems to have hit a bad patch of form, but always looks like he could bag one at any second, on the left cutting in which is no easy ask.
SUBS
Philippe Coutinho: 8
Instantly brought everything back to life. Could and should have bagged within 60 seconds of coming on.
Mick Clarke: 10
In his own words…

Can’t argue. Mig’s only fault was that fucking roll towards the end. Some great saves though. Mark the manager down for not giving Sturridge a run.
Thought Origi was poor today, very poor.
I’ll give the lad his due, he is still young and wet behind the ears…BUT he needs to use that frame more. He’s more built than most of us give him credit for. At the risk of sounding like a know it all its been a feature of his game that needs major improvement for me and I’ve thought it for a while now.
I only first got on to it Sunderland at home then Bournemouth away. Like I said he’s filled out more since he arrived and put a nice bit of muscle on. Too many times that ball goes up to him and he’s either out muscled or has a shocking first touch, they’re not good attributes if you want to play on the break. Fair enough he worked his socks off but he needs to realise his potential.
Sickener that though. I thought a draw was fair and I’ve have taken it beforehand, who wouldn’t have? But the manner of it makes it galling, once we got to 80 I thought we’d seen it out. Made up to see after the equaliser the only team who looked like they’d win was us, good positive attitude afterwards wereas in the past we’d have melted.
Andy Heaton 9 Better than usual on a nervy day; never thought I’d see double digits for the Migs but he was large. TAA, what a lad, fit right in.
As an aside, a -5 for Herrera the filthy shit. FSM, I hate that fuck.
Totally agree; Herrera’s a horrible little fucker.
You take that when considered in context. We’ve gone there under-strength and forced them to show their true alehouse colours tonight. Mignolet was absolutely first-rate. Alexander-Arnold had it rough for the first twenty or so minutes but that is a seriously mature player.
It didn’t all go perfectly today but our under-strength, somewhat out of form lads managed to reduced that lot to alehouse Sunday league football and leave them delighted with a point.
Jesus, if Lovren can’t get above an 8 for that level of performance he never will. He was peerless. The “suicide ball” was underhit, but it was Mignolet’s still all the way if he hadn’t taken an age to come forward.
Never thought I would say this after shaky last season by Mig. But anyway….
Mig…You have been outstanding in all the matches you have played this season. And today is the best performance in Liverpool shirt. Well done. Your past “sins” have been forgiven, son. Now go on and win the title for all of us with such points winning performances every week.
Overall god performance throughout agree with most of it. Wij the Tank, fair enough. Couple of chances he might have done better with and one where a roll to Phil might have created a chance which he didn’t spot. Think he was guilty of all-watching for their goal. Should have been closer to Valencia. Firmino should have netted.
Migs was good. Finally a performance where the keeper actually save shots he should be saving. But not a 10. He should have ripped the ball from the forehead of that Swedish prick.
(no offence to any swedes)
Ha ha ha.
none taken!
I agree with the comment above about Herrera. There’s nothing wrong with gnarly players but that lad is a spiteful, nasty coward. His shirt-pulling on Firmino and subsequent reaction to being pushed over summed him up as a character. Coward. I wouldn’t have minded Firmino taking a ban for knocking Herrera’s teeth out.
Offside goal, again..josey resorts to long ball footy against us,again .. herera a little shit, again..
Rooney goes to bed with a metal bucket on his head .Head in a bucket, he keeps his head in a bucket.
The title won’t be going to mancland this season.
Great battling display from the men of Liverpool.Bossed midfield when the ball wasn’t whizzing 20 feet over their heads. Firmino ran his guts out closing down. We’d have twatted them with Mane in the team.
Head in a bucket bit is quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever read.
Just watched that goal again. He had no chance, Swedish prick.
Agree with ratings, except where’s Klopp’s? I think sending Sturridge in during the last 15 minutes would have made a difference in terms of those wasted chances by Gini. I mean how do players forget to do the basics in front of goal?
Mignolet gets 11 – 1 for that daft gift back to the United. Luckily United were equally daft at not getting anything from it.
Firmino gets another +2 for shoving that idiot Herrera to the ground. Imagine what Souness would have done??!
Important point made is that we did not lose the game to United. The mentality would have shifted. Great job team for standing ground and not yielding. Very proud of the team and away fans!
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the players return and picking up where we left off.
Up the fighting Reds!!!
At a certain point in the match, I actually thought “Heaton better give Migs a 10.” And then imagined a fume. The Kop should get right behind that lad. Even the roll at the end mentioned by Paul was the right thing to do.
I literally made a low growl at Emre Can on the 86th. I’d like to see him odd man out:
Coutinho-Firmino-Sturridge
Wijnaldum-Hendo-Lallana
Let that morph into a diamond shape. I just think we lose more than we gain with Can in the side, at least right now. But I loves me a Wijnaldum.
Can’t say how relieved I am to know that Clyne doesn’t have to play every minute of every game. Well done, Trent.
Agreed with these, the boys have done well.
Michael Oliver had a good game imho… He missed the malice in Shrek’s maiming of Milner but that aside he was on point with a lot of the usual garbage diving and shrieking we get from the OT players / fans and didn’t get fooled.
Most teams have injuries but JUST IMAGINE if Mane, Matip, Clyne and PhilCo were in and fully fit for that game.
We win it all day all night and all week.
Oliver is a shithouse. Herrera was fouling the entire game and he did nowt, same with Pogba on Hendo in front of him, yet he books Gini and not Shrek for stamping down on Milner. He’s a coward and that linesman is a fucking joke.
And Lovren winning the ball…not even a foul never mind a booking.
Migs deserves all his praise today, that save from Ibra on the free kick was brilliant – despite the fact that Oliver can get to f–k for giving the foul that led to the preceding corner, oh, and missing the rugby tackle by Pogba on Henderson.
What amazed me in that match was the amount of touches Mignolet had with his feet and not once did I feel like I was going to have a heart attack. His body language is much more convincing, like he’s in control. We always knew he could stop shots but that last piece of the puzzle, his presence around the box, has finally fallen into place. He deserves a ten for going away and actually sorting out the weak areas of his game. It’s hard on Karius but in the form there is no way Mignolet should be dropped again.
And what a difference Henderson makes. It’s not until he’s not in the team that you realise how important he is. He knits everything together and keeps the tempo upbeat (as well as running his backside off). If there are still people out there who say he’s not good enough to be in the team, well, keep them away from sharp implements, they’re a danger to themselves.
What I love about this one is the fact that this was their best. Them at home. Their full squad (Bailly aside), 1st team, full bench.
And it’s said they have the best squad in the league. And them at home. And they up for it on the back of 9 wins.
They up to put us back in our box because they are Man U and they won’t let us back onto our “fucking perch”.
However guys, this was Not our 1st team.
Not our full bench.
Not £500m spent plus a gun-for-hire egomaniac.
This was not our home.
We were not full strength by any means.
That’s not our best team, squad, nor performance.
But it was good enough. Think about that and what this means.
Now get this: This was their absolute best.
Not ours- THEIR absolute best.
That’s it.
That’s Man U today at their best!!
And on the back of 9 game winning run remember.
They were up for it.
And they at home.
They cried with relief into their prawn sandwiches I’d say on equalising.
That’s their best against not our best.
That’s their finished product players against our work in progress.
That’s their best. But it’s not good enough. At home. Against not our best, but good enough.
That’s the beauty of this day and this game for me. That’s not even near our best and it’s more than enough for their absolute best.
Oh how the worm is turning everyone, YNWA.
Think your TAA rating is through some serious rowdy specs. He struggled for periods and was found out for his inexperience on at least two occasions. Tht being aid, I was concerned about him being selected and he want cowed
Emre Can erases and outplays Paul Pogba = 7
Gini Wij misses clear cut chances resulting in us dropping points (for like the 3rd or 4th time this year) = 8
I really need to stop reading match ratings, it makes me Mad On The Internet which is as Klopp would say, “not in a good way.”
