Loris Karius: 6
Deck chair day for the gorgeous German.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 7
Played as though it was his 100th start. Really like him, natural footballer, really hope he develops because he’s potentially very, very good.
Joe Gomez: 7
Looks like a footballer, doesn’t he? Got turned once in the second half, but other than that looked calm and assured. Didn’t look flustered against a grock of a centre forward.
Lucas Leiva: 6
Hard to rate. Did what he was asked, wasn’t put under any great pressure. Thought he was going to score a worldie at the death.
Alberto Moreno: 6
Looked as likely as anyone to be the one to break through, people forget he’s actually a pretty good footballer because he’s criticised for his deficiencies so much. Has a lovely first touch and carries possession as well as anyone.
Emre Can: 6
Has a lovely weight of pass, just wish he was a yard quicker in his execution.
Kevin Stewart: 6
Bit pedestrian, but decent enough for his first run out in a while. Needs to start imposing himself a bit more.
Ovie Ejaria: 6
Didn’t disgrace himself at all and will benefit from the experience, just didn’t really get going either.
Sheyi Ojo: 7
Bright spark for The Reds, seems to have bulked up a little since the summer. Unlucky a few times with the break of the ball, deserved to get a full 90 under his belt.
Ben Woodburn: 7
Love how he stands a man up and then tries to beat them with skill, certainly doesn’t want for confidence and didn’t seemed intimidated in the slightest.
Divock Origi: 6
Tough afternoon for the Belgian, had 18 defenders man marking him and seemed a bit off his game. Needs to be on it for things to work, can’t really play at less than anything other than 100 per cent.
SUBS
Daniel Sturridge: 7
Came on to try and bag a winner and came closer than anyone else in a red shirt. Felt like, had he got more minutes, he’d have scored. Touch and vision a class apart.
Roberto Firmino: 6
Not really enough time to make an impact and afforded very little space to make a difference, strangled by Plymouth’s 28 men behind the ball strategy.
Adam Lallana: 6
As per Firmino.

Luckily for me, after the first half I put the volume down and started watching while listening to Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. Forgot what a good album that is.
Agree with Andy on just about everything from what I could tell. Sturridge nearly had me turn off the music, but again this was my lucky day. Somehow missed Firmino’s introduction, but seemed too late when I finally noticed. Lucas would have provided a laugh that would have lasted decades if that had gone in.
To be honest, don’t get the hype around Oje.
Looks far too casual and dwells on the ball way too long. Would have hooked him for Sturridge rather than Can.
Dont think either him or Ejaria will make it with us.
Woburn, on the other hand, will be sensational.
Woodburn.
And Moreno is fucking shite. His corners were diabolical.
Wouldn’t have given anyone more than 6,Origi and Can were awful again,2 players who think they are better than they actually are.
Wouldn’t have gave many more than a 5-6 myself. Apart from Karius because he couldn’t do any more than absolutely nothing, Woodburn was a bright spark at times I thought in the first half, looked the most likely to make a breakthrough.
Everyone else, apart from the centre half’s who aren’t responsible for our attacking threat, weren’t very good. Not saying they were all very poor, although I thought Can and Stewart were, they just weren’t very good today.
We would certainly benefit from someone who can take a set piece. Sturridge should have taken the last two high on the right – could probably have curled it in from there.
Pretty much agree with the ratings though I thought Ojo and TTA tailed off at the end, putting in a bunch of poor crosses rather than passing to the more senior players by then on the field. EKS should should get an extra point for taking the ball of that guy’s toe the one time they looked dangerous.
Great experience for the kids. That’ll stand them in good stead for when they’re our first XI in a few years time. Many a prem team will park the bus like that. Fancy the same team to put us into R4 in the replay. More pressure on Plymouth to attack us. The treble is still on!
Moreno’s improved but you just can’t be that one-footed in a Klopp team. He’s totally stymied when there are no crossing options: far too predictable.
As for the rest, they can take credit from a good run out. Shame they couldn’t seal the deal but it was the youngest team ever.
Can and Stewart poor. I agree that he shouldn’t have been risked but it is a shame for the likes of Ojo and Woodburn that they didn’t have a Lallana in midfield providing a bit more creative spark for them. Woodburn definitely looks like he has something, and Trent, although he didn’t have a standout moment, looked very assured which bodes well. i’d love to see him in a Prem game and would have no concerns about him standing in for a few games if Clyne gets injured. Nice to Gomez back and looking as assured as he has done previously (albeit against nothing).
Definitely want to see pretty much the same lineup in the replay.
I don’t get what Jurgen sees in Stewart. Apart from a good tackle to stop a break away he didn’t seem to offer anything much, as in most matches he plays. Not much if any pace, no invention to speak of playing the safe pass endlessly, doesn’t really protect the defence as he lacks anticipation and slows play down. Harsh, but that’s how I see him. Jurgen knows more about footie than me but I am yet to be convinced that Stewart has the ability to hold a place down in the side. If that’s the case he’s be better off at 23 finding a club that will give more than the odd game.
