Gareth Roberts hosts Steve Graves, John Gibbons, Neil Atkinson, Kevin Walsh and Paul Senior for the latest edition of Wildcards.
On the agenda this week:
– Daniel Sturridge’s career
– Player Liverpool have never replaced
– Best Footy Bastard
– Fake News
My local ALeague team SydneyFC are playing Tim Cahill’s Melbourne City in the FFA Cup (Australian FA CUP) final tonight. Loved the timely anti Timmy talk.
Steve Graves could have been talking about James Milner, could he not? Experienced pro, former league title winner, doing the right things on and off the pitch….
The correct answer is, of course, Graeme Souness*, a player able to bend whole seasons to his will from the base of midfield. He was Xabi and Mascherano, McMahon and Whelan with a fiercer will to win than any of them.
* I know, I know. I’m an arlarse hipster.
Though to be fair, Neil nailed it later!
Good show, I particularly enjoyed Neil’s riff on Souness & his arguments re post-truth: it’s as old as the hills, it’s just faster now. That’s the digital revolution for you. But to cite memes from Jeremy Corbyn supporters whilst eliding over Iraq is too, too pitiful. There’s a consensus amongst most reasonable people that Iraq ‘poisoned the well’, indeed it was arguably responsible for Corbyn’s rise. New Labour supporters would do well to reflect on that instead of indulging in displacement activities.
