ODDS on 0-0 probably longer than Brexit and Donald Trump, Southampton will be made up with that performance and rightly so. Liverpool didn’t do too badly at all, but didn’t have enough to get the win.
Loris Karius: 6
Everybody is looking for the slightest thing to judge him on, only really had one thing to do — a cross which he dealt with by punching over bodies. Other than that, kicking was fine. Looking more assured.
Nathaniel Clyne: 6
More of the same apart from missing a crucial header from Dan Sturridge’s cross. Should have done better, there.
Joel Matip: 7
Solid. Not loads to deal with as Southampton didn’t particularly show loads of ambition going forward.
Dejan Lovren: 7
Much better than he was in the league there last year. Kept his head and dealt with whatever came his way — which wasn’t loads.
James Milner: 7
Gave genuine width out wide and was always an option when we went forward.
Jordan Henderson: 6
Loved the way he was literally dictating play first half. Telling lads where to play the ball.
Emre Can: 5
Think he still looks slightly off the pace. Had that chance with his left foot which he had more time than he seemed to realise.
Georginio Wijnaldum: 6
Good first half but faded as the game went on.
Philippe Coutinho: 6
Tough for him to play through a row of bodies like that. Touch looked a little off but considering it was touch-and-go whether he’d start, it’s maybe a bit much to expect fireworks.
Sadio Mane: 6
Final ball was a bit off. Had a good chance saved. Struggled to get into his stride often.
Roberto Firmino: 6
Great half, first half. Second half, quiet. Huge chance missed with the outside of his boot.
SUBS
Daniel Sturridge (on 78′): 7
Good when he came, for the second game in a row.
Divock Origi (90+1′): N/A
Mark Clattsy: 5
Come on, Mark. If you want to be more than a footnote in our title-winning season of 2016/17, you’ve got to do a bit more than that.

Sorry lads Klopp got this one wrong: 1) substituted 20 minutes to late in both cases. 2) played Cotinho way to deep
Says who?? What are your credentials?
Credentials? Knob.
@hyperbeat
To be honest, that was my feeling immediately after the game too. Mainly around your first point. Certainly Origi has got to be given more than 2-3 minutes of injury time?
That said, if the boys took their chances, I wouldn’t even questioned it.
@hyperbeat
It was a bit dissapointing that Klopp didn’t use the subs sooner….think we could have done with Sturridge coming on around the 65min mark.
Overall, I think we did enought to win, and had enough clear chances to take all 3 points. Sooooooo, even though it wasn’t a great performance, it was still pretty decent, and I’m sure we’ll come back firing properly next weekend. Up the ReDs.
@james – My credentials = my opinion Just like anyone else. No sure if it add to my credentials but: I have been supporting Liverpool for 41 years and counting and in all honesty I have been yelling quite a bit at my Telly over the past 25 years. We will be more than all right as long as Kloppo is stearing the ship and yesterday was maybe just one of them days. On another day we would have won the same game 3-0
